3 Million Displaced Iraqis, 1.7 Million Refugees from Mosul Alone, as the War on Sunni Muslim Arab Iraqis Continues in Al-Anbar September 24, 2017 Editor's Note about reporting on the US-Led war in Iraq The US-led coalition which fights the Islamic State in northern Iraq consists of US-led NATO forces, Iraqi Shi'i government forces, Iranian-backed Shi'i militias, and Kurdish Peshmerga forces. The coalition's continuous attacks have resulted in the killing of tens of thousands of Iraqi Sunni Muslim Arabs and the eviction of hundreds of thousands as a result of the destruction of their cities and villages. Millions of Iraqi Sunni Muslim Arabs have left their cities and villages as the fighting intensified towards an all-attack by the US-led coalition on Mosul. The end outcome has been evicting (ethnic cleansing of) Sunni Muslim Arabs from the upper Euphrates region of northwestern Iraq and northeastern Syria. The larger context for understanding the Iraq-Syrian wars is that these wars contribute to the implementation of the Zionist-Israeli plan of destroying the Arab Middle Eastern states in preparation for the establishment of the greater Israeli empire, from the Nile of Egypt to the Euphrates of Iraq. The following news stories from the official US and Iraqi websites do not mention any civilian casualties, as all reported deaths are claimed to be for ISIS members, who are killed in air strikes and bombardment on cities! Needless to say that independent sources are hard to find or report from. Thus, the following is a documentation of the death and destruction, as reported basically in such official website. Other independent reporting will be presented whenever available. One of these independent websites, which provides some reporting on Iraq is yaqein, whose stories are also posted here but in Arabic, with English headlnes.

The following are news stories from the independent Iraqi Arabic news agency, Yaqein ( http://yaqein.net/ ): *** *** The following are news stories from a pro-Iraqi government website (http://www.iraqinews.com/), which usually reports those who are killed by Iraqi government attacks as Islamic State fighters, implying no civilians were killed by bombing residential neighborhoods: *** Mosul, Iraq: 1.74 million refugees in 11 months of war by Mohamed Mostafa Sep 21, 2017, 2:19 pm Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi migration authorities have counted more than 1.74 million refugees since the launch of operations to retake major Islamic State strongholds in October 2016, including Mosul, Iraq. The number of refugees from Naynawah, Kirkuk’s Hawija and Salahuddin’s Shirqat has reached 1.074.91, according to Migration and Displacement Minister Jassem al-Jaff, quoted in a ministry statement. Those included 1.000852 from Naynawah, 43874 from Hawija and 29365 from Shirqat, the minister said, adding that his ministry was prepared for further flows of refugees as operations launched this week to liberate Islamic State-held towns in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin. The war against Islamic State militants, who took over large areas of Iraq in 2014, has displaced nearly three million people, according to Iraqi government figures. In August, Nour-Eddin Qablan, vice president of the Naynawah province council, said 50% of displaced civilians had returned to their home regions in western Mosul. The Iraqi government plans to repatriate all refugees by the end of 2017. More than 12,000 refugees have returned to their home regions in Mosul over the past week, an Iraqi government official said Tuesday. Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, recaptured Mosul from IS militants early July. Islamic State-held region, surrounding villages in Kirkuk freed by Nehal Mostafa Sep 23, 2017, 11:30 pm Hawija (IraqiNews.com) The first region in Islamic State’s holdout in Kirkuk and other villages in southwest of the province have been liberated, according to pro-government paramilitary troops. “Joint troops managed to liberate al-Zab region, southwest of Kirkuk, and seven villages,” Brig. Gen. Khalaf Ibrahim, commander with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Hawija, told AlSumaria News. “The region is the first to be liberated by troops there.” “Troops will stop after liberation of al-Zab and villages in its vicinity before invading the center of the town as well as regions of al-Riyadh, al-Abbassi and al-Rashad within the coming 48 hours,” he added. The group reportedly carried out collective executions of members who attempted to flee battles in Salahuddin to Hawija, where parallel security operations are running to retake militants-held regions. On Thursday, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, spokesman of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said the number of Islamic State members in Hawija falls between 800 and 1500. Previously on the same day, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and Lt.Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, deputy commander of the Joint Operations Command announced launch of first phase of operations to liberate Hawija and western Shirqat. Several villages in Shirqat have been retaken. Hawija and other neighboring regions, west of Kirkuk, have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. Federal Police announce liberation of IS’s holdout in north of Salahuddin by Nehal Mostafa Sep 23, 2017, 11:15 pm Shirqat (IraqiNews.com) Federal Police announced liberation of Islamic State’s holdout in north of Salahuddin on Saturday. Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, chief of Federal Police, said in a statement that “troops liberated the eastern side of Shirqat, concluding the third part of the third phase of operations to free Hawija.” 225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced. In a previous statement, Jawdat said troops seized an IS prison with 14 prisoners inside, during operations to liberate south of the eastern side of Shirqat. Earlier on the day, Jawdat said troops became in control over 90 percent of the holdout. On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and the Joint Operations Command announced launch of first phase of operations to liberate Hawija and western Shirqat. Federal Police, Rapid Response and the pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are carrying out the attack, according to the command. The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the eastern coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias. The western coast of Shirqat, is still under the IS control. More than 200 Islamic State fighters killed in Salahuddin offensive by Mohamed Mostafa Sep 23, 2017, 8:47 am Shirqat (IraqiNews.com) Security operations seeking to clear Islamic State havens in Salahuddin have so far left 225 militants dead since Wednesday, Federal Police said Saturday. Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat said in a statement that Federal Police and backing forces have recaptured 480 sq kilometers of the province’s IS-held town of Shirqat, adding that 41 villages were recaptured. Twenty-four booby-trapped vehicles, 15 weaponized trucks and 56 IEDs were also destroyed in the operations, according to Jawdat. Ninety families were evacuated during the battle, he said. That came as forces have concluded the second phase of operations for Shirqat, he stated, explaining that a third concluding phase will target areas southeast of the town. The Iraqi government declared last week the launch of simultaneous operations to retake Islamic State strongholds in Kirkuk’s Hawija and Salahuddin’s Shirqat where a few thousands of militants are believed to remain. Islamic State Islamic State militants emerged in 2014, taking over large areas of Iraq and neighboring Syria to proclaim a self-styled “caliphate”. Operations by the Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, have, so far, managed to retake the group’s former capital, Mosul, as well as the town of Tal Afar, both in Nineveh province. Coinciding with the offensives in Shirqat and Hawija, security forces have also launched a campaign to liberate Islamic State’s havens in western Anbar’s towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim. Paramilitary troops pound IS militants gathering on Iraqi-Syrian borders by Nehal Mostafa Sep 21, 2017, 6:40 pm Tal Sufuq (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government paramilitary troops have pounded an Islamic State gathering of meeting on borders between Iraq and Syria, the media service said. In a statement on Thursday, al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “artillery of the first brigade shelled an IS gathering south of Tal Sufuq, on borders between Iraq and Syria.” “Huge losses in lives and equipment were inflicted on the enemy due to shelling,” the statement said adding that the militant group tries to attract attention to ease pressure on militants in western Shirqat. Earlier on the day, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy PMFs commander, said, “military operations carried out by the troops in cooperation with security services will take place through two stages; first one at western Shirqat, north of Tikrit, while the second at Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk.” PMF announced earlier liberating five villages in northeast of Shirqat and killing several militants hiding at houses there. Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and Lt.Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, deputy commander of the Joint Operations Command announced on Thursday launch of first phase of operations to liberate Hawija and western Shirqat. The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the western coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias. The eastern coast of Shirqat, is still under the IS control.
*** The following are news stories from the US Department of Defense website (http://www.defense.gov/News) : *** OIR Spokesman: Liberation From ISIS Underway in Iraqi Towns By Terri Moon Cronk DoD News, Defense Media Activity WASHINGTON, Sept. 21, 2017 — Operations have begun to liberate western Anbar and Huwayjah, the last two areas in Iraq where the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria hold territory, said Army Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi made the operations announcement to eradicate ISIS, Dillon said, speaking to Pentagon reporters via teleconference out of Baghdad, today. “Already, the [Iraqi forces] have routed ISIS in Akashat, Rihanna, and just this morning they have cleared 11 villages, completing their first phase of operations in Huwayjah,” the spokesman said. “These operations are evidence, and showcase the [Iraqis’] increased capacity as a battle-tested, formidable fighting force.” It is clear that ISIS are overwhelmed and outmatched by the strength of the [Iraqi forces], he said. “[ISIS] is losing ground, and is failing in every battle. Soon, ISIS will have no sanctuary anywhere in Iraq,” Dillon said. The coordination among the Iraqi army, the federal police, peshmerga forces, local police, counterterrorism service, and popular and tribal mobilization forces has contributed to the victories seen recently against ISIS, the spokesman said. So far, he added, more than 4 million people have been liberated, and about 15,800 square miles have been cleared. Raqqa Gains In Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces continue to eliminate ISIS in the eastern and northeastern regions of that country, Dillon said. In Raqqa, “The SDF have now cleared about 70 percent of the entire city,” he added. The SDF gained about 84 city blocks in Raqqa from ISIS control in the past week, he said. “In the past week, the SDF have assisted more than 200 civilians flee the city of Raqqa,” Dillon noted. “The SDF also detained ISIS fighters attempting blend in amongst civilians; one of which was another ISIS emir, or local leader.” About 400 to 900 ISIS fighters remain in Raqqa, officials estimate. The coalition is staying focused on defeating ISIS in Syria, “while maintaining de-confliction between various groups, especially in and around Dayr Az Zawr,” Dillon said. De-Confliction Continues Coalition and Russian military officials met face-to-face this week to adjust and expand de-confliction measures, he added. “The discussions emphasized the need to share operational graphics and locations to ensure the prevention of accidental targeting or other possible frictions that will distract from the defeat of ISIS,” Dillon said. “We will continue de-confliction efforts with the Russians at every level to ensure we remain focused on fighting ISIS; all while protecting coalition and our partners' forces,” he said. SDF partners continued their anti-ISIS clearance operations in the Dayr Az Zawr province, northeast of Dayr Az Zawr city, the spokesman said. Since clearing began two weeks ago, the SDF have cleared more than 193 square miles, he added. Humanitarian Efforts The SDF also has continued to receive, screen and assist internally displaced persons, moving north from Dayr Az Zawr, he added. In southern Syria, near the tri-border region, coalition forces continue to conduct patrols and prepare for defeat-ISIS operations with the majority in the vicinity of Tanf, Dillon said. Across Syria, he said, some 2.3 million people are free of ISIS control and more than 44,000 square kilometers -- nearly 17,000 square miles -- have been cleared in the ongoing fight against ISIS. “We still expect tough fighting ahead, but with our partners' battlefield successes, increased capacity and continued support from a 73-member coalition, we will keep the pressure on until ISIS is defeated in both Iraq and Syria,” Dillon said.
