Hundreds of Syrians Killed Daily, in Attacks by Regime Forces, Faction Fighting, US-Led Air Strikes

The Increase of death toll in the Eastern Ghouta today and yesterday raises the overall toll to 931 casualties including 320 children and woman in 19 days

Rif Dimashq Province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the continuation of aerial and missile shelling in the Eastern Ghouta this evening, Thursday, where the helicopters dropped barrel bombs on areas in the towns of Hazza and Ein Tarma, while the regime forces shelled intensely places in Saqba, also the regime forces shelled areas in KafrBatna and Madyara and other areas in the Eastern Ghouta, also it rose to 24, the number of persons who were killed today as a result of the aerial and missile bombardment in the Eastern Ghouta, and the casualties are: 17, including 4 children and 2 women were killed in aerial bombardment on Zamalka, 3 were killed in aerial and missile bombardment on Saqba, 2 were killed in aerial bombardment on Jesrin, one casualty was killed in helicopter bombardment on Hazza and another casualty was killed in artillery shelling on Mesraba, while the violent clashes continue in areas in Madyara, Jesrin and Beit Sawa between Rahman Corps and Jaysh al-Islam against the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, in a continuous attack by the latter on the area along with a violent continuous fire cover.

In the same context, 5 casualties were pulled from under the rubble, they were killed in the aerial bombardment on Hamouriyah city yesterday night, Wednesday, also the rescue teams continue searching for more than 30 people who gone missing under the rubble; despite the difficulty of the rescue operations while the ambulances are out of service, raising the number of casualties of yesterday to 100 including 13 children and 15 women, and the casualties are: 30 citizens in Hamouriyah city including 6 children and 7 women, 17 citizens including 5 women and 2 children in aerial bombardment on Saqba city, 11 citizens including 2 children and 2 women in air raids on Hazza, 10 citizens in the KafrBatna town, 11 citizens including a child in aerial bombardment on Jesrin town, 4 citizens in raids by warplanes on Arbin, 9 citizens in raids by warplanes on Mesraba town, 3 citizens including a woman and a child in raids on Harasta city, 3 citizens including a child in aerial and artillery shelling on Douma city and 2 citizens killed by aerial bombardment on Madyara, and the SOHR also documented the death of 2 persons whose bodies were pulled from under the rubble of the destruction caused by bombardment two days ago which targeted areas in Arbin and Beit Sawa.

Raising to 931, the number of Syrian civilians who were killed in the Eastern Ghouta, including 195 children and 125 women, who have been killed by the aerial, rocket and artillery shelling on the cities and towns of Douma, Harasta, Arbin, Zamalka, Hamouriyah, Jesrin, Kafr Batna, Hazza, Ash’ari, Nashabiyah, Aftries, Otaya, Al-Shifonyyah, Al-Marj area, Mesraba, Madyara, Beit Sawa, and other areas in the besieged Ghouta of Damascus, and the shelling during this period which completed 2 weeks since it started, resulted in the injury of more than 4150 citizens including hundreds of children and citizen women with varying severity, some of them have permanent disabilities, while the bodies of tens of citizens are still under the rubble of destruction caused by the aerial, rocket and artillery shelling by the regime forces on the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, and the total death toll documented by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, includes 399 casualties including 54 children and 45 women who were killed and documented by the SOHR after the resolution of the UNSC, which failed again to stop the killing of the people of the Eastern Ghouta, and the shelling resulted in the fall of hundreds of wounded, where the number of casualties may increase because of the presence of serious injuries, amid the tragic humanitarian situation of the people of Ghouta, who intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that they do not leave the shelters for fear of the intensive shelling, amid inability of the medical staff to relieve all medical cases.

