989 Syrians Killed in December 2019, Scores Killed in Russian and Regime Attacks, on the First Day of 2020

Syrian regime’s first massacre in 2020: Four children among six people killed in Idlib today.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of six civilians including a female teacher and four children, in a massacre by regime rocket shelling on Sarmin town in the eastern countryside of Idlib.

The death toll is expected to increase due to the presence of injuries some of whom are in serious conditions.

In connection to this, regime warplanes carried out several raids this afternoon, on Khan Al-Sabil town in the southern countryside of Idlib.

SOHR monitored hours ago, that Russian warplanes targeted the vicinity of Idlib city with more than 22 air strikes after midnight Tuesday – Wednesday, where the area includes the Central Prison of Idlib, which has been hit before by Russian air strikes. No casualties has been reported yet.

The opposition factions shelled after midnight regime-held areas in Jurin, Shatha al-Aziziya, Al-Rasif and Al-Jid in Sahl Al-Ghab in the northwestern countryside of Hama.

Nearly 25 civilians killed or injured in regime shelling on Sarmin town

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented more casualties in the massacre by the regime forces in Sarmin town in the eastern countryside of Idlib. Accordingly, the number of civilians who were killed due to the fall of surface-to-surface missiles on a school and other positions in the town, rose to eight including tow females and four children.

The shelling also left more than 16 injuries some of whom have seriously injured, which may rise the death toll.

More than 22 Russian air strikes hit Idlib city

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Russian warplanes targeted the vicinity of Idlib city with more than 22 air strikes after midnight Tuesday – Wednesday, where the area includes the Central Prison of Idlib, which has been hit before by Russian air strikes, the human toll of these air strikes is not yet clear.

The opposition factions shelled after midnight regime-held areas in Jurin, Shatha al-Aziziya, Al-Rasif and Al-Jid in Al-Ghab plain in the northwestern countryside of Hama, while regime forces shelled areas in villages located in rural Maarat al-Numan, the shelling took place in Talmenes, Maar Shamsheh, Maar Shorin, Masaran, Maraat Al Numan, Al Deir Al Sharqi and Al Deir Al Gharbi.

A regime officer among 13 members of regime and factions killed in today’s clashes in Hama and Idlib

An officer was killed and other four regime soldiers were injured due to rocket and artillery shelling by rebel factions on villages and towns in Sahl Al-Ghab today evening.

In connection to this, several artillery shells fell on Al-Zahraa neighborhood in Aleppo city. Meanwhile the regime forces shelled positions of the factions in the vicinity of Aleppo city.

HTS also targeted positions of regime soldiers and loyalists in Al-Tah town with artillery.

Other factions targeted positions of the regime forces in Khan Shaykhun city in rural Idlib, and Asilah and Jib Ramla towns in the western countryside of Hama with missiles.

The Syrian Observatory has documented four raids by Russian warplanes targeted Maarshmarin town, after more than 24 hours of aerial operations cessation.

At the same time regime forces stationed in Idlib fired artillery shells and missiles on tal Mannas, Khan Al-Sabil, Kafr Nubl, Hazarin, Maarrat Al-Nu’man, Kansafra, Deir Sharqi and other areas in rural Maarrat Al-Nu’man. They also shelled Saraqib town with missiles loaded with cluster bombs.

SOHR documented today, the killing of four regime soldiers in clashes against rebel factions in one of frontline areas in the vicinity of Abu Dafnah village in the eastern countryside of Idlib. Other two regime soldiers were killed after being targeted by a guided missile in Jarjnaz town.

On the other hand, three fighters of rebel factions were killed in the same areas, in addition to the killing of three other fighters in shelling and clashes against the regime soldiers and loyalists in Al-Zahraa and Al-Rashideen west of Aleppo city.

With the fall of more casualties, it rose to at least 1329, the number of people who were killed since the last agreement of “Putin – Erdogan” on the 31st of August 2019, the date of start of the most violent escalation in terms of aerial and ground bombardment, shelling, and targeting since Putin – Erdogan agreement, until today, and they are: 313 civilians including 83 children and 62 citizen women, and they are 140 including 43 children and 24 women were killed in Russian aerial bombardment on the countryside of Idlib and Hama, and 21 including 3 women and 7 children were killed in the fall of barrel bombs, and 61 including 7 children 13 women were killed in targeting by regime’s warplanes, also 77 people including 20 women and 21 children were killed in a ground shelling carried out by the regime forces, and 14 citizens including 5 children and 2 women were killed in shelling by the factions on regime forces’-controlled areas in Aleppo and its countryside and the countryside of Hama, while at least 489 fighters were killed in the Russian airstrikes and the regime’s aerial and ground shelling including 351 of the Jihadis, in addition to killing of 527 members of the regime forces in targeting and shelling by jihadi groups and factions.

