1,520 Syrians Killed in Attacks, in August 2019, Drone Attacks on Russian Humeimim Military Airbase September 4, 2019 Editor's Note: The following news stories are just examples of the daily horrors of war in Syria. The following are news stories from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) website (http://www.syriahr.com/en/): *** Drones attack Hmeimim Military Airbase in Jableh and the Russian air defenses intercept them SOHR, 03/09/2019 Latakia Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: Several explosion were heard in Jableh city in Latakia countryside as the Russian air defenses in Hmeimim Airbase intercepted drones in the skies of the area, without information about casualties. And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 11th of August 2019, that several explosions were heard today evening in Jableh city in the countryside of Latakia, they were caused by an attack by drones that targeted “Hmeimim Airbase” the largest Russian military airbase in Syria, where the Russian air defenses intercepted them, without information about casualties. And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 12th of July 2019, that Several explosions shook after midnight of yesterday Jableh area in Latakia countryside, it was caused by a new attack by drones on the main base of the Russians in Syria –Hmeimim Airbase– where the Russian air defenses countered them and the Syrian Observatory has not received any casualties so far, and the Syrian Observatory published on the 26th of June 2019 that several violent explosions were heard in Jableh area in Latakia countryside after midnight of yesterday, they were caused by a drone attack targeted Hmeimim airbase, the largest military base of the Russians in Syria, where the Air defenses responded to the attacks, but no information about casualties yet, also a similar attack was carried out on the airport on the 19th of May 2019, while the Syrian Observatory published that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored massive explosions hit Jableh area dawn of today, Saturday, the 18th of May 2019. It turned out to be caused by an attack of drones and missiles at Hmeimim Airbase, which is taken by the Russian forces as their major military base in Syria, coincided with the interception by the Russian defenses to this new ground and aerial attack by the jihadi groups, but no information about casualties until now, and in the same context, more than 15 rocket shells were launched by the jihadi groups at dawn and morning of today targeted the villages of al-Sharashir, al-Hwaiz, and other places in the countryside of Jableh city causing casualties, where a member of the regime forces was killed in Sharashir and others were injured in both villages, while the Syrian Observatory published on the 6th of May 2019 that new explosions shook after midnight of yesterday and dawn of today Jableh area in the countryside of Latakia province, and sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that the explosions were caused by a new missile targeting by the jihadi groups for Hmeimim airbase, which is the largest base of Russia within the Syrian territory, where the Russian defenses intercepted the missiles, and some of them landed on the surrounding agricultural lands and the villages of al-Qbiseh and Bkhadramu, but no information about casualties yet, and the Syrian Observatory published on the 2nd of May 2019 that violent explosions shook Jableh area in the countryside of Latakia province on the dawn of the 2nd second day of May 2019, and sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that the explosions were caused by missile targeting by the jihadi groups for Hmeimim Airbase -the largest Russian base in Syria,- where the Russian defenses intercepted the missiles and no information until now about human or material losses, and this is the third targeting of its kind within 7 days, and in the same context, the Syrian Observatory monitored the fall of some missiles launched by the Jihadi groups on the countryside of Jableh city and its outskirts which caused casualties, where a person was killed and four others were injured including 2 women. The Syrian Observatory published on the 28th of April 2019, that the violent Explosions shook at dawn of Sunday Jableh area in the countryside of Latakia province, several intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the explosions were caused by targeting by the air defenses for drones which were trying to target Hmeimim Airbase, the largest Russian military base in Syria, but no information about the volume of losses until the moment, and this attack comes after a similar attack too k place about 48 hours ago, where the Syrian Observatory published on Monday morning that violent explosions were heard in Jableh area in the countryside of Latakia at dawn on Friday, the 26th of April 2019, and the intersecting sources confirmed that the explosions were caused by missile targeting by Jihadi groups at Hmeimim military airfield, where the Russian Forces use of as their major military base in Syria, where the airport’s defenses intercepted the missiles which tried to target the largest military base of the Russians in Syria, but no information yet about the material damage or casualties after this targeting, which comes after about 3 months of the last targeting, where the Syrian Observatory published on the 27th of January 2019 that explosions were heard in Jableh area in Latakia countryside, and several intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that the explosions were caused by targeting by the air defenses for unidentified objects in the airspace of Hmeimim Airbase, which is the largest Russian military base in Syria, it is believed that the air defenses targeted a drone while it was trying to target the airbase, but the material damage or losses caused by the attack were not