The government spokesman accused the Houthis and their allies of obstructing all efforts to bring peace, led by the United Nations and its special envoy to Yemen.

Ould Cheikh had recently proposed a halt to the armed conflict in Yemen and a political solution. He said he was considering steps that each side in which they could accept to restore confidence and move forward to reach a negotiated settlement.

Those steps were based on three basics: "re-establishing the cessation of hostilities, implementing specific confidence-building measures that will alleviate human suffering and return to the negotiating table so they can be able to reach a comprehensive peace agreement."
