Israeli Occupation Regime Continues Abuse, Mistreatment, Demolitions, Abductions, and Injuring of Palestinians February 22, 2020 Editor's Note: While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of David, Solomon, and Solomon's son). After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD. By the Time Jesus started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD. So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents. The following news stories are just examples of the Israeli occupation government abuse, mistreatment, and violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis. Israeli Occupation Navy Fires Shells At Palestinian Fishing Boats In Gaza IMEMC, FEB 22, 2021 Israeli occupation navy ships fired, on Monday morning, two shells at Palestinian fishing boats near the shore in the central part of the Gaza Strip. The navy fired the two shells at the boats while sailing less than six nautical miles in Palestinian territorial waters, a fisherman who witnessed the attack said. He added that the shells did not hit the fishing boats but exploded near them, forcing the fishermen back to the shore without being able to fish to provide for their families. The attack is part of the numerous Israeli violations targeting the Palestinians in Gaza territorial waters, in addition to farmers, workers, and shepherds on lands close to the perimeter fence in the besieged and impoverished coastal region. Israel repeatedly expands and reduces the fishing zone in Gaza, from three to six then to nine, and back to three or six, while the Oslo agreements between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization clearly set the fishing zone in the Gaza Strip to twenty nautical miles. Earlier Monday, the soldiers, stationed across the perimeter fence, fired many live rounds at Palestinian farmers on their lands, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Israeli Occupation Soldiers Demolish A Residential Building In Jerusalem, Displacing 17 Family Members IMEMC, FEB 22, 2021 Dozens of Israeli occupation soldiers and police officers, accompanied by bulldozers, invaded the al-‘Isawiya town, in occupied Jerusalem and demolished a Palestinian building, housing seventeen members of Oleyyan family. Resident Fadi Oleyyan, who works as a guard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, said his family’s building did not violate the zoning laws, and is included in the Structural Map of the town. Oleyyan added the family constructed the building ten years ago, and said the destruction is part of Israel’s illegal policies targeting the indigenous Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem to replace them with colonialist settlers. The army said the building was constructed without a permit from the City Council, in occupied Jerusalem. The family filed numerous applications and paid large sums to the City Council to obtain all needed permits, but the appeals were all denied. “The attack is politically motivated, especially since Israel froze the destruction of homes to allow the advancement of the structure zoning of the town,” he said, “However, Israel’s laws regarding Palestinian constructions in occupied Jerusalem, are unjust and only aim at removing the Palestinians to replace them with illegal colonialist settlers.” “I have received lately many threatening calls by Israeli security officers who clearly said that they would demolish my home if I don’t stop working as a guard in Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially since my colleagues, and I frequently intercept and try to stop the colonists from invading and desecrating the holy site,” he said. It is worth mentioning that Oleyyan spent more than a year in Israeli prisons, in addition to being repeatedly detained and interrogated, in addition to receiving many orders barring him from entering Al-Aqsa and its surrounding areas for various periods of time, although he works as a guard at the holy site. His father stood in front of the soldiers who surrounded the building before demolishing it, and said that the ongoing destruction and displacement are the “fruits of the poisonous tree of the extreme Israeli right-wing occupation government.” “They want us out of our lands,” he added, “We have no other place to go to anyway, and here we will stay.” The demolished building contains four flats, housing seventeen family members, who were all rendered homeless. It is worth mentioning that the family was only informed of the final decision to demolish the building, on Sunday, and had to rush to remove their furniture and belongings before the soldiers started the destruction. Israeli Occupation Army Demolishes Bedouin Village In Northern Plains For The Sixth Time This Year IMEMC, FEB 22, 2021 Israeli occupation soldiers invaded, Monday, Khirbat Hamsa al-Foqa village, in the Northern Plains of the occupied West Bank, and began the demolition of its tents and sheds; the attack is the sixth of its kind this year alone. Mo’taz Bisharat, a Palestinian Authority official who monitors Israel’s illegal colonialist activities in the Jordan Valley, said