known. This comes after about two months for the last targeting of Hmeimim area, where the Syrian Observatory published on the 28th of November 2018 that explosions rocked Jableh area in Latakia countryside, intersected sources informed the Syrian Observatory that it was caused by targeting by the air defenses to a drone that was flying in the airspace of Hmeimim Military Airbase, which is taken by the Russian forces as their main base on the Syria territory, where this is the first attack since the 29th of July 2018, and it is also the 18th attack since the start of attacks by drones on Hmeimim Military Airbase in early 2018, while this attack comes about 36 hours after several explosions which shook the southeastern countryside of Homs after midnight of Tuesday – Wednesday, they were caused by aerial attacks by drones that targeted al-Shayrat airbase, which is under the control of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them in the area, amid targeting by the air defenses for these drones, but no information yet about casualties, and this is the first time that al-Shayrat airbase goes under to attacks of this kind. And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 6th of August 2018, that between the visit of one of the most prominent sponsors in Syria and between Sochi conference which complements the series of Astana meetings; rounds of alert and aerial attacks followed by calm prevail Hmeimim Airbase in Jableh area in the countryside of the coastal province of Latakia, and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored calm in Hmeimim Airbase area, in conjunction with the round of “Astana 10”, which is taking place in the Russian city of Sochi, between delegations of the opposition and the regime and in the presence of the Russians, Iranians, and the Turks, which is considered a continuation of the calm of that has been prevailing the area since the 29th of July 2018, the date of the last aerial attack on Hmeimim Airbase. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented 17 attacks carried out through drones, some of which were able to target Hmeimim Airbase and cause material damage and destruction in equipment, but others failed as a result of the targeting by the air defenses that are responsible for the protection and security of the Airbase, and among the total number of attacks there are at least 13 attacks targeted the Airbase during July 2018, while the early targeting was on the 6th of January 2018, also missile shelling targeted the Airbase area in late December 2017 after the visit of Putin for the area on 11th of December 2017, during which he met the Russian officers supervising the military operations in Syria, and also met the Syrian president, and attending a military parade inside the Airbase, also sources suggested that this calm in Hmeimim Airbase area is linked to the process of pushing Russia to the negotiating table, and securing a negotiable climate with better terms, even though the opposing factions did not claim responsibility of any aerial attack, despite the Russian accusations against opposition factions in Idlib and Latakia mountains, of carrying out these attack to destabilize and disperse the Russian Forces and to put them on successive alerts within the Airbase area, and within areas of presence of the Russian Forces in other areas. *** Cautious calm continues during the 4th day of the ceasefire agreement within “Putin – Erdogan” area interrupted by some rocket shells on the area SOHR, 03/09/2019 Activists of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the fall of several rocket shells on areas in Kafr Nubl and Hass in the southern countryside of Idlib, in addition to several rocket shells through which the regime forces targeted the area of Zammar in the southern countryside of Aleppo, other than that, cautious calm is prevailing the “de-escalation” zone during the 4th day of the ceasefire new agreement in the area, and the SOHR published this morning that the new ceasefire entered its 4th day in a row with continuous cautious and relative calm within the entire area of “Putin-Erdogan,” which is stretching from the northeastern mountains of Latakia to the northwestern suburbs of Aleppo city, and passes through the countryside of Hama and Idlib, interrupted by exchanged artillery and missile shelling every now and then, the Syrian Observatory monitored targeting after midnight of yesterday by the regime forces using several rocket shells against places in Ma’aret Hurmah, Rakaya, and Kafrsajna in the southern countryside of Idlib, and Kabani area in the northern countryside of Latakia, also warplanes of the Russian “guarantor” and the regime continue to be absent from the “de-escalation” area since Saturday morning the 31st of August 2019. And with the fall of more casualties, it rose to at least 4114, the number of people who were killed since the 30th of April 2019, the date of start of the most violent escalation in terms of aerial and ground bombardment, shelling, and targeting since Putin – Erdogan agreement, until the 2nd of September 2019, and they are: 1048 civilians including 261 children and 186 citizen women, and they are 226 including 44 children and 43 women, and 8 of the civil defense and 5 of the ambulance team were killed in Russian aerial bombardment on the countryside of Idlib and Hama, and 88 including 19 women and 15 children were killed in the fall of barrel bombs, and 539 including 154 children, 91 women, and 5 members of the rescue teams were killed in targeting by regime’s warplanes, also 115 people including 20 women and 21 children were killed in a ground shelling carried out by the regime forces, and 80 citizens including 26 children and 14 women were killed in shelling by the factions on al-Suqaylabiyah, Qamhana, Al-Rasif, Al-Aziziyah, Karnaz, Jurin, Al-Nairab Camp, neighborhoods in Aleppo city and its southern