Hundreds of Syrians Still Being Killed Despite Talks About Political Settlement, May 1, 2018 Editor's Note: The following news stories are just examples of the daily horrors of war in Syria. The following are news stories from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) website (http://www.syriahr.com/en/): *** Syrian Regime Airstrikes accompany the violent fighting between the regime forces and their allies against ISIS in the southern part of the capital Damascus SOHR, 30/04/2018 Damascus Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the warplanes renewed their bombardment this morning and yesterday after the midnight on places in Al-Hajar al-Aswad and the outskirts of Al-Tadamon in the southern part of the capital Damascus, in conjunction with the continuation of clashes between the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities against the “Islamic State” organization, in areas in the vicinity and outskirts of Yarmouk Camp, Al-Hajar al-Aswad and Al-Tadamon, accompanied by intensive rocket shelling, as a part of ongoing attacks by the regime forces within the military operation which they started on the 19th of April 2018. And the SOHR published yesterday that it obtained information from a number of reliable sources which confirmed to the SOHR that the Russian general who is in charge of the file of the south of Damascus and the southern Rif Dimashq, confirmed to those who meet with him, in the past 24 hours, that Russia approved on the decision of transferring those who refuse the agreement of the towns of Yalda, Beit Saham and Babilla, in the southern Rif Dimashq, before ending the file of the organization and its presence in the south of the capital, provided that the factions present in it with the regime forces to hand over the positions and points of concentration along with the exit, so that the organization would not carry out an attack on the area. More than 140 raids and explosive barrels leave 8 civilian casualties and tens of wounded in the northern countryside of Homs SOHR, 30/04/2018 Homs Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the continuation of the regime’s helicopters, warplanes and regime forces to carry out their artillery and rocket shelling on the northern countryside of Homs, where the SOHR documented more than 143 raids and explosive barrels which targeted Al-Rastan, Talbiseh, Al-Za’afaraneh, Ezz Al-Din, Al-Ghantu, Oyoun Hussein and other areas in the northern countryside of Homs, which resulted in a massacre in Al-Rastan city leaving 6 civilian casualties including a woman and her child in addition to 2 other women, raising the number of casualties to 8, they are 6 casualties in Al-Rastan including 3 women and a child, one person in Al-Ghantu and a woman in Ezz Al-Din village, and the shelling resulted in the fall of tens of wounded, some of whom are still in critical conditions, which may raise the death toll, while the factions targeted by several shells, areas in Al-Mushrifah town in the northern countryside of Homs controlled by the regime forces, which caused material damage, without information about casualties. And the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the start of the violent bombardment this morning, Monday the 30th of April 2018, which came after bringing large military reinforcements to both northern countryside of Homs and southern countryside of Hama, where the SOHR monitored that the regime forces have sent large military reinforcements of members, material, weapons and armored vehicles to the area, preparing for carrying out a military operation in the area aims to end the presence of the factions in the area and regain the control of the area by the regime forces. And the Syrian Observatory published yesterday morning that it monitored the ongoing aerial shelling on the northern countryside of Homs since after Saturday – Sunday midnight, where the warplanes carried out about 34 airstrikes on areas in Al-Makrmaia, Deir Al-Fol, Al-Zaafrana, Ezz Al-Din, Al-Humayrat, and places near Homs – Salmiya road, in conjunction with artillery and rocket shelling by the regime forces on areas in the northern countryside of Homs. The regime’s helicopters also dropped barrel bombs on areas in Al-Zaafrana town in the same countryside, killing a man guard working in Al-Zaafrana hospital. The shelling also left several people injured, and the SOHR monitored that several warplanes flying consecutively targeting every once and while areas in the countryside of Homs. 55 were killed (on April 25, 2018) including 9 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them and 11 persons It rose to 20, the number of persons who joined the convoy of casualties of the Syrian revolutionary on Friday (April 25, 2018). SOHR, 28/04/2018 In Damascus Province 19 citizens were killed, they are: 17 citizens including 7 children and 2 women were killed in aerial bombardment by regime’s warplanes, which targeted areas south of Damascus, and 2 citizens were killed in the fall of shells on places in Bayader Nader area in the vicinity of south of Damascus. In Daraa Province a girl from Tasil town was killed in a mine explosion in Sheikh Meskin area in the countryside of Daraa. Also the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 11 persons in the assassination on Friday, where unknown gunmen assassinated a member of a faction of the Tahrir Syria Movement at the outskirts of Msibin area in the eastern countryside of Idlib, which killed him, a woman and 4 of her children