The 51st State Tariq a Al-Maeena Al-Jazeerah, 10/24/03
The stars are stripes are undergoing a subtle change. room is being cleared away to make way for a new star. only this one is slightly different. It is the star of David, and represents the entry of the new state of Israel. Engineered by Mr. George Bush, the President of the United States and an administration whose mandate has been dubiously sinister at best, this step serves as an affirmation of adoration Mr. Bush has for the regional butcher of peace, Ariel Sharon. No doubt, Mr. bush's crowning moment would be to instill Mr. Sharon as the governor of this new state. It is a perfect marriage between two war-mongering partners. Ever since both had been elected within months of each other, the world, and specifically this region have been a far less safer place. And for Mr. Sharon who has been directing US Middle Eastern foreign policy from afar but effectively, this act proves just how adept he has been in pursuit of nominating himself as the regional war-lord. Forget about Colin Powell and all those other cautious voices for parity and sense within an administration beset by self-interests and blindly led into conflicting paths when it comes to administering foreign policy. And as long as Mr. Bush provides the cover with such hypocritical words as dubbing Mr. Sharon 'a man of peace' time and time again, things are sure not going to get any better. And for Mr. Sharon what better cover to operate under to realize his grand dream of wiping out a people from their own lands, and extending his sphere of influence in the region. Here is a man directly implicated in massacres of the innocent in Sabra and Shatilla. He has a personal hand in another massacre of a whole village. He revolted against previous peace agreements such as the Oslo pact, and is extremely furious by the latest attempts for a peaceful dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians set to begin in Geneva. Mr. Sharon must secretly appreciate suicide bombers. For they provide him the perfect excuse to legitimize his killings of the innocent everywhere. One incident by a mutated person who takes matters into his own hands lets loose this reactive barrage of murder and mayhem against the innocent. And all the while grandstanding that it has been a lawful reaction to stem the flow of terrorism. You just don't kill or maim a people and expect their relatives to look up to you in gratitude and without grudge. His reactive strikes against refugees in Rafah and countless other camps illustrates just how devoted he is towards peace. And not content with his barbarity within Palestine, he has now taken it upon himself to extend his aggressive policies towards Syria, craftily painted as a haven for terrorism, a call immediately taken up by Mr. Bush. And no matter what aggressive course Mr. Sharon supported by Mr. Bush focuses towards the Palestinians, the flame of freedom will grow stronger and more determined within those people. And their resistance grows stronger. For right eventually prevails. And while for now Mr. Bush will be pleased to add another star to the union flag, the time will come when these events will be looked upon as a dark blot in the history of mankind.
