3 Palestinians Killed, Scores Injured in Gaza, Dozens Abducted and Attacked by Israeli Occupation Soldiers and Settlers in the West Bank

March 24, 2019

Editor's Note:

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of David, Solomon, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

The following news stories are just examples of the Israeli occupation government violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Palestinian Dies From Serious Wounds He Suffered In Gaza by Israeli Occupation Soldiers' Fire

March 24, 2019 8:46 AM IMEMC News

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the besieged Gaza Strip has reported, on Sunday at dawn, that a young man died from serious wounds he suffered, on Saturday at night, after Israeli occuption soldiers shot him in the northern part of the coastal region.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, has reported that the Palestinian has been identified as Habeeb al-Masri, 24.

He added that the Palestinian was shot during a protest near the perimeter fence, east of Beit Hanoun in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, after the soldiers targeted many protesters with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets and high-velocity gas bombs.

The Palestinian suffered a very serious injury after a soldier shot him with a live round in the chest, and was rushed to the Indonesian Hospital, in Jabalia, before he was moved to the Shifa Medical Center in Gaza city, due to the seriousness of his wounds.

Dr. al-Qedra said that, despite all efforts to save his life, the Palestinian succumbed to his wounds at dawn, Sunday. The soldiers also injured at least two other Palestinians with live fire and caused many to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.

Also at dawn, Israeli army drones fired missiles into several areas, east of Rafah, in southern Gaza, and east of the al-Boreij refugee camp, in central Gaza, causing damage.

The army claimed that the sirens were sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council of Settlements and added that some protesters flew flammable balloons which apparently exploded even before flying over the perimeter fence.

Israeli Occupation Forces Kill 2, Wound 181 Civilians in March of Return Protests in Gaza

March 23, 2019 1:02 AM IMEMC News

On Friday, 22 March 2019, in excessive use of forces against the peaceful protesters on the 51st Friday of the Great March of Return and Breaking Siege in the eastern Gaza Strip, Israeli occuption forces killed 2 Palestinian civilians and wounded 181 others, including 53 Children, 5 Women, 1 Paramedic, and 3 Journalists.  Three Injuries of those wounded were reported serious.

The two killed were identifed as Nedal ‘Abdel Karim Ahmed Shatat

(29), from al-Mughraqa in the central Gaza Strip, and Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah (24), from al-Shija’iyah neighborhood in Gaza City.

According to observations by PCHR’s fieldworkers, the Israeli forces who stationed in prone positions and in military jeeps along the fence with Israel continued to use excessive force against the protesters by opening fire and firing tear gas canisters at them.  As a result, dozens of protesters were hit with bullets and teargas canisters without posing any imminent threat or danger to the life of soldiers.

Moreover, PCHR’s fieldworkers said that the Israeli forces raised the sand berms on which the snipers station, particularly in eastern Khan Younis, enabling them to see clearly and completely the area where the protesters are spread and deep into the Return encampment.

These new violations come only hours after the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on accountability brought by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). The vote had 23 states voting in favor, 8 against and with 15 abstentions, condemning Israel’s “apparent intentional use of unlawful lethal and other excessive force” against civilian protesters in Gaza.  Thus, these incidents emphasize that the Israeli forces persist in its violation of the international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The vote follows a report by the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the violations committed in the oPt, on their findings and results during the period from 30 March to 31 December 2018.  The Commission concluded reasonable grounds to believe that the Israeli forces committed serious violations during the Great March of Return protests that may constitute war crimes or crimes against humanity.

On Friday, 22 March 2019, the incidents were as follows:

At approximately 15:00, thousands of civilians, including women, children and entire families, started swarming to the five encampments established by the Supreme National Authority of Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege adjacent to the border fence with Israel in eastern Gaza Strip cities. Hundreds, including children and women, approached the border fence with Israel in front of each encampment and gathered meters and tens of meters away from the main border fence, burning tires and attempting to throw stones at the Israeli forces. Although the protesters gathered in areas open to the Israeli snipers stationed on the top of the sand berms and military watchtowers and inside and behind the military jeeps, the Israeli forces fired live and rubber bullets in addition to a barrage of tear gas canisters. The Israeli shooting, which continued until at around 18:00, resulted the killing of 2 civilians:

Nedal ‘Abdel Karim Ahmed Shatat (29), from al-Mughraqa in the central Gaza Strip, was wounded at approximately 17:20 with a bullet that entered the left side of his chest and exited the right side when he was among the protesters around 50 meters away from the border fence, east of al-Bureij refugee camp.  At approximately 17:40, he arrived a dead body at Shuhaa’ al-Aqsa Hospital.

Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah (24), from al-Shija’iyah neighborhood in Gaza City, was wounded in eastern Shija’iyah and arrived at 16:50 at al-Shifaa’ Hospital, where his death was declared at 17:30.

The Israeli bullets and tear gas canisters wounded 181 Palestinian civilians, including 53 Children, 5 Women, 1 Paramedic, and 3 Journalists.  In addition, dozens of protesters, paramedics and journalists suffered tear gas inhalation and seizures due to tear gas canisters that were fired by the Israeli forces from the military jeeps and riffles in the eastern Gaza Strip. The Israeli forces targeted the medical field point in eastern Bureij Refugee Camp; as a result, one of the paramedics suffered tear gas inhalation.  A PRCS volunteer paramedic was also hit with a tear gas canister to his hand in eastern Jabalia. This indicates the Israeli systematic policy to target the medical personnel and obstruct their humanitarian work guaranteed with protection according to international humanitarian law.

The following table shows the number of civilian casualties due to the Israeli forces’ suppression of the Great March of Return since its beginning on 30 March 2018:

Killed Wounded
Total 196 11427
Children 41 2206
Women 2 344
Journalists 2 184
Medical Crews 3 181
Disabilities 8 undefined

Note:

Among those wounded, 537 are in serious condition and 114 had their lower or upper limbs amputated; 100 lower-limb amputations, 2 upper-limb amputations, 12 finger amputations and 25 children had their limbs amputated according to the Ministry of Health.  The number of those wounded only include those wounded with live bullets and directly hit with tear gas canisters, as there have been thousand others who suffered tear gas inhalation and sustained bruises.

PCHR emphasizes Palestinians’ right to peaceful assembly that is guaranteed by all International human rights instruments, stressing that the Israeli forces should stop using excessive force and respond to the legitimate demands of the demonstrators, particularly lifting the closure which is the real solution to end the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

PCHR emphasizes that continuously targeting civilians, who exercise their right to peaceful assembly or while carrying out their humanitarian duty, is a serious violation of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the ICC Rome Statute and Fourth Geneva Convention. Thus, PCHR reiterates its call upon the ICC Prosecutor to open an official investigation in these crimes and to prosecute and hold accountable all those applying or involved in issuing orders within the Israeli Forces at the security and political echelons.

PCHR also emphasizes that the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention should fulfill their obligation under Article 1; i.e., to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all circumstances and their obligations under Article 146 to prosecute persons alleged to commit grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

PCHR calls upon Switzerland, in its capacity as the Depository State for the Convention, to demand the High Contracting Parties to convene a meeting and ensure Israel’s respect for this Convention, noting that these grave breaches constitute war crimes under Article 147 of the same Convention and Protocol (I) Additional to the Geneva Conventions regarding the guarantee of Palestinian civilians’ right to protection in the occupied territories.

March 24, 2019 1:49 AM IMEMC News

Israeli occuption soldiers injured, on Saturday evening, several Palestinians, including one who suffered life-threatening wounds, during protests across the eastern parts of the besieged and improvised Gaza Strip.

Medical sources said the soldiers shot four Palestinians with live fire, east of Jabalia in northern Gaza Strip, and east of al-Boreij, in central Gaza, and added that one of the wounded Palestinians suffered life-threatening wounds.

They also said that several Palestinians suffered the severe effects of teargas inhalation, east of Rafah, in southern Gaza strip, and received the needed medical attention.

Also Saturday, The Israeli Airforce fired a missile at a motorcycle carrying three Palestinians, injuring all three.

On Friday, Israeli forces killed two Palestinian civilians, identified as Nidal ‘Abdel Karim Ahmed Shatat, 29, and Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah, 24, and wounded more than 180 during protests at the Gaza-Israel border.

