July 17, 2024
Editor's Notes:
Here are some
initial (not final) statistics, which show the Israeli
war crimes against humanity, during the current Israeli genocidal war on
Gaza Strip, based on the
By July 17, 2024,
the initial death toll of Palestinians who have been killed by the
Israeli genocidal war on
Gaza
Strip is
45,794+.
This includes the accounted for deaths (38,794), those who are still missing under the rubble (a corrected estimate, on April 18, 2024: 7,000+).
By July 12, 2024, the Israeli genocidal air strikes and bombardment destroyed more than 100 health hospitals and medical facilities, 609 mosques, 3 churches, more than 430,000 housing units, and the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful "Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul, unless for a soul, or for corruption in the land, it is as if he had killed humankind entirely" (The Holy Quran, Al-Ma-ida, 5: 32). "And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him, and has cursed him, and has prepared for him a great torment" (Al-Nisa, 4: 93). "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, (you do it) to yourselves" (Al-Isra, 17: 7). *** While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written human history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of Prophets David and Solomon , peace be upon them, and Solomon's son). After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD. By the Time Jesus, peace be upon him, started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD. So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents. No matter what the Zionists and their supporters do, they cannot change the will of God, Who promised the Holy Land to Abraham and his descendants, basically the Palestinian Muslims and Christians. No matter how much persecution and aggression the Zionists and their supporters inflict upon the Palestinian people, they will never be able to force them out of the Holy Land, which Allah, praise to Him, promised for them, and kept His promise ever since. This is a necessary brief background to understand the US-Backed Zionist Israeli continuous wars against the Arab nation generally, and the Palestinian people in particular, which included the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967, 1978, 1982, the brutal crushing of the two Uprisings (1987-1993 and 2000-2004), 2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, and the current genocidal war on Gaza (Since October 7, 2023), which has culminated a blockade of Gaza since 2007. In addition, the Israeli occupation and apartheid regime launched so many covert operations, raids, and air strikes on many Arab states since 1948. The following news stories are just examples, not a systematic record, of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis. More detailed news stories can be found at the following sources:http://english.wafa.ps/, https://english.palinfo.com/, https://imemc.org/, https://paltoday.ps/ar/ *** Editorial Notes about terms & names of people and places: 1. Names of people and places have been standardized to match standard Arabic grammatical rules. 2. Underlined letters and letters preceded by an apostrophe are references to Arabic letter sounds, which does not exist in the English alphabet. 3. The English letter i is equivalent to the Arabic short vowel known as kasra, as in Ibraheem and Qasim as well as in the English words sit and bit. So, it is incorrect to use it as a long vowel for such Arabic names as Jameel and Jibreel. 4. The English letter e is equivalent to the Arabi short vowel known as fat'ha, as in A'hmed and Mu'hammed. 5. It is more accurate to refer to the land-grabbing Israelis, who establish illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank, as illegal Israeli settlers, than referring to them as colonists. The term colony is a reference to a large entity or a country, such as American states before independence. It was also a reference to Egypt, and India, when they were British colonies. In addition, the term "colony" represents a positive nostalgic theme, in the minds of native speakers of English, particularly in America and Britain. 6. It is more accurate to use the verb "abduct" than the verb "detain," in reference to taking Palestinian citizens by force to prisons and interrogation centers, by Israeli occupation regime soldiers. This is because the presence of the Israeli occupation regime forces is illegal in the Palestinian territories, and they have no jurisdiction over the Palestinian people. Click here for more about using the apostrophe and the underlining of letters in the transliteration of Arabic names. *** *** Badran: Hamas to attend an inter-Palestinian meeting to be held in China Tuesday 16-July-2024 GAZA, (PIC) Senior 'Hamas official 'Husam Badran has said that his Movement has received an invitation from China to participate in a comprehensive national meeting to be held soon in Beijing and attended by different Palestinian factions, including the Fat'h