With the mediation of a faction backed by a regional country…the abolition war is ceased for 48 hours after a series of mediations in the wake of clashes killed about 330 citizens and fighters

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored calm prevailing Idlib countryside and the western countryside of Aleppo, since today morning, Friday the 9th of March 2018, after fighting which lasted for 18 consecutive days between the major factions of the Syrian North, within the abolition war between Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham against Ahrar Al-Sham Islamic movement, Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement and Suqour Al-Sham, which resulted in the fall of a large number of human losses in the ranks of the both parties, during which hit-and-run clashes and exchange of control took place, where the SOHR documented the death of 21 citizens including 8 children and 5 women, who have been killed since the start of the fighting on the 20th of February 2018, as a result of shelling and random shootings in the countryside of both Aleppo and Idlib, and the SOHR also documented that 178 members at least of Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham were killed during the shelling and clashes against Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement in the western countryside of Aleppo, and against Ahrar Al-Sham and Soqur Al-Sham in Idlib countryside, and 129 fighters of Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement ,Ahrar Al-Sham and Soqur Al-Sham, who were killed during the shelling and clashes in the area, and the number of casualties may increase because of the presence of a large number of injuries, some of them have seriously wounded, in addition to information about other casualties the SOHR is not able to document so far. 

The reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that this calm came in the wake of reaching an agreement between the both conflicting parties, after a series of mediations during the period of the bloody fighting between the both parties, where the agreement provides for a cessation of fighting between the both parties for 48 hours, from today morning, Friday the 9th of March 2018, until Sunday the 11th of the same month, and for stopping, during this period, all of instigative campaigns of the “official, corresponding and alternative” media of these conflicting factions, and reliable sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that this mediation took place through Al-Sham Corps supported by a regional country. 

It is noteworthy that Hayyaat Tahrir al-Sham restored the first and second countryside of Al-Mohandessin, Al-Atibaa countryside, Skeikh Ali, the Regiment 46, Tadil, Ajil, Urum al-Sughrah, Taqad, Kafr Nuran, Al-Tawameh, Kafr Karmin, Kafrnaha checkpoint, Maarat Al-Na’san, Miznaz, Al-Qanater checkpoint, they also managed to restore the areas of Zardana, Ram Hamdan, Hizreh, Kafr Yahmoule, Maarrat Misrin, Turmanin, Taladah, Deir Hassan, Qah, Kafrluseen, Aqrabat and Atma, while the SOHR obtained a copy of a video showing a commander in Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham, called “Abu Al-Yaqazan Al-Masri”, a commander of the rebel attack of Tahrir Al-Sham, while he was delivering a speech to a group of fighters of the Hayyaat during the fighting  and saying that “O, People of Al-Sham, Allah has honored you to witness the fighting against the Americans, the Russians, the apostates of Bashar Army, those who spread corruption in the lands, the Khawarij, and the corrupts. The end is near and the ranks are becoming clear, and the fighting will continue until this area turns back to a battlefield against the infidels. Noor Al-Din Al-Zenki Movement didn’t open a new battlefront and it sent 40 fighters to a position in Skaik area, but they withdrew after 10 days. The weapons were obtained to be used in Jihad and kept stored for a year and will come out to be used in Jihad, tanks, tracked vehicles, warehouses of Ahrar Al-Sham became under our control and the Jihad in the Levant is a faith, don’t lose it”.

166 people were killed yesterday including 7 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen, and 114 civilians were killed in shelling by the regime forces and warplanes, the Turkish shelling and other circumstances

It rose to 119, the number of those who joined yesterday the convoy of martyrs of the Syrian revolution.

In Rif Dimashq province, 93 including 10 children and 8 women, were killed by the shelling and bombardment of the regime forces and the warplanes and helicopters on the cities and towns of the Eastern Ghouta, and the casualties are: 25 citizens in Hamouriyah city including 3 children, 17 citizens including 5 women and 2 children in aerial bombardment on Saqba city, 11 citizens including 2 children and 2 women in air raids on Hazza, 10 citizens in the KafrBatna town, 7 citizens including a child in aerial bombardment on Jesrin town, 4 citizens in raids by warplanes on Arbin, 9 citizens in raids by warplanes on Mesraba town, 3 citizens including a woman and a child in raids on Harasta city, 3 citizens including a child in aerial and artillery shelling on Douma city and 2 citizens killed by aerial bombardment on Madyara, as well as the death of 2 persons whose bodies were extracted from the rubble of the destruction caused by bombardment two days ago which targeted areas in Arbin and Beit Sawa.

And in Latakia province, 14 fighters of the factions were killed in shelling and clashes on areas in the northern mountains of Latakia.

And in Aleppo province, 8 persons including a citizen woman and members of the free police were killed as a result of detonating a vehicle near Al-Shiukh intersection in Jarabulus area.

