The following are news stories from the independent Iraqi Arabic news agency, Yaqein ( http://yaqein.net/ ): *** *** The following are news stories from a pro-Iraqi government website (http://www.iraqinews.com/), which usually reports those who are killed by Iraqi government attacks as Islamic State fighters, implying no civilians were killed by bombing residential neighborhoods: *** Iraqi forces repel Islamic State attack against borders with Syria by Nehal Mostafa Feb 9, 2018, 11:03 pm Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) -- The pro-government paramilitary troops have repulsed an Islamic State attack launched against the border between Iraq and Syria, the media service announced. In a statement on Friday, the service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “troops of the 29th brigade foiled, in the evening, an attack by IS members against Tal Sufuk region, on borders between Iraq and Syria.” The attack, according to the statement, “is still ongoing.” On Tuesday, the troops thwarted a similar attack inflicting huge losses in lives and equipment against the militants. Last month, the Iraqi Media News Agency quoted Farhan Mohamed al-Duleimi, member of the Anbar provincial council as saying that intelligence information from Syria confirmed presence of IS members near al-BuKamal region in Syria to launch attacks against Qaim, located near Iraqi-Syrian borders, and that they prepared for suicide attacks to target military units deployed on borders between Iraq and Syria. Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced, in December, full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members. Thousands of IS militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014. Seven people killed, injured in two bomb blasts in Baghdad by Nehal Mostafa Feb 9, 2018, 12:43 pm Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) -- Seven people were killed and injured as two bomb blasts took place in Baghdad, security sources were quoted saying on Friday. “A bomb went off near a market in al-Nahrawan region, southeast of Baghdad, leaving one person killed and two others wounded,” a security source told Baghdad Today website. Earlier on the day, another source said, “four persons were killed and wounded as a bomb exploded in west of Baghdad.” The blast took place in Abu Ghraib region, west of Baghdad, according to the source, “One person was killed, while three others were injured.” The wounded were taken to hospital for treatment, while the victims were taken to forensic medicine department, the source said. A total of 115 Iraqi civilians, excluding policemen, were killed and another 250 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in January 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). Baghdad was the worst affected governorate, with 323 civilian casualties (90 killed, 233 injured). Diyala followed, with 8 killed and 15 injured; and Nineveh, with 13 killed and 7 injured. Nine people killed, wounded in armed attack in Diyala: security center by Nehal Mostafa Feb 9, 2018, 12:27 pm Diyala (IraqiNews.com) -- Nine people were killed and wounded as an armed attack targeted civilians in Diyala, the media security center said on Thursday. “An armed attack against a barber shop in a region in Khanqeen, Diyala, left seven people killed and two others wounded,” the center said in a statement. Earlier on the day, a security source told Baghdad Today website that ten people were killed and injured in an armed attack carried out by one terrorist in Khanqeen. The emergency at the hospital, according to the source, who preferred anonymity, “recorded one victim from al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) and four others injured from the Tribal Mobilization Forces and the local police.” “Nine civilians including a woman and a child were wounded,” he added. From Feb. 2 to Feb. 8, coalition military forces conducted 41 strikes consisting of 65 engagements against ISIS terrorists in Syria and Iraq. Feb. 8 On Feb. 8 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed two ISIS supply routes, a fighting position and an ISIS line of communication. No reported strikes were conducted in Iraq on Feb. 8. Feb. 7 On Feb. 7 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes consisting of nine engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged five ISIS tactical units and destroyed a command and control center, an ammunition storage facility, a fighting position and an ISIS staging area. On Feb. 7 in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted one strike consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets near Taji. The strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. Feb. 6 On Feb. 6 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes destroyed two ISIS supply routes, a tunnel entrance and a weapons cache. On Feb. 6 in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of five engagements against ISIS targets: -- Near the Hamrin Mountains, two strikes destroyed 20 ISIS tunnels, two ISIS supply routes, three fighting positions, six ISIS vehicles and 10 ISIS fueling sites. -- Near Huwayjah, a strike damaged an ISIS supply route. Feb. 5 On Feb. 5 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of six engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged four ISIS tactical units and destroyed two staging areas, an ISIS motorcycle, a fighting position and a vehicle-borne bomb. No reported strikes were conducted in Iraq on Feb. 5. Feb. 4 On Feb. 4 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of six engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed three ISIS supply routes, a staging area and a weapons cache. On Feb. 4 in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets near Rutbah. The strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed two underground ISIS bunkers. Feb. 3 On Feb. 3 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes consisting of eight engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged five ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS supply route, four ISIS-held buildings and a weapons cache. No reported strikes were conducted in Iraq on Feb. 3. Feb. 2 On Feb. 2 in Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of 16 engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged five ISIS tactical units and destroyed four fighting positions, an ISIS supply route, two staging facilities, three ISIS vehicles and damaged a mortar system. No reported strikes were conducted in Iraq on Feb. 2. Additionally, officials said, the task force received late reporting of a strike consisting of two engagements conducted Feb. 1 in Syria against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal.