Movement. In press remarks on Tuesday, Badran added that the meeting is slated to take place on July 21 and 22. “The Movement has dealt positively and responsibly with this invitation out of its keenness on achieving national unity worthy of our Palestinian people and commensurate with their sacrifices and heroism, especially in light of Al-Aqsa Flood battle,” Badran said. The Hamas official pointed out taht there are no previous arrangements for bilateral meetings on the sidelines of this national meeting in China. Regarding what could be tabled during the meeting, Badran said that there is a possibility to build on the outcome of the previous national meeting that was held in Beijing last April. *** Doctors Without Borders organization says hospitals in Gaza lack basic necessities of life GAZA, Wednesday, July 17 2024 (WAFA) – The Doctors Without Borders organization said that hospitals in the Gaza Strip lack the most basic basics, which will lead to the death of more citizens every second that the war continues. The organization said in a statement that for nine months, the Gaza Strip has witnessed almost continuous death and psychological trauma, and no place has been spared from bloodshed. The organization noted that medical teams in Gaza are exposed to unbearable pressure with every attack amid a depleted health system. It added, "Our teams are working throughout the Gaza Strip to provide basic and life-saving care for those injured in brutal Israeli attacks, and they are also forced to flee for their lives." The World Health Organization said in a report this month that the health sector in Gaza needs 80,000 liters of fuel per day, and that the last supplies that arrived in the Strip at the end of last month were between 195,000 and 200,000 liters. It confirmed that hospitals are facing a fuel shortage that threatens the interruption of vital services and the death of injured people due to the delay of ambulances. The organization also warned of the escalation of the medical services crisis in the Gaza Strip, especially in light of the Israeli evacuation orders in Gaza City, which hinder the treatment of the injured. It pointed out that out of 36 hospitals in Gaza, only 13 are partially operating, and there are a total of 11 field hospitals in the Strip, three of which were forced to temporarily stop, and four are partially operating. Y.S *** PGMO: 160 Palestinians journalists killed since Israel’s war on Gaza started Tuesday 16-July-2024 GAZA, (PIC) The Palestinian Government Media Office (PGMO) in Gaza has said that the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the war on the Gaza Strip started has climbed to 160 martyrs after journalist Mu'hammed Mishmish, director of Al-Aqsa Voice Radio’s programs, was killed in a new Israeli massacre in central Gaza. Journalist Mu'hammed Mishmish was among 23 citizens who were massacred in an Israeli genocidal strike on Al-Razi School in Al-Nusayrat on Tuesday. 73 others were also injured in the same attack. The Israeli genocidal attacks on Gaza have taken an unprecedented toll on Palestinian journalists since the war started following the cross-border operation that was launched by the 'Hamas armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, on October 7. *** Hamas describes Israel’s massacres in Gaza as blatant savagery, accuses the US of complicity Tuesday 16-July-2024 The 'Hamas Movement described the Israeli massacres in Gaza as blatant savagery and accused the US administration of complicity in the "genocide against our people.” 'Hamas said in a statement on Tuesday, “The deliberate bombing by Israeli occupation forces of displaced people at the UNRWA-run Al-Razi school in Al-Nusayrat refugee camp, the Al-Mawasi area, in western Khan Younus, which was declared as a safe zone, and the bombing of a gathering of people in Al-Shaikh Zayid area in northern Gaza, along with the ongoing brutal bombardment across the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of dozens, represent a savage Nazism that disgraces humanity.” “The fascist occupation (regime) continues its crime of genocide after feeling impunity from international accountability throughout its brutal aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip,” it added. The Movement said, “In the face of this level of criminality and savagery, the US administration led by President Biden bears full responsibility for this systematic killing of our people, due to its ongoing political and military support for the occupation and its Nazi army, and for obstructing international justice in pursuing Zionist war criminals.” At least 57 citizens were martyred, and dozens were wounded in four Israeli massacres carried out on Tuesday in northern Gaza, central Gaza, and Khan Yunis. *** UNRWA Commissioner-General: At least eight schools were hit in Gaza in the last 10 days NEW YORK, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) - UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, said at least eight schools were hit in the Gaza Strip in the last 10 days by the Israeli occupation, including six UNRWA schools. “An almost daily occurrence. At least eight schools hit in the last 10 days, including six UNRWA schools, said Lazarrini in a post on his official X account. “The war robbed the girls and boys in Gaza of their childhood and education. “Schools are not a target.” He stressed that the blatant and constant disregard of international humanitarian law continues unabated. “All rules of war have been broken in Gaza.