Khamis Al-Obaidi: Martyr in the struggle for justice By Carsten Kofoed Free Iraq Blog of Denmark, June 24, 2006. Another lawyer defending the illegally deposed Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein, has been killed. Khamis Al-Obaidi became the third lawyer to be killed since “the trial” started in October. The remaining lawyers of the defence team, among whom is former US Attorney General, Ramsey Clark, are blaming the occupation force and its puppet regime for the killings. In fact, they are responsible for the security of the lawyers and the accused. But what is Mr. Kofi Annan saying? The political parties of the Danish parliament? Amnesty? While they have been completely silent, courageous lawyers in Iraq have been sacrificing their lives for the defence of principles of law that are usually hailed in the West and in Denmark. These lawyers died for their belief in justice. The US show trial against President Saddam Hussein is not only a bizarre product of the aggression that violated the UN Charter. It is an outrage on justice and has to be stopped. Only a free Iraq is able to judge its own history.
