Starry Night

By Amany Hajyassin

May14, 2004

It was a beautiful night in the camp of Jenin

Stars filled the sky like shinning diamonds

and the moon, with its warm light, kept watching over the camp

You felt the touch of the wind but

you didn't hear it as it passed,

You felt the presence of freedom and peace

while everyone was a sleep

The silence was interrupted

with a massacre in the streets

Quickly, you heard the chilling cries of the scared children

And terrorized screams of the mothers

And all you wanted was to wake up

And find it was all nothing

but a dream
