US-Israeli agenda in the war against Lebanon

By William Hardiker

Al-Jazeerah, July 23, 2006

Who are these men of war who slaughter, maim and displace thousands of people?

Who grants them the authority to break God's law, as well as the fundamental precepts of humanitarian conduct? What justifies the abandonment of all morality and ethical codes of human behavior? The aggressive Israeli response to the kidnapping of its soldiers is but a smokescreen for its real agenda. In concert with the US it is waging an unjust war against a weaker State for express geo-strategic and political reasons.

In 1996, a group of pro-Israeli Americans – including Richard Perle, James Colbert, Charles Fairbanks Jr, Douglas Feith, Robert Loewenberg, David Wurmser, and Meyrav Wurmser – prepared a policy Statement for the then Prime Minister Of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu which proposed a strategy of regime change as the only solution for Israel's growing encirclement and isolation.

The principal problem they made in "The clean break: A new strategy for securing the realm," was Syria and the troublesome border with Lebanon. The report states that Syria challenges Israel on Lebanese soil. An effective approach, and one with which America can sympathize, would be if Israel seized the strategic initiative along its northern borders by engaging Hizbullah, Syria and Iran, as the primary agents of aggression in Lebanon.

This could only occur if Saddam Hussein was toppled and Iraq occupied. Israel can shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right as a means of foiling Syria's regional ambitions.

This policy statement is evidence enough that the US and Israel long planned the war we are witnessing against Lebanon today.