“ “Losing our common humanity must not become the new norm,” he said. Lazzarini published a photo showing the destruction of one of UNRWA schools after being targeted by Israeli shelling. The school is overcrowded with internally displaced persons seeking refugee there. T.R. *** WSJ: Israel rained down eight tons of bombs on Al-Mawasi tent area of displaced Palestinians Wednesday 17-July-2024 GAZA, (PIC) The US newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” revealed that Israel rained down 8 tons of bombs on Al-Mawasi area, a few days ago. Huge deployment of firepower, after years of failed attempts to kill the 'Hamas military commander, Mu'hammed Dhaif, exacted a heavy civilian toll The paper said: “Israel had tried—and failed—to kill the 'Hamas top leader, Mu'hammed Dhaif, several times.” “So when intelligence emerged that he was hiding in a compound in southern Gaza, Israel struck with overwhelming force, hitting it with eight 2,000-pound bombs,” the paper added. The force of the blast from the precision-guided munitions reduced the target to a smoldering crater. Scores of Palestinians in the area around the compound—which was home to a market, a water source and a soup kitchen serving displaced civilians—were killed and hundreds wounded, health authorities said. On the other hand, a US think tank revealed that 52% of Americans want the Biden administration to halt weapons shipments to Israel until it stops its attacks on the Gaza Strip. “Fifty-two percent of Americans agree that the US government should halt weapons shipments to Israel until Israel stops its attacks on Gaza,” the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) said in a statement, citing a new YouGov poll it commissioned *** Israel holds 1,500 bodies of Palestinian martyrs in Sde Teiman Tuesday 16-July-2024 NAZARETH, (PIC) The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that the Israeli occupation army has been holding the bodies of 1,500 Palestinian martyrs in the Sde Teiman detention center in southern 1948 Occupied Palestine. The newspaper quoted on Tuesday an Israeli soldier who served in the Sde Teiman as saying that the bodies are held in refrigerators and classified by numbers, not by names. The soldier added, “The bodies were in bad condition, as some of them had signs of decomposition, others had limbs amputated, and some had recognizable faces, while others did not.” The newspaper estimates that the vast majority of the bodies of the unidentified martyrs are of the elite forces of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas Movement, or of the residents who crossed the border into the settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Haaretz quoted the Israeli occupation army as saying, “The Palestinian bodies have been transferred since that day to the Sde Teiman base, and any decision regarding the return of the bodies is up to the government.” Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, the Israeli occupation army has been detaining thousands of Palestinian citizens, including women and children. Only a small number of them was released, while the fate of thousands of detainees remains unknown. *** The Palestinian Football Association: Israel’s participation in the Copa América “Unethical” Wednesday 17-July-2024 RAMALLAH, (PIC) The Palestinian Football Association condemned the agreement between CONMEBOL (the South American Football Confederation) and the Israeli Football Association, which allows the Israeli football team to participate in the Copa América tournament. The Palestinian Association said, “The decision comes at a time when Gaza is witnessing acts of genocide, making the agreement morally unacceptable and indefensible internationally.” In a press statement on Wednesday, the Palestinian Association called on FIFA and the international community to take a stance against the violations committed against Palestinian athletes, who face deliberate targeting, while Israeli sports enjoy international recognition. The South American Confederation had signed an agreement with the Israeli Football Association in mid-April in the Paraguayan capital Asunción, which paves the way for the Israeli football team to participate in the tournament in the future, similar to the participation of teams from North and Latin America. The Palestinian Association affirmed in its statement the Palestinian sports’ commitment to the principles and laws of FIFA and the Olympic Charter, saying, “We seek justice, call for solidarity with