Man Proposes, God Disposes By Alik Khan Al-Jazeerah, November 22, 2004
Hearing the news of the increase in opium production by 64% in Afghanistan in the last year alone, indicates how well the 'democracy' installed by the US is running. Congratulations Mr. Bush!! You deserve every ridicule you get for this big 'boo-boo'. If this is the result of the 'democracy' that the US is trying to preach to the world, imagine what state Iraq will end up as, not that it is in a good position at the moment. What had the US planned, and what example has come of it. I'm sure a similar miscalculation will be visible in Iraq as well - for example the headstrong resistance being met by the US forces. Bush and his 'circumspect and conniving' administration definitely didn't expect this sort of welcome. A year after the war was officially declared over, and the fighting continues - in fact, there have been greater fatalities after the 'war' than during the 'war'. I completely agree on the fact that the US, Israel, and the 'Western societies' are better planners and strategists than those in the Eastern part of the world - but one thing to note is that no superpower has lasted forever. No plan is perfect and no strategy without flaw. The US has reached its pinnacle and has started on the long journey to the pits, as is clearly evident in the re-election of Bush. No one has ever been able to control or reign over Baghdad other than the Iraqis themselves - the Americans are no dofferent - they will be kicked out soon. The only choice they have is whether they want to leave with dignity having stopped enforcing itself on the Iraqis or with ridicule, like or even worse than in Vietnam, as this time America had 'won' the war.
