President of the Interinstitutional Committee will attend the meeting for the census

The Digital Times, Published on 26/10/2022

Vicente Cuellar, rector of the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (Uagrm) and president of the Interinstitutional Committee of Santa Cruz, will attend the national meeting for the census to be held this Friday in Santa Cruz, confirmed the vice rector of this higher house of studies, Reinerio Vargas.

"Yes, attend, I just spoke with Mr. Rector, who is attending. He will go to defend the position of the Interinstitutional Committee that has come to fruition from the town hall. We demand that the census be 2023 and the date and day be technically determined," Vargas told Unitel.

The meeting was convened by President Luis Arce, to establish a definitive position on the date of the census.

Vargas said that the meeting will be attended, but that does not mean that the strike will be lifted, on the contrary, it will be reinforced.

Santa Cruz celebrates this Wednesday its fifth day of indefinite strike demanding that the census be carried out in 2023.

They threaten to surround Santa Cruz with "a million peasants" and sustain it "until they generate famine"

"Our siege will be forceful, with great vehemence, aimed at depleting basic food," said leader Omar Ramírez.

El Deber, October 26, 2022, 2:12 PM

Harsh warning against Santa Cruz. Omar Ramírez, secretary of international relations of the Single Trade Union Confederation of Peasant Workers of Bolivia (Csutcb), announced that they are preparing the 'Tupac Katari' plan, to surround Santa Cruz, leave it without food for its inhabitants, cut off basic services and take over Santa Cruz institutions.

The leader indicated that he intends to mobilize up to one million peasants who will arrive from other regions of the country to Santa Cruz to comply with the siege that will be "for a long time." The extreme measure wants to show the rejection of the strike that is fulfilled in the Santa Cruz department for a Population and Housing Census for 2023.

"It is not easy to organize an action of this nature, but I think it is necessary to give an exemplary punishment mainly to the Santa Cruz oligarchy. To the business sector, to the people who, by stopping, continue to enjoy their monthly salaries and salaries," Ramírez said. The leader did not specify when he will make his threat.

He accused Santa Cruz Governor Luis Fernando Camacho and the president of the Civic Committee for Santa Cruz, Romulo Calvo, of affecting "the small producer, union" and the economy of the Santa Cruz department with the indefinite strike.

He asked the peasant leaders who live in the capital of Santa Cruz to return to their communities of origin in the face of the "famine" that will be generated in this city due to the extreme measure of pressure they will execute.

"Our siege will be forceful, with great vehemence, aimed at depleting basic food. We are also going to cut all public, private, land and air transport services. We do not rule out even cutting basic services," the leader said.

The president of the State, Luis Arce Catacora, during the congress he held with the Csutcb Cochabamba last Monday, asked the peasants to stop any "coup adventure" of the "right".

On Wednesday morning, Santa Cruz woke up with at least three road blocking points, including the route to the Valleys, Camiri, Beni and Brazil. The protagonists are social sectors related to the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), who reject the indefinite strike that was requested by citizens in the Cabildo held last Friday, September 30.

Jhonny Fernández confirms his attendance at the "plurinational meeting" convened by the president in Cochabamba

Mayor Jhonny Fernández shows the invitation of the Vice Ministry of Autonomy

Elizabeth The Fountain

El Deber, October 26, 2022, 12:28 PM

Around noon on Wednesday, Mayor Jhonny Fernández called a press conference to confirm his attendance at the "plurinational meeting" this Friday. President Luis Arce summoned municipal, departmental and indigenous authorities, as well as universities, in Cochabamba.

During the announcement, he showed the formal invitation he received from the Vice Ministry of Autonomies. He also showed the press the updated cartography of the city of Santa Cruz, validated by the INE, which he will take to that meeting as a proposal.

Fernández said he felt "very worried" about the days of unemployment and blockades, which not only damage the economy but have also led to confrontation between citizens. "The best scenario is dialogue, there is no other way to solve the problems, let's hope that tempers will drop. Be patient until we can meet (this Friday) and have positive responses for pacification in Bolivia," was part of his statement at the facilities of the municipal estate.

The mayor praised the work done by the municipality's technical teams. "We have several alternatives on the times of each of the activities that have to be carried out for the census. They will be analyzed and taken into consideration at the meeting," Fernandez explained.

Finally, he reiterated that "we all want census as soon as possible and social peace; We want to return to normality, work so that we do not harm ourselves and do not cause damage among Bolivians themselves." He asked citizens for patience, tolerance and not to be intransigent.

The blockade points rise to 69 and from the provinces they see that the fences reinforce the indefinite strike

Eduardo Ruilowa

El Deber, October 26, 2022, 12:05 PM

On the fifth day of indefinite strike that is observed in the department of Santa Cruz, the measure gains more and more strength in the provinces with pickets of blockades and citizen demonstrations. To this, the siege of social organizations related to the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) in three of the main roads of Santa Cruz is added. Indirectly, they support pressuring the government to repeal Supreme Decree 4760 that postpones the census until 2024, say the civics.

José Ernesto Serrate, president of the Provincial Civic Committee, informed EL DEBER that, day after day, the protests demanding the census were increasing in the provinces, reaching 69 blocking points until this Wednesday.

"This shows us that we are not wrong, it shows us that we have the same thinking as the people of the villages. We want to live with dignity, to improve our health, to improve education and to have good paths for our communities. There are many needs that we have and that is why it is being shown that we are all in the same fight, "said Serrate.

The civic commented that the vehicular and pedestrian circulation in the streets of the municipalities is diminished unlike the normal days. In addition, he mentioned that, except for the incidents registered in Puerto Quijarro, where the death of one person was lamented, tranquility has prevailed throughout the department.

"There have been some isolated problems, but not political, but with some misfit drivers who knew very well, in advance, because we announced that we were going to have these road blocks, they have to accept what is being experienced, but there are some who arrive and want to look for a fight, but they are calmed down, they are even fed and helped because that is the custom of the peoples." Said.

Regarding the siege of Santa Cruz that was installed on the roads to the Valleys, Camiri, Beni and Brazil by social sectors that reject indefinite unemployment, he assured that these blockades support the measure for the census. However, he regretted that it is carried out with intentions to harm the department and go against the struggle that seeks better conditions for the region.

"I thank them because they are helping us block. I thank them very much, anyway, the sense that they do it is barbaric. We know who are those who are making those fences that say they love Santa Cruz, they are people who are not from the place, people who have come from outside, from other departments and those people are the ones who most need the fight we are doing, because they do need a good school and a good hospital for their children and it is ironic that they are the ones who oppose us getting it. that we seek to improve and give dignity to our peoples," he added.
