MY PALESTINIAN BROTHER BY REGINA HILL July 10, 2004 FOR HOUSSAM
I have not seen you face to face, For you live in a distant place. I have not shook your hands or touched your face, But I have felt the warmth of your kind embrace. I have listened to the sad bitter stories you have faced in your life, How it has been filled with war, pain, and strife. You still have inside you a gentleness and ease, That gives me a glimpse of the boy you use to be. I have felt the warm kindness in your soul, The return of your homeland is your only life goal. You have lived a life that has not at all been fair, But still endured what most men could not bare. The same mother or father we do not share, Just to know that to me you are a brother is all I really care. Our lifestyle and culture are not of the same kind, But between us our hearts don't seem to mind. You have gave and taught me more than I could ever repay, And touched my heart more than words would ever say. I have a wish and a prayer dear brother of mine, That freedom and peace in your homeland you will soon find. In Palestine is where I wish for your children to be free, To raise the next generation in your growing family tree. Between our countries is bitterness and hate, But hands have brought us together that are far more than fate. Even though we know the many miles that keep us apart, We share a bond with our ties from the heart. You are a special man in this world like no other, And will always be in my heart as my Palestinian Brother.