dozens of soldiers surrounded the Bedouin community before invading it. Bisharat added that the soldiers started the demolition and removal of many residential sheds and tents, in addition to barns. The official stated that the demolished structures were installed through donations by international human rights groups to provide shelter for the Palestinians who keep facing constant displacement by the Israeli occupation army. The demolition came just one day after the soldiers invaded the community and took pictures of tents and barns. It is worth mentioning that the Israeli occupation army demolished Khirbat Hamsa four times this month alone, in addition to the massive destruction and displacement carried out by the soldiers in early November of last year, 2020, displacing more than 85 Palestinians, including 35 children. Israeli Occupation Army Fires Live Rounds At Farmers In Southern Gaza IMEMC, FEB 22, 2021 Israeli occupation soldiers, stationed across the perimeter fence, fired many live rounds, on Monday morning, at Palestinian farmers on their lands, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Eyewitnesses said the soldiers, on military towers and in tanks, fired many live rounds and a few concussion grenades, targeting the farmlands and the farmers, forcing the Palestinians to leave in fear of further escalation. They added that the Palestinians were tending to their lands near the perimeter fence when the soldiers attacked them with live fire. The attack is one of the numerous Israeli violations against the Palestinians, especially the farmers, workers, and shepherds, in addition to the fishermen, in the besieged and impoverished Gaza Strip. Local sources said the soldiers abducted Khadija Khweiss, 43, while she was walking near Bab al-Asbat, and took her to an interrogation facility in Jerusalem. Khadija was interrogated for several hours and was released after the soldiers handed her an order denying her access to Al-Aqsa Mosque and its surrounding areas for one week. She is one of many Palestinian women who have been frequently abducted, detained, and interrogated by the Israeli army and the police for nonviolently protesting the ongoing invasions and violations by the soldiers and the colonialist settlers into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. During these invasions, the army and the police assault the Palestinian worshipers and force them away from the holy site, and its courtyards, to facilitate the provocative tours carried out by illegal colonialists. In related news, the soldiers invaded a home, owned by members of the Seder family in Bab Hotta, and interrogated the family while searching the property. Local nonviolent activist, Ibrahim Awadallah, stated that the colonists invaded an orchard, owned by Fawzi Khalifa, before using chainsaws to cut more than seventy olive trees he planted at least ten years ago. He added that the invaded orchard is in ‘Orouq Zneid area, in the southern part of al-Walaja. Awadallah stated that the village has been subject to frequent violations by the soldiers and the colonialist settlers. The violations include cutting and uprooting trees, bulldozing farmlands, in addition to demolishing homes and structures, and issuing demolition orders. They added that four young men, who were in the car, were injured after the army jeep rammed it, and were moved to a hospital in Ramallah for treatment. Beit Dajan has become a scene for weekly protests against the Israeli authorities’ expansion of colonial settlements onto Palestinian-owned land. Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Occupied Palestinian
Territory (oPt) | Protection of Civilians report. On 5 February, an Israeli settler shot and killed a 34-year-old Palestinian near a newly-constructed settlement outpost next to the village of Ras Karkar (Ramallah); Israeli military sources said that he had tried to break into a house in the outpost. Subsequent clashes in his village (Ras Karkar) resulted in the injury of one Palestinian and one Israeli soldier. Another Palestinian, aged 25, was killed in Nuba (Hebron), when an unexploded ordnance he found near his house exploded. Seventy-one Palestinians and four Israeli soldiers were injured in clashes across the West Bank. Thirty of the Palestinian injuries were treated for tear gas inhalation on 12 February, in a protest against demolitions and confiscations in Humsa – Al Bqai’a. Twenty-seven Palestinians were injured in protests against the establishment of three settlement outposts on land belonging to residents of Kafr Malik, Deir Jarir, Ras at Tin, and Al Mughayyir, in Ramallah, and another one on Beit Dajan land in Nablus, and against settlement expansion in Kafr Qaddum (Qalqiliya) and Salfit. Seven Palestinians were injured in clashes that erupted during search-and-arrest operations in the refugee camps of Ad Duheisha (Bethlehem) and Jenin, and in Jaba’ village (also in Jenin). Another three were injured while reportedly attempting to cross into Israel through breaches in the Barrier in the Jenin area. Two were injured after Israeli forces intervened during clashes