Palestinian athletes, and urge FIFA to take a firm stance against these violations and stand with justice and humanity.” The Palestinian Football Association pointed out that it is awaiting FIFA’s decision on July 20, 2024, regarding holding the Israeli occupation state accountable for its practices against Palestinian athletes, expressing confidence that justice will prevail. The Copa América tournament is held every four years, and all ten CONMEBOL teams compete in it, led by Brazil and Argentina. The Argentine national team won the last edition of the tournament after defeating their Colombian counterpart in the final, in the early hours of Monday, in the United States. According to data published by the Palestinian Sports Media Union, the genocide war waged by Israel on Gaza since October 7 has resulted in the martyrdom of more than 300 athletes of various sports, most of them children affiliated with sports academies. *** *** Killing and Injuring of Palestinians in Ghazza (Gaza) by Israeli Occupation Regime Forces*** On July 17, 2024, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qidra, the Spokesperson of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli genocidal air strikes and bombardment on Gaza Strip resulted in 4 main massacres, in which 81 Palestinian civilians were killed, and the 198 others were injured, in the past 24 hours. This increased the accounted for death toll in Gaza Strip to 38,794 and the injuries to 89,364, since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on October 7, 2023. *** Israeli occupation regime forces commit four massacres in Gaza over the past 24 hours GAZA, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) - The Israeli occupation army committed four massacres against families in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, resulting in the killing of 81 civilians and the injury of 198 others, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, in Gaza. The number of people killed since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7th, 2023, has surged to 38,794. Some 89,364 others, the majority of whom are children and women, have been wounded. Thousands of victims are still trapped under the rubble or scattered on the roads, as ambulance and civil defense teams are facing difficulties in reaching them due to the continued Israeli attacks, the massive amount of debris and the shortage of fuel and heavy equipment. Casualty data in Gaza are incomplete due to the intensive Israeli aggression, the repeated and complete interruption of communication and internet services, lack of fuel and devastated infrastructure, which render it difficult to document figures. T.R. *** Five civilians killed and others injured in Israeli airstrikes on Al-Nusayrat refugee camp, Rafah city GAZA, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Five civilians were killed and others were injured in an Israeli genocidal airstrike on Al-Nusayrat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip and the city of Rafa'h. In a related context, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that the occupation targeted at least eight schools during the last ten days, including six belonging to the agency. By July 16, 2024, the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza since October last year has so far resulted in 38,713 documented Palestinian fatalities, with an additional 89,166 others injured. Thousands more are feared trapped under the rubble and in streets, inaccessible to rescue and ambulance crews. Y.S. *** Nine civilians killed and others injured in Israeli genocidal airstrikes on Al-Nusayrat refugee camp GAZA, Wednesday, July 17 2024 (WAFA) – Dozens of civilians today were killed and others injured in Israel genocidal airstrikes on different areas in the Gaza Strip. In Al-Nusayrat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, seven civilians were killed and others were injured as a result of the occupation’s bombing of a house in the vicinity of the Sunna Mosque south of Al-Nusayrat refugee camp. *** Over 9,700 people detained by the Israeli occupation forces since start of Israeli genocidal war on Gaza RAMALLAH, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) – The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Authority and the Palestine Prisoners Society ( PPS) said that the Israeli occupation army has detained more than 9,700 people since the start of the aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7. PPS and the Commission said in a joint statement that this toll includes those who were arrested from homes, through military checkpoints, those who were forced to surrender themselves under pressure, and those who were held as hostages. The statement pointed out that the detentions are accompanied by widespread abuse, beatings, and threats against detainees and their families, in addition to sabotage and destruction of citizens’ homes. The Commission and PPS stated that the occupation detained at least 15 people from the West