Danish Prime Minister must face war crimes tribunal

By Carsten Kofoed

Free Iraq Blog of Denmark, May 28, 2006

On May 30, the Danish Liberal-Conservative government and the Danish People’s Party (xenophobic, far-right supporting party of the current government, translator’s note) will decide that Denmark continues to participate in the occupation of Iraq. The same war criminals violated international law by making Denmark a participant in the unprovoked aggression in March 2003.

The so-called opposition is politely expressing its disagreement with the government, which is now using the whole state bureaucracy in order to hinder the legal proceedings of the Constitution Committee against the Danish Prime Minister for breaches of the Constitution as regards the aggression that violated the UN Charter.

Fogh Rasmussen and Co. have destroyed Iraq and are responsible for the deaths of close on 200,000 Iraqis. Which decent country lets the perpetrators of such gigantic crimes escape justice?

Opponents of the war – especially those in the parliament – must not only express their full support for the trial against the Prime Minister, but also work seriously for establishing an international war crimes tribunal, where Fogh Rasmussen and his war allies can be called to account for their war crimes in Iraq.

Anything else will be like spitting on the Iraqi victims and bear the seeds for new crimes.