with Israeli settlers in Al Lubban ash Sharqiya (Nablus), and two others in unclear circumstances, near Silwad village (Ramallah). Fifty-one of those injured were treated for tear gas inhalation, ten were hit by rubber bullets, six were shot by live ammunition and the remaining five were physically assaulted or hit by tear gas canisters. Four Israeli soldiers were injured during a search-and-arrest operation in Beituniya (Ramallah). Israeli forces carried out 186 search-and-arrest operations and arrested 172 Palestinians across the West Bank. The governorates of Jerusalem, Ramallah and Hebron were the most affected (on average 28 operations each). In one of the incidents, in Hebron, Israeli forces raided the city hall and detained employees who worked on the night shift; doors and furniture were reportedly broken. In Gaza, on at least 28 occasions, Israeli forces opened warning fire near the perimeter fence on the border, or off the coast, presumably to enforce access restrictions. On another three occasions, Israeli forces conducted land levelling near the fence. Following a closure of more than two months, the Egyptian-controlled Rafah crossing with Gaza was opened on 1 February for four consecutive days, in both directions. On 9 February, the Egyptian authorities announced that the crossing would open in both directions indefinitely. Since the beginning of February, 6,373 exits and 3,520 entries have been recorded. Citing the lack of building permits, 89 Palestinian-owned structures were demolished or seized, displacing 146 people, of whom 83 were children, and otherwise affecting at least 330. On 3 and 8 February, the Israeli authorities demolished 37 structures, most of which were donated, in Humsa – Al Bqai’a community in the Jordan Valley. Sixty people, including 35 children, were displaced on each occasion. The community, most of which is located in an area designated for Israeli military training, has been subject to multiple mass demolitions in recent months. A UN statement issued on 5 February warned that pressure on the community to move raises a real risk of forcible transfer. In south Hebron, seven structures, including mobile latrines, were seized in the communities of Ar Rakeez, Umm al Kheir and Khirbet at Tawamin, affecting the living conditions and livelihoods of 80 people. In addition, in Al Jalama (Jenin), the livelihoods of about 70 people were affected as a result of the demolition of 13 beverage stalls. Seven structures were demolished in East Jerusalem, including four by their owners who wished to avoid fines; a family of four was displaced. In addition, the Israeli authorities demolished, on punitive basis, a home in Tura al Gharbiya village (Jenin), displacing 11 people, including four children. The house belonged to the family of a Palestinian who was indicted for killing an Israeli woman in December. Last year, seven structures were demolished on similar grounds. The Israeli authorities uprooted 1,000 saplings near the city of Tubas, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture. They were planted in response to the uprooting of thousands of trees last month in the same area, on the grounds that the land had been declared ‘state land.’ Perpetrators known or believed to be Israeli settlers injured four Palestinians, including a child, and damaged Palestinian-owned properties, including trees. Three Palestinians were physically assaulted in two separate clashes with Israeli settlers in the village of Al Lubban ash Sharqiya (Nablus). A boy, aged 13, was physically assaulted in the Israeli-controlled area of Hebron city (H2). A foreign volunteer was stoned and injured in Susiya village (Hebron), and other foreign and local volunteers were attacked and robbed in As Samu’ village by perpetrators believed to be settlers. According to Palestinian sources, over 130 olive trees and saplings were uprooted or cut down in the communities of Khirbet Sarra (Nablus), Bruqin and Kafr ad Dik (Salfit), in At Tuwani and Bir al ‘Idd (Hebron), and in Al Janiya (Ramallah). Some 180 fence poles were stolen in Bruqin. In addition, an agricultural structure was damaged in Beit Dajan and a vehicle was set on fire in Qusra (both in Nablus). Another vehicle was stoned and damaged while travelling near Bet El settlement (Ramallah). In Qawawis, a shepherd reported the death of seven of his sheep from poisonous material that he believes had been sprayed by settlers from the nearby Mitzpe Yair settlement who, he says, repeatedly attack him while he grazes his sheep. In another incident in the area of Ein ar Rashrash in Ramallah, a shepherd reported that a vehicle believed to be driven by settlers had hit and killed two of his sheep. Perpetrators believed to be Israeli settlers reportedly damaged a surveillance camera and a lock in the Romanian Orthodox Church in East Jerusalem. Two Israelis, including a 14-year-old girl and a woman, were injured by perpetrators believed to be Palestinians while travelling on West Bank roads, according to Israeli sources. Thirty Israeli-plated vehicles were reportedly damaged, mainly when hit by stones.