Bank, including three women, a child, and former detainees, from yesterday evening until this morning. Y.S. *** IOFs storm West Bank areas, kidnap Palestinians from homes Wednesday 17-July-2024 WEST BANK, (PIC) The Israeli occupation forces (IOFs) stormed at dawn different areas of the West Bank and kidnaped a number of Palestinian citizens from their homes, amid clashes with resistance fighters. The most prominent incident was in Jineen, where an Israeli occupation apartheid regime special forces hiding in a Palestinian truck infiltrated into the eastern neighborhood of the city and encircled a house. Local sources said that the Israeli forces bombed the house with an Energa projectile before clashing with resistance fighters. Later, the IOFs ended the operation and withdrew from Jenin after kidnapping a wanted fighter called Nouruddeen Al-Shalabi and another young man. In Qalqilya City, the IOFs took measurements of a house belonging to the family of Ali Bakr, a wanted fighter, and threatened his parents to assassinate him if he did not turn himself in. Armed clashes reportedly took place between resistance fighters and Israeli forces in Qalqilya City. The Israeli occupation forces also kidnapped the mother of another wanted fighter, called Mu'awiya Abu Haniyya, from her home in 'Azzoun town in eastern Qalqilya to pressure her son to turn himself in. In Al-Khaleel (Hebron), the IOFs kidnapped Palestinian journalist and writer Israa Lafi from her home in Sourif town. In Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), the Israeli occupation apartheid regime police forces closed the main entrance of the Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem) district of Al-'Eisawiya, which provoked clashed with local youths. One young man was reportedly injured by police gunfire during the events. ***
*** *** Aggression and Attacks by Illegal Israeli Settlers and Soldiers *** Illegal Israeli settlers raid Al-Aqsa Mosque in Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem) Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Illegal sraeli settlers, under the protection of Israeli occupation apartheid regime police, Wednesday morning broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem). Eyewitnesses said that dozens of the illegal Israeli settlers entered the holy site in groups, conducted provocative tours throughout the compound, and performed Talmudic rituals. During the incursion, the Israeli occupation apartheid regime police imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshippers to the mosque. Additionally, Israeli police intensified the restrictions at the gates of the Old City, effectively turning the area into a military zone. K.T. *** The Israeli occupation apartheid regime forces a Maqdisi (Jerusalemite) Palestinian to demolish his own house Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Today, the Israeli occupation apartheid regime forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish his own house in the town of Al-'Eisawiya, north of Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem). Mu'hammed 'Obaid, a Maqdisi (Jerusalemite) Palestinian citizen, said that he was forced to self-demolish his house after he was notified by the occupation municipality to demolish it immediately without prior notice, adding that the Israeli authorities gave him a day to carry out the demolition. He noted that he and his wife live in the house with an area not exceeding 30 square meters. 'Obaid stated that he began demolishing it himself to avoid fines in the event that the occupation municipality came and demolished the house. It is noteworthy that the occupation authorities force Palestinian citizens, especially in Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), to demolish their homes under the pretext of not having a permit, and whoever rejects, the occupation bulldozers demolish the house and impose exorbitant costs on the owner. The Israeli occupation apartheid regime municipality in Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem) refuses to grant the Palestinians building permits, and demolishes or forces them to demolish their own homes, in a measure that contradicts international laws and humanitarian laws that guarantee the right to housing, within the framework of the Israeli systematic practices of forcibly displacing Palestinians from the city of Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem), in exchange for expanding the settlements in the city and its surroundings. K.T. *** Israeli occupation forces demolish a water well and other structures near Al-Khaleel (Hebron) Al-Khaleel (Hebron), Wednesday, July 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Wednesday demolished an agricultural room and a water well, and swept away a wall, trees, and crops in Bireen and the town of Bani Na'eem, east of Al-Khaleel (Hebron). The building belongs to Jabir's children and grandchildren, and one of these apartments was built before the Israeli occupation of Al-Quds (occupied Jerusalem).
