Palestinian American Elderly Man Killed, Scores Injured and Abducted by Israeli Occupation Soldiers, TV Crew Assaulted by Illegal Israeli Settlers

 January 16, 2022

Editor's Note:

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of David, Solomon, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

The following news stories are just examples of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Army Attacks Protesters In Sbeih Mountain In Beita

 JAN 15, 2022

Israeli soldiers attacked, Friday, dozens of Palestinian protesters in Sbeih Mountain in Beita town, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus after dozens of residents marched to their mountain to protest the illegal violations and annexation of their lands.

Media sources said dozens of Palestinians marched to their mountain where they held Friday noon prayers and started chanting against the ongoing and escalating Israeli violations.

They added that the Palestinians then tried to reach the top of the mountain before the soldiers started firing a barrage of gas bombs, concussion grenades, rubber-coated steel bullets, and a few live rounds.

The soldiers also chased and attempted to abduct many nonviolent protesters who were able to escape despite extensive military deployment.

Earlier Friday, the soldiers bulldozed and destroyed several agricultural roads leading to Sbeih Mountain, and uprooted dozens of olive trees.

The Palestinians have been holding ongoing processions on their lands in Sbeih Mountain since May of last year after a group of illegal Israeli colonizers installed an outpost atop the mountain. During these protests, the soldiers injured thousands of Palestinians and killed several others, including children.

The Mountain, owned by the Palestinians, has significant strategic importance, especially since if it is occupied by the colonizers the colony would lead to the annexation of 20 Dunams of Palestinian lands, and would also lead to the isolation of a large area of Palestinian lands.

 JAN 14, 2022

 JAN 14, 2022

Israeli soldiers injured, Friday, six Palestinians during the weekly procession against the illegal Annexation Wall and colonies in Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqilia, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

It is worth mentioning that, on January 5th, 2021, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said the detainee is in a coma.

During the procession in Kufur Qaddoum, the soldiers fired many rubber-coated steel bullets, causing six injuries, while several Palestinians also suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

The Palestinians have been holding weekly processions for the last eighteen years, demanding the army to reopen the village’s main road which was blockaded to allow easy access to the illegal colonizers, driving to and from Kedumim illegal colony, which was built on stolen Palestinian lands.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official who monitors Israel’s illegal colonialist activities in northern West Bank, said the soldiers invaded Bazaria village, leading to protests at its main road.

He added that the soldiers fired many gas bombs and concussion grenades at the Palestinians, causing many to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation, including several residents in their homes.

Daghlas also said that the soldiers fired concussion grenades at several shops, causing damage, and forcing them to close.

In addition, the soldiers invaded Burqa village, leading to protests, before shooting seven Palestinians with rubber-coated steel bullets, in addition to causing at least 34 to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

WAFA: “Israel forces Palestinian to self-demolish store in Jerusalem-district camp”

 JAN 14, 2022

JERUSALEM, Thursday, January 13, 2022 (WAFA) –

Israeli occupation authorities today forced a Palestinian to self-demolish his store in Shufat refugee camp, northeast of Jerusalem, according to WAFA correspondent.

She said that Jamal Mohammad Ali tore down his commercial store, which had an area of 150 square meters and was still under construction, purportedly for being built without a license.

Ali received a demolition order nine days ago, whereby the Jerusalem municipality gave him the choice to carry out the demolition himself or pay exorbitant fines if the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem carries out the demolition on its own.

Using the pretext of illegal building, Israel demolishes houses on a regular basis to restrict Palestinian expansion in occupied Jerusalem.

At the same time, the municipality and government build tens of thousands of housing units in illegal settlements in East Jerusalem for Jews with a goal to offset the demographic balance in favor of the Jewish settlers in the occupied city.

Although Palestinians in East Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian Territory that has been subject to Israeli military occupation since 1967, they are denied their citizenship rights and are instead classified only as “residents” whose permits can be revoked if they move away from the city for more than a few years.

They are also discriminated against in all aspects of life including housing, employment, and services, and are unable to access services in the West Bank due to the construction of Israel’s separation wall.

According to a report by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, the Israeli High Court could be liable for war crimes for their policies that led to the dispossession of Palestinians from their properties in Area C of the West Bank.

The report, Fake Justice, shows that the court’s support of Israeli planning policy is tantamount to support for dispossession and forcible transfer of Palestinians, a war crime under international law.

WAFA: “Palestine TV crew attacked, bruised by Israeli settlers on a West Bank Road”

 JAN 14, 2022

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 13, 2022 (WAFA): A Palestine TV crew was today attacked by Israeli settlers who blocked West Bank roads east of Ramallah, reported WAFA correspondent.

The crew, who were bruised in the attack, said Israeli soldiers were in the area but did nothing to stop the settlers or reopen the roads.