Israeli Occupation Planes Fire Missile Toward Motorcycle, Injuring Three Palestinians, In Gaza

March 23, 2019 11:45 PM Celine Hagbard

The Israeli occuption airforce targeted a motorcycle carrying three Palestinians on Saturday, injuring all three, in Central Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian news agency Al Ray, a military aircraft targeted a motorcycle belonging to a citizen near Jaker Street, east of al- Boreij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip .

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that three wounded Palestinians were transported to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the central part of the Gaza Strip for treatment.

The al-Boreij camp is located in the central eastern part of the Gaza Strip, and is a frequent target of Israeli military attacks.

The targeting of the motorcycle comes one day after Israeli forces killed two Palestinian civilians, identified as Nedal ‘Abdel Karim Ahmed Shatat, 29, and Jihad Munir Khaled Hararah (24), and wounded more than 180 during protests at the Gaza-Israel border.

It is worth noting that the Israeli occupation forces systematically target communities near the border of the Gaza Strip, often under the pretext that Palestinian youth have been releasing balloons that cross the border with Israel.

Israeli Occupation Navy Injures Palestinian Father and Son Off Gaza Coast

March 23, 2019 3:26 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

A Palestinian fisherman, along with his son, were shot and injured by Israeli naval forces, off the northwestern coast of the besieged Gaza Strip, on Friday.

Head of the Palestinian Fishermen Union in Gaza, Zakariya Bakr, told Ma’an News Agency that the Israeli navy targeted a number of Palestinian fishing boats and opened heavy fire towards them, injuring one fisherman and his son.

Bakr identified the injured as Muhammad Saad Bakr and his son Mahmoud.

Bakr mentioned that Muhammad and his son were shot and injured with rubber-coated steel bullets; however, their medical condition remained unknown.

Bakr added that the Israeli navy repeatedly fired live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets.

In addition, the fishing boat suffered major material damages as a result of the Israeli navy shooting at the outboard engine.

According to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israel’s blockade of the coastal enclave has seriously undermined the ability for Gazan fishermen to make a living at sea.

The Israeli occuption army regularly detains and opens fire on unarmed Palestinian fishermen, shepherds, and farmers along the border areas if they approach the unilaterally declared buffer zone.

Israeli human rights group B’Tselem recently concluded that Israel’s Gaza closure and “harassment of fishermen” have been “destroying Gaza’s fishing sector,” with 95% of fishermen living below the poverty line.

Palestinian Shot by Israeli Occupation Army during Peaceful Kufr Qaddoum Protests

March 23, 2019 3:15 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

At least one Palestinian was shot an injured with a rubber-coated steel bullet as Israeli forces quelled the weekly and peaceful anti-settlement demonstration in the village of Kufr Qaddoum, to the east of Qalqilia, said a local activist.

Coordinator of the popular resistance committee in the village of Kufr Qaddoum, Murab Shtawi, said that Israeli forces violently suppressed demonstrators, who also rallied to protest Israel’s closure of the main road that has connected the village of Kufr Qaddoum with the city of Nablus since 2003.

Forces fired  live and rubber-coated steel bullets as well as tear gas canisters at demonstrators, shooting and injuring a 19-year-old Palestinian with a rubber-coated bullet to the head, which necessitated his transfer to hospital for medical treatment.

Forces also attacked journalists who were covering the protests, including French Agency photographer Jaafar Ishtayeh , photographer with the Chinese news agency, Nedal Ishtayeh, and Palestine TV cameraman, Mohammed Innayeh. No injuries were reported, however.

“Before 2003, the residents of Kufr Qaddum would use a shorter road to the east in order to come and go to nearby cities and villages. However, as the settlements expanded so that they overwhelmed the road, it became closed for Palestinian use, said Addameer Human rights Association, according to WAFA.

The only alternative road is roughly six times longer than the previous route, disrupting the villagers’ ability to attend university, their jobs, and other vital aspects of their economic and social well being, noted Addameer.

”Three Palestinian deaths relating to the road’s closure occurred between 2004 and 2005,” it said. Although Kufr Qaddum’s Popular Resistance Committee took their case to the Israeli High Court in 2003, the legal status of the road remains unchanged, stressed Addameer.

After all legal appeals failed, villagers decided to organize weekly demonstrations in July 2011, a step that was met with violent suppression by Israeli forces.
