Israeli Occupation Army Murders 7 Palestinians in 48 Hours,

No Condemnation or Criticism in US-EU Media and Governments

By Mazin Qumsiyeh

Al-Jazeerah, CCUN, March 15, 2014

Israel occupation army murdered 7 Palestinians in the last 48 hours. Israeli apartheid soldiers shot 18 year old Saji Darwish, a students at one of the two universities I teach at (Birzeit). He was short in the head herding his goats. Thousands attended the funeral.

Israeli soldier also shot a Northern Amman Circuit Court Judge Raed Zueiter and lied about the circumstances of killing him and refuse to release the videotape that they have of the incident. I did not know this father of two (he has 5 year old child who is very ill and he was visiting to raise money needed for treatment). But from my research for my book on popular resistance in Palestine, I have a lot of admiration for the Zueiter family and their sacrifices for Palestine.

For example, there is Akram Zueiter who cofounded Hizb Al-Istiqlal (Party for Independence) in 1931 and represented an Arab nationalist strand that rejected imperialism and Zionism. Prominent leaders included Awni Abel-Hadi, Subhi Al-Khadhra, Akram Zueiter, Salim Salameh and Fahmi Al-Aboushi.

I added in my book that "Akram Zueiter, former editor of Mir’at Al-Sharq in Jerusalem ... Zueiter had left his teaching post in Acre at the age of 20 to became editor and an activist. He was arrested and imprisoned for three months, then ‘deported’ to Nablus, where he stepped up his work against the British occupation. He co-founded Hizb Al-Istiqlal and was arrested in the uprising of 1936. Later, he headed an Arab delegation to Latin America and wrote a book about that experience." (Mazin Qumsiyeh, Popular Resistance in Palestine: A history of hope and empowerment, PutopPress, 2010).

Israeli occupation forces murdered 7 Palestinians in the last 48 hours. Clearly this is leading to further boiling of emotions of people under Israeli colonial occupation.  I had predicted an uprising coming and it seems it will happen. Unfortunately the old leadership is still trying to smother any uprising.  Mr. Mahmoud Abbas only has time to praise the coup leader in Egypt (General Sisi) and condemn Hamas.  He does not seem to have time or inclination to rethink strategy or change his disastrous 21-year course that brought us to this. The coming uprising will change all calibrations though.
