Muslim Americans in Massachusetts Denounce and Condemn Danish Provocation in a Letter to Danish PM By Tahir Ali Al-Jazeerah, February 18, 2006 The following letter has been sent to the Danish Embassy in USA, addressed to Danish PM The members of the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester (ISGW) and the Worcester Islamic Center (WIC), clearly denounce and condemn Danish provocation - but cautions against the trap, and proposes strategic outreach. Whereas; this useless provocation and its dire affects are demonstrated world-wide, the responsiblity to difuse the outrage still fall under the Danish Prime Minister; Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who should come out with a public apology, and take cognizance of the following: "The cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) published first in Danish Newspaper Jyllands Postens on September 30, 2005 - consequently in European newspapers - were offensive and insulting to Muslims around the world. The Prophet is held in the highest esteem to Muslims, and to have him slandered by these cartoons constituted an abuse of free speech and freedom of the press. "It is against the principles of Islam to make fun of any religion and or make fun of any prophets, including Mohammad, Moses, Jesus Christ, etc "The Prophet taught Muslims to engage in dialogue and be kind and gracious to all people, which is exemplified by the reaction of American Muslims who have used this controversy to participate peacefully in the current debate. "We must separate wheat from chaff. The issue in not freedom of speech and no one is calling for censorship. The issue is increasing lack of tolerance against Muslims and Islam in the West." We concur with American Muslim Alliance - that world over Muslims must recognize and resist an emerging pattern of provocation and entrapment. This entrapment leads to insult and humiliation, on the one hand, and cleverly insinuated conflict with free speech, on the other. While subjecting Muslims and Islam to palpable intolerance, this clever stratagem seeks to make them appear t! he intolerant community. "We must also remain vigilant against agent provocateurs who may seek to involve some segment of the community in irresponsible action. "Muslim social, political and cultural organizations should reach out to other communities and solicit their support against these brazen acts of bigotry. In an open, free speech society, bigotry is fought and defeated through public consciousness and rational analysis. Public rebuke is to bigotry what sunshine is to germs. "Muslims living in Western societies should educate themselves and others about this phenomenon of deliberate defamation and willful humiliating that is likely to continue for the fore! seeable future by way of repeated provocations against, Islam, Quran, and the Prophet."
