The Guardian: Saudi-Emirati statement an attempt to cover up differences and may not have an impact on southern Yemen

September 10, 2019, almasdaronline-agencies ١٠ ÓÈÊãÈÑ ٢٠١٩

The British Newspaper The Guardian downplayed the importance of the joint statement of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, in which they affirmed their support for the legitimate government in Yemen and calling for an immediate halt to military operations and media campaigns, likely to have no impact on the ground in southern Yemen.

The Guardian said the statement by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates is an attempt to cover up the growing differences and disparities between Yemen’s two allies.

The newspaper added that there is no guarantee that the Joint Saudi-UAE appeal, which took place four days after the Jeddah meetings, "will be carried out on the ground in Aden, the scene of the worst fighting.""

The Guardian said in its Monday edition that the joint statement is not clear whether it aims to end the five-year-old division in Yemen, or will end the fighting between the Saudi-backed government and the UAE-backed Transitional Council.

The newspaper pointed out that the positions of the two countries have varied since their intervention in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia was "determined to weaken the Houthi rebels in the north, fearing an Iranian presence on its border with Yemen, “while the interests of the United Arab Emirates focus on controlling the port of Aden and not subservience to the Houthis.

The newspaper stressed that the conflict of priorities between Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Yemen, reduced military pressure on the Houthis, as well as influenced Washington's strategy in the Gulf and its policy toward Iran, pointing out the impact of Saudi Arabia’s position and the UAE in the administration.

According to the newspaper, al-Transitional's control over southern Yemen is enough to achieve the UAE's goals, but this will be at the expense of dividing Yemen and Saudi Arabia' goals.

Hajjah. Army forces repel two Houthi attacks in Haradh and Abbs

September 10, 2019, ALMASDARONLINE ٠٩ ÓÈÊãÈÑ ٢٠١٩

On Monday morning, the legitimate government forces in the 5th military region repelled simultaneous attacks by Houthi militias on national army positions in both Haradh and Abbs districts in northern Hajjah province.

A military source said that Houthi militia men carried out a violent attack in the early hours of the morning on army positions in the village of Al-Osaila, west of the town of Haradh with a similar attack on the army positions east of the village of Al-Khadima in Bani Hassan, Abbs district.

The source said the fierce clashes between the two sides used various weapons after repelling the attacks, stressing that the army forces were able to force the Houthi militias to retreat, leaving behind the dead and wounded of their fighters and various weapons.

Last week, the National Army forces liberated large areas west of Haradh city to the western neighborhoods of the city following a large-scale military operation launched by the 5th Military Zone to liberate the city of Haradh.

Mohammad Al-Houthi Criticizes French Foreign Minister Remarks on Yemen

Last updated Sep 9, 2019

YemenExtra, M.A.

Member of the Supreme Political Council, Mohammad Ali Al-Houthi, responded to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian’s remarks on the strikes of the Yemeni Army and Popular Committees on Saudi military sites.

French Foreign Minister called the Yemeni army strikes as an attack and described Yemeni attacks on Saudi military sites as “intolerable”, claiming that Saudi Arabia was a victim of Yemeni airstrike that hit its airports. Without mentioning hundred thousands of raids that are launched by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia on the Yemeni civilians since 2015.

On Twitter, Mohammad Al-Houthi wrote midnight Sunday: “Did describing the war on Yemen as dirty by French Foreign Minister, in a previous television interview express his personal conviction? While his new statement to the media (today) express the official position of France? As it officially announced its participation in the US-Saudi coalition aggression and its allies in Yemen”.

“The politician should not contradictory,” Al-Houthi continued. “Or did he change his mind for money? “

US aides UAE’s role in Yemen with on hand , refuses it with the other hand

The UAE’s legitimacy in Yemen is the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2216, which calls for the return of the so-called legitimate government and the preservation of the unity of Yemen,” former US ambassador, Gerald Feierstein said on Twitter.

“The US diplomat pointed out that the issue of government in Yemen or secession is decided by the Yemenis themselves, not the UAE. “Any work of the UAE in Yemen outside 2216 is illegal,”, responding to the former son of Zayed’s advisor Abdulkhaliq Abdullah, who accuses the Yemeni government of betraying the coalition and corruption.

The White House administration has yet to announce a clear stance on the Aden coup and separatist control of the city, and the remarks have been left to second-class diplomats.

In March 2015, the US -backed –Saudi-led coalition started  a war against Yemen with the declared aim of crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who had taken over from the staunch Riyadh ally and fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, while also seeking to secure the Saudi border with its southern neighbor. Three years and over 600,000 dead and injured Yemeni people and  prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country, the war has yielded little to that effect.

Despite the coalition claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

More than 2,200 others have died of cholera, and the crisis has triggered what the United Nations has described as the world’s worst humanitarian disaster.

Yemen charges France of this over the war on Yemen!

September 9, 2019

Member of the Supreme Political Council, Mohammad Ali Al-Houthi, responded to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian’s remarks on the strikes of the Yemeni army forces on Saudi military sites through claiming that Saudi Arabia was a victim of Yemeni airstrike that hit its airports without mentioning hundred thousands of raids that are launched by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia on the Yemeni civilians since 2015.

Britain, the US and France may be complicit in war crimes in Yemen by arming and providing support to a Saudi-led coalition that starves civilians as a war tactic, a Unaited Nations report has said.

A UN panel of experts has for the first time compiled a list of 160 military officers and politicians who could face war crimes charges, including from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Houthi rebel movement and Yemeni government military forces. A secret list of those most likely to be complicit has been sent to the UN.

The UN report will very likely be used as further evidence for those demanding that the British government end arms sales to Saudi for use in Yemen.

Newly-released figures show that France increased its weapons sales to Saudi Arabia by 50 percent last year despite growing international concern about the atrocities committed in the coalition’s war on Yemen.

An annual report by the French government showed that the country sold 1 billion euros’ worth of arms to Saudi Arabia in 2018, with the main item being patrol boats.

Earlier this year, a French rights group sought to block the loading of what it said were munitions onto a Saudi Arabian ship docked in southern France, as pressure mounts on Paris to stop military sales to the kingdom.

ACAT said in a statement it had filed a legal challenge to prevent the vessel from taking delivery of its cargo.

Notably,French authorities have been searching for a government employee who they believe has leaked damaging information about France’s role in the coalition’s war on Yemen to the media, a report says.

Disclose, an independent investigative media, published on April 15 a devastating report exposing France’s role in the Saudi-led coalition’s war crimes in Yemen. The coalition has massacred thousands of civilians in operations using weapons supplied by France, Britain, the United States and other countries. Yet top French officials continued to deny this in public, issuing bald-faced lies contradicted by their own intelligence briefings.

Above all, Germany should ease its strict arms export rules for countries outside the European Union to strengthen the defence industry, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said .

According to Reuters, France has complained that joint arms manufacturing projects are being stalled by Berlin’s refusal to authorise future arms export licences to Saudi Arabia, a major buyer.
