Israeli Deceit

By William Hardiker

Al-Jazeerah, July 26, 2006

We know who is in the right. We know who the real terrorists are. The Western corporate, propagandized media may spin and interpret the facts in any way they desire, but we are not so easily fooled. For the same reason, we are not fooled by the official justification for the declaration of a “war on terrorism”. At a recent rally in Melbourne, Australia, protesting Israeli aggression in the north and south of the country many banners read “Who Are the Real Terrorists” A poignant question indeed.

The Bush Administration, which is backing its attack dog, Israel in its latest unjustifiable assault on a people who are completely innocent of any crime, has long been ‘on the table ‘. Like September 11, 2001 and the war on terror, it took only the capture of a couple of Israeli soldiers to give the US/Israeli wolves their prima facie reason to ‘go in hard’. Such a strategy was “on the table” long before the kidnapping of soldiers and crude missile attacks against Israel. But how disproportionate has been the response? Looking back in time, in the past month Israel has attempted to assassinate Palestinian leaders costing many civilian lives. It has bombed a beach killing innocent children. It has also carried out successive raids which have shattered lives and infrastructure.

Are Israeli lives so much more valuable than those of Arabs? From a Western point of view it would seem disgracefully so. The US can argue endlessly in regards to the justification for its wars, but the facts remain unchanged, they themselves are the terrorists and they support States which use terrorism to achieve political objectives. There exists no regional Middle Eastern regime that can even remotely threaten Israel. How then can this war be justified? Attempting to view both sides of the conflict objectively, one always arrives at the same conclusion, for there can be no other rational explanation. It is in American interests that there be a war on the Lebanon and consequent conflict with Syria and Iran to shore up regional security under a US/Israeli banner.

Nothing within the mainstream corporate media gives us a balanced, objective analysis of the situation in the Middle East. We are fed a constant diet of lies, deceit and propaganda. The continual reference to Hezbollah as “terrorists” is something of a joke for Israel’s continual assaults on the Palestinians far exceeds anything Hamas or Hezbollah has done to Israel. We know that the US and Israel are the real terrorists and it’s shameful to admit. The fabrication of the “war on terrorism” is giving States carte Blanc authority to take up arms and attack perceived aggressors.

Since 9/11, how many terrorist attacks have there been on American soil? Not a single one. Does this not tell us something of the nature of Bush’s war? One dramatic attack that stunned the world has enabled the US to act as global policeman and initiate foreign policy that is above and beyond United Nations resolutions, International laws and treaties. Why have there been no further attacks? Surely if we are involved in a war against terrorism, then there would be terrorist attacks? Yet again, we know better. The entire configuration of the ‘war on terror’ was an idea borne by the Neo Conservatives. The neo-con war mongers of ex-US President Reagan’s Administration and it was implemented for very specific reasons. Fact; to secure Middle Eastern oil reserves.

So I know whom I am supporting in this latest round of hypocrisy and war – Hezbollah and the people of Lebanon.
