A Call for Submission of Poetry for Palestine Coming Book To be edited By Remi Kanazi Al-Jazeerah, September 27, 2006 I am the editor of the forthcoming book of poetry, Poets for Palestine. I am working on the project with Al Jisser, the group that helped put on the Made in Palestine and Three Arab Painters in New York art exhibitions. The proceeds of the book will go to Al Jisser to fund future cultural projects related to Palestine and the Middle East. Our goal is to bring together poets, spoken word artists, hip hop artists, Palestinians, Arabs, Jews, Americans and all those who choose to raise their voice for humanity and justice. The book will also feature work related to Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan. In addition to its written works, Poets for Palestine will feature art created by Palestinians artists from the Occupied Territories and throughout the world. *** Al Jisser is accepting submissions for its upcoming book: Poets for Palestine. The concept of this book was inspired by two spoken word shows held at The Bridge art gallery in Manhattan. The first show, the Poetic Injustice Poetry Show, took place in conjunction with the display of the Made in Palestine art exhibition. Excited by the intensity and effectiveness of spoken word, The Bridge brought back the Poetic Injustice Poetry Show for a second night. It was held during an equally moving exhibit, Three Arab Painters in New York. Al Jisser hopes to capture the energy of these two nights in Poets for Palestine, invigorating those within the Arab community as well as individuals interested in the plight of Palestinians.
The book will primarily focus on issues pertaining
to Palestine. We are, however, accepting poems on related subjects (i.e.
Lebanon and Iraq). The deadline for submissions is November 10, 2006. Submissions can be emailed to Poets4Palestine@gmail.com or mailed to P.O. Box 255 New York, NY 10013. Please do not submit more than 5 poems as we will be considering a large volume of work. Sincerely, |