December 2019: 10,000 air and ground strikes, 13 massacres, five car-bomb attacks, and 989 people killed

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 989 people in December 2019, as follows: Civilian death toll: 279 persons, including 64 children under the age of 18, and 42 women over the age of 18 distributed as follows:

67 civilians, including 21 children and 12 women, killed in Russian warplane bombing, 46 civilians, including four children under the age of 18 and nine women over the age of 18, killed by warplanes.

17 persons, including six children under the age of 18 and three civilians over the age of 18 killed by the regime’s helicopter strikes.

30 civilians, including ten women and eight children killed in shelling and gunfire by regime forces, 25 civilians died under torture in regime forces prisons, two persons killed as a result of the shelling of opposition factions, a woman and a child killed by SDF gunfire.

Three people, including a woman killed by the Turkish border guards, and two persons killed during the military operation “Peace Spring”, a man and a child killed by HTS, a child who died due to poor health conditions in Al-Hol camp.

Four civilians, including tow women killed in unknown circumstances, six civilians killed by the “Islamic State”, and 23 civilians, including ten children, and a woman who died in IEDs and landmines.

18 civilians, including three children killed in a booby-trapped explosions, ten civilians, including eight children killed by Turkish forces, 21 civilians, including a child, and three women killed in separate assassinations in Syrian territory.

The Syrian Observatory documented that Russian and Syrian warplanes, helicopters and regime forces carried out 9,196 air and ground strikes, which killed 148 civilians, including 37 children under the age of 18, and 30 women over the age of 18.

Russian “guarantor” aircraft carried out 546 air strikes, killing 67 civilians, including 21 children under the age of 18, and 12 women over 18.

The regime warplanes carried out 431 strikes, killing 46 civilians, including four children and nine women. The regime’s helicopters also dropped 549 barrel bombs, killing 17 civilians, including six children and three women. Regime forces targeted the “de-escalation” zone with 7,670 shells and missiles, killing 18 civilians, including six children and six women.

The conflicting forces also committed 13 massacres in December 2019, in which 94 citizens, including 27 children under the age of 18, and 20 women over the age of 18 were massacred as follows:

Five massacres carried out by “Russian guarantor” aircraft in which 34 civilians were killed, including 12 children under the age of 18, and five women over the age of 18.

Four massacres carried out by regime warplanes in which 27 civilians were killed, including a child under the age of 18, and seven women over the age of 18.

Three massacres carried out by regime forces in which 23 civilians were killed, including six children under the age of 18, and eight women over the age of 18.

A massacre carried out by Turkish forces in which ten people, including eight children under the age of 18 were killed.

Six booby-trapped bombs also hit Turkish-held areas, killing 20 people, including two fighters, 15 civilians and three children.

The Islamic State and its sleeper cells carried out at least 20 targets in December, killing 60 people: seven civilians, 11 fighters of SDF, 20 soldiers of regime forces, 15 members of regime forces loyalists, and six Iranian militiamen.

Despite all the attempts to find solutions, and the displacement, and the manipulation of the Syrians future, and the UNSC resolution and truces, and despite the low intensity of killing due to the international desire to seek a solution, however, the bloodshed continues on the Syrian territory and the killing and fighting continues without peace, and the cease-fire truces was only breaks between the sides of the conflict in Syria, where some parties were winners and others lost influence and control, so, we at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, we call for the international parties once again to work hard and make their utmost efforts to stop the bloodshed of the Syrian people, who faced tyranny and injustice to reach a state of justice, democracy, freedom and equality.

The Syrian Observatory renew its commitment to continue monitoring and documenting the massacres, violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people, in addition to publishing the statistics and causalities of those practices in order to stop these crimes, violations and atrocities against the Syrian people, and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to special international courts, so that they do not escape punishment for the crimes they committed against the people who was and still dream to achieve a state of democracy, freedom, justice and equality for all components of the Syrian people.
