UN Passes Pro-Palestine Resolutions, Chile and Ireland to Boycott Products of Illegal Israeli Settlements

December 1, 2018

Editor's Note:

While brutal force has been used to create Zionist Israel and sustain it thus far, Zionist claims to Palestine are false. Actually, from the five thousand years of known written history, there has been a continuous Palestinian-Canaanite presence in the Holy Land. Despite the Zionist false claims, the ancient Israelites ruled part of the land for only 85 years (during the reign of David, Solomon, and Solomon's son).

After that, the Egyptians conquered Palestine-Canaan in 925 BC, followed by Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans, before the Arab Muslim rule, starting from 636 AD.

By the Time Jesus started his mission, the three population groups of Canaanites, Palestinians, and Israelites were melted together in religion and language. Most of them became Christians when Constantine converted in 313 AD. Then, most of them became Muslims in the 7th and 8th centuries AD.

So, Palestinian Muslims, Christians, and Jews are the ones who have the right to claim descent from ancient Israelites, Palestinians, and Canaanites, not Zionists from other continents.

The following news stories are just examples of the Israeli occupation government violations of Palestinian human rights, on daily basis.

Chilean Congress Votes to Ban Products from Illegal Israeli Settlements

November 30, 2018 6:18 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

With an overwhelming majority, the National Congress of Chile approved a resolution demanding the government “forbid the entry of products manufactured and coming from Israeli colonies (illegal settlements) in the occupied Palestinian territory.” The resolution had 99 votes in favor and only 7 against.

The resolution was debated as part of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The text states that “since 1947 there has been a permanent expulsion of Palestinians and loss of their territory, which made impossible the full exercise of the right to national sovereignty held by the Palestinian People.”

Mahmoud Nawajaa, from the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) welcomed the decision:

We are glad that the Chilean Congress has marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People with concrete measures of solidarity and respect for international law. We urge the Chilean government to respect the Congress resolution and make sure that no products from illegal Israeli settlements are allowed into the country.

Israel’s entire economy benefits from its illegal apartheid, colonization and occupation policies. It is time for all countries in Latin America and around the world to end their complicity with Israel’s violations of international law. Banning products from illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land is hardly enough. To fulfill its moral and legal obligations, Chile should also implement an urgent military embargo on Israel.

The BDS movement has been steadily growing in Chile. Earlier this year, the Chilean city of Valdivia became the first Latin American city to declare itself an “Israeli Apartheid Free Zone” (AFZ).  Last year, students at University of Chile’s Faculty of Medicine voted to break institutional ties with Israeli universities, following similar decisions by Social Sciences and Law faculty students.

The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) is the largest coalition in Palestinian civil society. It leads and supports the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement for Palestinian rights.

Irish Boycott Bill Passes First Senate Reading

November 30, 2018 6:13 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

A bill prohibiting the importation and sale of goods and services originating in illegal Israeli settlements approved in July by the Irish Senate, was passed in its first reading, on Wednesday.

The Control of Economic Activities (occupied territories) Bill 2018, which was sponsored by Senator Frances Black, seeks to prohibit the import and sale of goods, services and natural resources originating in illegal settlements located in occupied Palestine.

According to local reports, 25 Irish senators voted in favor, while 20 opposed and 14 abstained.

However, the bill still needs to pass through another two readings before it becomes a law.

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi said, according to Ma’an: “The Irish Senate has sent a strong and important message to both the Palestinian people and to the global community that there is a price to be paid for Israel’s criminal behavior and its persistent violations of international law, international humanitarian law and human rights law.”

UN General Assembly Adopts 5 More Resolutions in Favor of Palestine

December 1, 2018 5:57 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted, on Friday evening, in favor of five resolutions on Palestine and a sixth resolution on the Golan Heights, WAFA correspondence reported.

One of the most important resolutions adopted today, by the UNGA, called on member states not to recognize any measures taken by Israel in Jerusalem and to maintain the current status quo in the holy city. The resolution also rejected the recent relocation, by the United States, of its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.

Commenting on the voting, Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the UN, Riyad Mansour, said that “by voting in favor of the five resolutions, the international community affirms its support of our national cause, despite the efforts made by the US administration in international forums to resist this.”

The UNGA also adopted a sixth resolution on the occupied Syrian Golan, demanding the withdrawal of Israel from all of the territory and affirming Syria’s sovereignty over it, in line with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

This is the second such move by the UN in less than two weeks. On November 17, the UNGA voted in favor of eight resolutions on Palestine and a ninth on the Syrian Golan Heights.

PLO: Solidarity with Palestinians not Just an Abstract Expression of Empathy

November 30, 2018 6:05 AM IMEMC News & Agencies

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi said, while marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People that coincided on Thursday, that solidarity is not just an abstract expression of empathy; rather, it is an active, positive and concrete engagement.

“On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted Resolution 181 (II).  Following the international community’s decision to adopt the Partition Plan, the suffering, dispossession, displacement, and victimization of the Palestinian people commenced as the state of Israel was established on the land of historical Palestine,” said Ashrawi in a statement.

“Seventy-one years later, the longest occupation in modern history persists while Israel continues to implement an official policy of unlawful unilateralism with a total disdain for international law and Palestinian human rights; such criminal behavior includes Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise, its expropriation of Palestinian land and resources, the deliberate targeting of peaceful protestors in the besieged Gaza Strip, the cultural, historical, demographic, and territorial distortion of Jerusalem, and the eviction and deportation of Palestinians from their homes and land, among other violations.  Such Israeli measures, which have been emboldened by the current US administration’s disastrous moves and decision-making, constitute a total negation of the most basic requirements for peace, stability and security.”

Ashrawi added, “Today also marks the forty-first anniversary of the UNGA’s designation of November 29 as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.  On this occasion, we extend our gratitude to the individual governments and parliaments worldwide that have recognized us, as well as the political parties, representatives of civil society, churches, solidarity and BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) groups, and others who have worked tirelessly in the service of the cause of a just peace and in defense of the Palestinians, a people in captivity and exile, and their right to live in freedom and dignity.”

However, stressed the PLO official, “Solidarity is not just an abstract expression of empathy; rather, it is an active, positive and concrete engagement. It should send a strong and important message to both the Palestinian people and to the global community that there is a price to be paid for Israel’s persistent violations of international law and conventions. Simultaneously, it would be assuring the Palestinian people of the protection available to them in the international legal and political system. The injustice which began in 1948 must come to end.”