were killed by an IED explosion in a car in Arab al-Saeed village west of Maarat Mesrin town, also a fighter 2 former fighters of the Islamic Movement of Ahrar Al-Sham were killed by shooting in Neirab village northern of Idlib, while a person was killed by gunfire in al-Tah village in the countryside of Idlib, and a fighter of the faction was killed by shooting in Azaz city north of Aleppo, and a fighter of Jaysh al-Ezza was killed after being targeted by the bullets of unknown gunmen in Khan Shaykhun city. The Syrian Observatory also documented the killing of at least 79 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, as well as the killing of more than 68 members of the “Islamic State” organization in the shelling, clashes and targeting south of the capital Damascus And 4 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen were killed as a result of the shelling and clashes with the “Islamic State” organization and the factions. At least 6 fighters of the “Islamic State” organization and the factions of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in clashes and shelling of warplanes and helicopters and shelling on their areas of presence. 41 were killed (on April 24, 2018) including 12 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them and 17 civilians It rose to 2 including a fighter, the number of who joined the convoy of casualties of the Syrian revolutionary on Thursday (on April 24, 2018). In Hama Province a woman was killed in rocket shelling by the regime forces on Kafr Nabudah north of Hama. it has increased to 17, the number of persons who were killed as a result of the assassinations yesterday, Thursday in Idlib province, they are a person was killed after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Sarmada town in the north of Idlib, 2 of the security of “Ansar al-Tawhid” by shooting them in Khan Shaykhun city south of Idlib, also another security of Ahrar al-Sham Movement was killed after being shot on the road of Meshmeshan – Ein Souda in the countryside of Jisr al-Shughur city, also a security person of non-Syrian nationality was shot dead in Idlib city, also a fighter of the Turkistanis was killed after being shot in al-Qenyeh are east of Jisr Al-Shughur city, while a pharmacist was killed after being shot by unidentified persons in Jobas village south of Saraqib, also a member of Al-Sham Corps was killed after being shot at a checkpoint to in Talad village west of Aleppo, 3 Turkestan and Uzbek fighters believed to be of the Islamic Party of Turkestan, they were assassinated on the road between Millis and Armanaz in the north-western countryside of Idlib city, a young man was shot by unidentified gunmen which caused his death in Ibbin area, a local commander in Jaysh Al-Ahrar known as “Abu Salim Binnish” was assassinated by being shot in the north-eastern countryside of Idlib, also a local commander in Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham known as Abu Al-Ward Kafr Al-Batikh was assassinated in the same countryside. The Syrian Observatory also documented the killing of at least 74 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, as well as the killing of more than 59 members of the “Islamic State” organization in the shelling, clashes and targeting south of the capital Damascus And 6 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen were killed as a result of the shelling and clashes with the “Islamic State” organization and the factions. At least 4 fighters of the “Islamic State” organization and the factions of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in clashes and shelling of warplanes and helicopters and shelling on their areas of presence. *** The following are news stories from the US Department of Defense website (http://www.defense.gov/News) : *** US Military Strikes Hit ISIS Targets in Syria, Iraq April 27, 2018, SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve and its partners continued to strike Islamic State of Iraq and Syria targets in designated parts of Syria and Iraq between April 20-26, conducting 26 strikes consisting of 34 engagements, officials reported today. Strikes in Syria The following strikes took place in Syria: -- On April 25, coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets. Near Abu Kamal, three strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS weapons staging area. Near Shadaddi, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. -- On April 24, coalition military forces conducted five strikes consisting of six engagements against ISIS targets. Near Abu Kamal, four strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit, destroying three ISIS fighting positions and an ISIS vehicle and damaging a fighting position. Near Shadaddi, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS vehicle. -- On April 23, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes consisting of 12 engagements against ISIS targets. Near Abu Kamal, three strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed three ISIS vehicles. Near Shadaddi, six strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed five ISIS vehicles. -- On April 20 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets, destroying an ISIS fighting position and a motorcycle. Strikes in Iraq The following strikes took place in Iraq: On April 25, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets. Near Mosul, a strike destroyed an ISIS-held building. Near Huwayjah, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit.