And in Idlib province, 3 citizens were killed as a result of several raids carried out by the warplanes on areas in the vicinity of Jisr Al-Shughur city and the villages of Halouz, Kafridin and Al-Ghassaniyah in the western countryside of Idlib.

And in Homs province, a fighter of the factions was killed after being shot by a sniper of the regime forces in Teir Maalah area north of Homs.

While the Syrian Observatory documented the extraction of the bodies of 10 casualties who were killed during the aerial and rocket shelling yesterday and they are: 7 persons killed in the outskirts of Jendires, and 3 person killed in the outskirts of Sharan, raising to 195, the number of the Syrian citizens of the Kurds, Arabs and Armenians, including 29 children and 25 women, who were killed in the Turkish aerial, rocket and artillery shelling, and executions carried out against citizens in Afrin area, since the 20th of January 2018.

And 17 members of the factions of “Olive Branch” loyal to the Turkish forces, were killed, in addition to the death of 8 members of the YPG, raising to 391 including 68 soldiers of the Turkish forces, the number of the members and fighters of the Turkish forces and the factions who were killed in the clashes against the Kurdish Units in Afrin area, while it rose to 346, the number of fighters of the YPG and the Self-Defense forces who were killed in the shelling and clashes in Afrin countryside, since the start of Operation “Olive Branch” launched on the 20th of January 2018.

And 7 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen were killed in shelling and clashes against ISIS and the factions.

At least 5 fighters of ISIS and the factions of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in clashes and bombardment of warplanes and helicopters and shelling on their areas of presence.

Between Mar. 2 and Mar. 8, Coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes consisting of 30 engagements in Syria and Iraq.
 
On Mar. 8 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against Daesh targets.
•Near Abu Kamal, two strikes destroyed a Daesh supply route and a UAV.
 
There were no reported strikes conducted in Iraq on Mar. 8, 2018.
 
On Mar. 7 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against Daesh targets.

Weekly Strike Summary
 
Between Feb. 23 and March 1, Coalition military forces conducted 23 strikes consisting of 35 engagements against targets in Syria and Iraq.
 
On March 1 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, two strikes destroyed a Daesh motorcycle and two weapons caches.
 
There were no reported Coalition strikes conducted in Iraq on March 1, 2018.
 
On Feb. 28 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of four engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, three strikes engaged two Daesh tactical units and destroyed a Daesh supply route and a Daesh-held building.
 
There were no reported Coalition strikes conducted in Iraq on Feb. 28, 2018.

On Feb. 26 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of seven engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, three strikes engaged a Daesh tactical unit and destroyed a Daesh supply route and damaged a mortar.
 
There were no reported Coalition strikes conducted in Iraq on Feb. 26, 2018.
 
On Feb. 25 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted one strike consisting of two engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, one strike engaged a Daesh tactical unit and destroyed three fighting positions.
 
On Feb. 25 in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of six engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Al Asad, one strike destroyed a Daesh cave.
•             Near Rutbah, one strike engaged a Daesh tactical unit and destroyed two Daesh vehicles and a weapons cache.
 
On Feb. 24 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, two strikes engaged two Daesh tactical units and destroyed a heavy machine gun and a fighting position.
 
On Feb. 24 in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted one strike consisting of one engagement against Daesh targets.
•             Near Hawijah, one strike destroyed a weapons cache.
 
On Feb. 23 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of three engagements against Daesh targets.
•             Near Abu Kamal, one strike destroyed a fighting position.
•             Near Al Shadaddi, one strike engaged a Daesh tactical unit and an IED facility.
 
On Feb. 23 in Iraq, Coalition military forces conducted one strike consisting of one engagement against Daesh targets.
•             Near Hawijah, one strike engaged a Daesh tactical unit.
 
Additionally, we received late reporting of one strike consisting of three engagements conducted in Iraq against Daesh targets on Feb. 22 near Hawijah, engaging a Daesh tactical unit and destroying a Daesh watercraft.
 
These strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to destroy Daesh in Iraq and Syria.  The destruction of Daesh targets in Iraq and Syria also further limits the group’s ability to project terror and conduct external operations throughout the region and the rest of the world.
 
This Coalition strike release contains all strikes conducted by fighter, attack, bomber, rotary-wing, or remotely piloted aircraft, rocket propelled artillery and ground-based tactical artillery.