countryside, while at least 1667 fighters were killed in the Russian airstrikes and the regime’s aerial and ground shelling including 1087 of the Jihadis, in addition to killing of 1399 members of the regime forces in targeting and shelling by jihadi groups and factions. And during the period between the 15th of February 2019; the date of the meeting of “Rouhani – Erdogan – Putin” until the 1st of September 2019, and Syrian Observatory documented the death of 4639 people in the Russian – Turkish truce areas, they are 1331 civilians including 342 children under the age of eighteen and 250 women over the age of eighteen, they were killed in the Russian aerial bombardment and the rocket shelling by the regime forces and the factions, and among the death toll of civilians there are 106 people including 31 children under the age of eighteen and 18 citizen women over the age of eighteen, they were killed in the fall of shells launched by the factions, and 1753 fighters were killed in different conditions within the demilitarized area since Putin – Erdogan agreement, including 1122 fighters of the “Jihadis” and 1555 of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them. While the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented since the start of the Russian – Turkish truce the death of 4870 people in areas of Erdogan – Putin agreement, they are: 1414 civilians including 371 children and 264 women, were killed in shelling by the regime forces and the militiamen loyal to them, targeting, and bombardment by warplanes, and among them there are 107 people including 31 children and 19 women, were killed in the fall of shells launched by the factions, and 1820 fighters were killed in deferent circumstances within the demilitarized area since Putin – Erdogan agreement, including 1224 of the “Jihadi” fighters, and 1636 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them. *** In the highest monthly death toll in 17 months, 1520 people were killed in August 2019 SOHR, 01/09/2019 The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 1520 people in August 2019, and they were distributed as follows: Civilian casualties: 231 people including 59 children under the age of eighteen, and 26 women over the age of eighteen, and they were killed as follows: 77 citizens including 13 children and 8 women were killed in bombardment by Russian warplanes. 66 citizens including 25 children and 13 women were killed in bombardment by regime’s warplanes. 25 citizens including 5 children and 3 were killed in bombardment by helicopters. 13 citizens including 3 children and 1 citizen woman were killed in shelling by the regime forces. 5 citizens including 1 child and 1 citizen woman were killed by the factions. 4 citizens were killed under torture in the prisons of the regime forces. 13 people including 7 children were killed in mine and IED explosions. 5 citizens including 1 child were killed by the Turkish border guards. 7 citizens were killed in assassinations in several areas of Syria. 10 citizens including 4 children were killed in the explosion of booby-trapped vehicles. 6 citizens were killed in unknown circumstances. Syrian fighters of Islamic and repel factions and other movements and organizations: 246 The Syria Democratic Forces: 18 The regime forces: 253 Members of the Popular Committees, and the National Defense Forces, and militiamen loyal to the regime forces of Syrian nationalities: 247 Fighters of the Lebanese Hezbollah: 3 Fighters loyal to the regime forces of non-Syrian nationalities mostly of the Shiite sect: 18 Unidentified people: 1 Fighters of Islamic and repel factions and ISIS and Nusra Front (Qaeda organization of the Levant), and Mujahedeen and al-Ansar Army and Islamic Turkestan Party of non-Syrian nationalities: 502 And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented 5 massacres during August 2019, which claimed the lives of 45 civilian casualties including 22 children under the age of eighteen and 7 citizen women over the age of eighteen, where regime’s warplanes committed 4 massacres and killed 25 citizens including 3 women over the age of eighteen and 13 children under the age of eighteen, and the Russian warplanes carried out 1 massacre and claimed the lives of 15 citizens including 4 women over the age of eighteen and 6 children under the age of eighteen, while the “Islamic State” Organization committed 1 massacre by detonating a booby-trapped vehicle in Al-Hasakah countryside and killed 5 citizens including 3 children under the age of eighteen. Despite the conferences calling for dialogue and solution, and the UNSC resolution and the unreal truces, the bloodshed continues on the Syrian territory and the killing and fighting continues without peace, and the cease-fire truces are only breaks between the conflicting parties in Syrian, where some parties were winners and others lost influence and control, so, we in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reiterates our calls for the international parties to do their utmost efforts to stop the bloodshed of the Syrian people, who faced tyranny and injustice to reach a state of justice, democracy, freedom and equality, and we the Syrian Observatory pledge to continue to monitor and document the massacres, violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people, in addition to the publication of statistics about them in order to stop the perpetration of these crimes, violations and atrocities against the Syrian people, and to refer the perpetrators of these violations to the concerned courts of the state, so as not to escape their punishment for the crimes they committed against the people who was and still dream of having a state of democracy, freedom, justice and equality for all components of the Syrian people. *** Share the link of this article with your facebook friendsFair Use Notice This site contains copyrighted material the