The settlers have been waging daily attacks against Palestinian commuters on West Bank Road, attacking cars with stones, injuring people, and damaging vehicles. None of the settlers has been arrested.

The police fired rubber-coated metal bullets, tear gas bombs, and wastewater mixed with chemicals, causing several injuries and suffocation cases.

Video from Palestine TV

The Palestinian Bedouin community, on Tuesday, announced a general strike in protest of the ongoing demolition operations in unrecognized Palestinian villages in the Negev desert, the Middle East Eye reported.

It added that Israeli police stormed, on Tuesday, al-Atrash and al-Sawa villages, and tore down solidarity tents set up for demonstrators in rejection of the continuous Israeli violations, adding that police fired tear gas and concussion grenades at protestors and detained 20 people, including women.

Police sealed off the villages while Israeli bulldozers razed agricultural land for the second day in a row.

The Higher Follow Up Committee of Arabs in the Negev have announced a general strike in response to the demolitions, and a demonstration is planned for Thursday at 3 pm local time.

Nearly 100,000 Palestinians hold Israeli citizenship and reside in 35 ‘unrecognized’ villages, which are denied any support from the Israeli government for infrastructure, roads, or schools.

On Monday, Israeli soldiers invaded the Bedouin village of Al-Atrash accompanying bulldozers that began to raze large areas of land.

Soldiers assaulted and detained a Palestinian journalist, identified as Yasser Aqabi, who was attempting to provide coverage of the incident, in addition to assaulting several residents who protested the destruction, before detaining one unidentified resident.

Soldiers Shoot A Young Man In Tubas

 JAN 13, 2022

Israeli soldiers invaded, on Thursday at dawn, Tubas city in the northeastern West Bank, leading to protests, before shooting a young man with a live round.

Media sources said several army jeeps invaded the city before the soldiers shot the young man with a live round in the arm during protests that erupted after the soldiers stormed and searched homes.

Elderly Palestinian Man Killed After Israeli Soldiers Assaulted Him Near Ramallah

 JAN 12, 2022

Palestinian medical sources have confirmed, on Wednesday at dawn, that an elderly man, who is also a US citizen, was killed after Israeli soldiers detained and repeatedly assaulted him near Ramallah, in the central part of the occupied West Bank.

The sources said the man has been identified as Omar Abul-Majid As’ad, 80, from Jaljulia village, north of Ramallah.

The Mayor of Jaljulia, Fuad Motea’, said the soldiers invaded the village and abducted Omar, before constantly assaulting him in an under-construction home, before leaving him on the ground.

Motea’ also added that the elderly man was detained by the soldiers in the al-Ein area in Jaljulia before he was cuffed, blindfolded, and assaulted by the soldiers.

He stated that Palestinian medics rushed to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the man, before moving his corpse to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah.

His nephew, Mohammad, told Palestine TV that several army vehicles invaded the village after midnight, before forcing him out of a car, cuffed and blindfolded him, and started to drag him on the ground before taking him to the under-construction building.

He added that after the soldiers repeatedly struck his uncle in the under-construction home, and after realizing that he was dead they just left him on the ground and left the area.

“He was an old man with respiratory issues; the soldiers had no reason to abduct him, let alone to cuff and blindfold him, and to take him to an under-construction home, where they constantly assaulted him, and then just left him there!” Mohammad said.

The Palestinians found his corpse approximately at 4 at dawn in the under-construction building, after the soldiers withdrew from the village.

It is worth mentioning that the soldiers detained several Palestinians during the invasion, and the slain elderly man was the only one who was taken to the building.

The Palestinian News & Info Agency (WAFA) said the slain elderly man has U.S citizenship but cannot enter or leave the West Bank without a Palestinian ID and a Palestinian passport.

All Palestinians with foreign citizenship must enter or leave Palestine using only their Palestinian documents when they cross the Israeli-controlled border terminals.

WAFA added that “Omar was waiting for family reunification papers and a Palestinian ID”, issued by the Palestinian Authority when and if Israel agrees.

Furthermore, Reuters reported that Omar spent many years in the United States, living in Milwaukie – Wisconsin, and returned to the West Bank ten years ago.

On its part, the Washington Post stated that U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price said U.S. officials had requested “clarification” from Israel regarding the circumstances that led to his death.

“We support a thorough investigation into the circumstances,” Price told reporters.

Israeli Navy Attacks A Fishing Boat Near Gaza

 JAN 13, 2022

Israeli navy ships attacked, on Wednesday evening, a Palestinian fishing boat offshore the city of Gaza, in the besieged coastal region.

Media sources said the boat was within Palestinian water, less than six nautical miles from the shore, when a navy ship started firing live rounds at it, in addition to using water cannons.

The attack caused damage, but did not lead to casualties or abductions, and forced the fishermen back to the shore to avoid further escalation.

On Tuesday, similar Israeli attacks targeted fishermen off the coast of Gaza city, and farmers on their lands in the central Gaza Strip.

The army frequently attacks farmersshepherds, workers, and fishermen across the eastern parts of the coastal region and in Palestinian territorial waters, leading to dozens of casualties, including fatalities, in addition to preventing the Palestinians from tending to their lands and from fishing to provide for their families.

In March of last year, the Palestinian Interior Ministry in Gaza said Israeli mines were responsible for an explosion that led to the death of three fishermen.

Soldiers Abduct Five Palestinians In Bethlehem

 JAN 11, 2022

Israeli soldiers abducted, on Tuesday at dawn, five Palestinians from Beit Sahour city and the Deheishe refugee camp in the Bethlehem governorate, south of occupied Jerusalem, in the West Bank.

They added that the soldiers also invaded the Deheishe refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, searched homes, and abducted Mohammad Eyad al-Masri, 20.

It is worth mentioning that the army has recently escalated its invasions and abductions in Bethlehem, including the Monday invasion into Bethlehem city, Beit Fajjar, and the al-Kader towns, when the soldiers abducted eight Palestinians.

UNRWA Calls For Immediate Release Of Critically Ill Child Amal Nakhleh

 JAN 15, 2022

By UNRWA: (January 13, 2022) --

Amal Muamar Nakhleh is a 17-year-old Palestine refugee from the Jalazone camp. Amal was placed in administrative detention by the Israeli Security Forces (ISF) for six months on 21 January 2021.

The administrative detention was then extended for four months in May 2021 and then again in September 2021 for an additional four months. When the current extension expires on 18 January 2022, Amal will have been in prison for a year and will be 18 years old, no longer a minor.

Neither Amal nor his family are aware of the charges against him and have been informed by the Israeli authorities that it is a “confidential administrative case.” Amal’s legal team stated that this is one of the most prolonged cases of administrative attention of a child that they have come across.

Amal was born three months prematurely and was diagnosed with severe autoimmune disease: myasthenia gravis. This condition requires continuous medical treatment and monitoring. Just a few months prior to his detention, Amal underwent surgery to remove a cancerous mass.

Due to his health conditions, Amal cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19 and must take immune-suppressants, meaning that his life is at high risk if he contracts COVID-19. As is well known, prison settings are not appropriate for treating and monitoring autoimmune diseases, let alone providing adequate protection against COVID-19.

During the military court proceedings in the past few days – one of the few times Amal’s family was allowed to see him in the past year – his family observed that Amal had difficulty talking and breathing, both of which are signs that his medical condition has deteriorated.

During the court hearing, Amal informed the judge that he would start a hunger strike if his administrative detention were to be extended further.

If he takes this step, Amal would be at grave risk due to his already fragile health condition. A decision on the extension of his administrative detention is scheduled to be taken this Tuesday, 18 January 2022.

The administrative detention imposed on Amal without charges and based on classified evidence is a form of arbitrary detention not permissible under public international law. It deprives him of the appropriate care required by his underlying medical condition, exposing him to increased risks of aggravation of his health.

Israel, as a party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, shall ensure that the “arrest, detention or imprisonment of a child shall be in conformity with the law and shall be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period of time.”

In accordance with the Convention, “[e]very child deprived of liberty shall be treated with humanity and respect for the inherent dignity of the human person, and in a manner which takes into account the needs of persons of his or her age” and that any detained child “shall have the right to prompt access to legal and other appropriate assistance, as well as the right to challenge the legality of the deprivation of his or her liberty before a court or other competent, independent and impartial authority, and to a prompt decision on any such action.”

UNRWA West Bank calls for the immediate release of Amal Nakhleh from administrative detention on urgent humanitarian grounds and is highly concerned about the ongoing arbitrary detention of a minor.

Background Information:

UNRWA is confronted with an increased demand for services resulting from a growth in the number of registered Palestine refugees, the extent of their vulnerability and their deepening poverty. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions and financial support has been outpaced by the growth in needs.

As a result, the UNRWA programme budget, which supports the delivery of core essential services, operates with a large shortfall. UNRWA encourages all Member States to work collectively to exert all possible efforts to fully fund the Agency’s programme budget. UNRWA emergency programmes and key projects, also operating with large shortfalls, are funded through separate funding portals.

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 with a mandate to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to registered Palestine refugees in the Agency’s area of operations, namely the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.

Thousands of Palestine refugees who lost both their homes and livelihood because of the 1948 conflict have remained displaced and in need of significant support for over seventy years.

UNRWA helps them achieve their full potential in human development through quality services it provides in education, health care, relief and social services, protection, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.
