Editor's Note:

The coalition which fights the Islamic State and other Sunni groups in Syria consists of US-led NATO forces, Russian forces, Syrian Alewite government forces, Iranian-backed Shi'i militias, and Kurdish peshmerga forces. The coalition's continuous attacks have resulted in the killing of thousands of Iraqi and Syrian Sunni Muslim Arabs and the eviction of millions of them as a result of the destruction of their cities and villages.

The end outcome is going to be the weakening and possible dismantling of Iraqi and Syrian states as well as the eviction (ethnic cleansing of) Sunni Muslim Arabs, particularly from the upper Euphrates region of northwestern Iraq and northeastern Syria.

US-Led Coalition: Tal Afar is next target for anti-IS offensives

 The town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, will most likely be the next target for U.S.-backed Iraqi forces seeking to eliminate Islamic State militants from the country, a spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition against IS.

Col. Ryan Dillon was quoted by Kurdistan-based website Xendan saying that the IS stronghold will be the next target of operations after the Iraqi government declared earlier this month victory over the militant group in Mosul, its largest bastion in Iraq.

Dillon said the coalition continues to pound IS locations on the outskirts of Kirkuk, another province partially held by the militants, as well as Anbar’s Qaim, on the borders with Syria.

Conflicting speculations concerning the next target have surfaced since victory was declared in Mosul.

Besides Tal Afar, IS still holds some areas in southwestern Kirkuk, western Anbar and areas on the borders between Diyala and Salahuddin.

So far, operations by pro-government militias have isolated Tal Afar from the Syrian borders and from Mosul.

On Sunday, Almaalomah website quoted Nineveh council member, Hossam al-Abbar, saying that Tal Afar was the source of most of the recent breaches by IS militants that targeted western Mosul.

Conflicting statements have been frequent regarding the participation of the Shia-led, government-recognized Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the liberation of Tal Afar, a town of a mixed Shia Arab and Sunni Turkmen population. Sunni Turkey has pressed Baghdad to exclude the PMFs from the anticipated campaign fearing sectarian twists. PMF leaders have, meanwhile, said occasionally that the government was going to engage them in the battle.

IS evacuates headquarters in Tal Afar due to doubts over people cooperation with security

 Islamic State have evacuated many of its main headquarters in Tal Afar town, west of Mosul, a local source from Nineveh was quoted saying.

“IS has carried out emergency evacuations over the night at many of its main headquarters in Tal Afar, in west of Mosul, after some of them were targeted over the past few days, which left many of its leaders and fighters killed and injured,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added “the group carried out the evacuations over the night due to its growing doubts over the people’s cooperation with security services, which contributed to the accurate airstrikes and inflicting losses on the group.’

IS flags, according to the source, remained on the top of evacuated buildings.

Earlier on the day, an anonymous source was quoted by AlSumaria as saying that huge explosion occurred at a field clinic, where IS injured militants are treated in the town, which urged the group to block the main roads.

“A huge blast took place in a residential building in Tal Afar town,” the source said adding that the building was found out to be a medical clinic for the injured militants.

“The reason behind the explosion is unknown,” the source said adding that the clinic is located in a residential alley, where families of Arab and foreign fighters are living.

Col. Ryan Dillon, spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition against IS, was quoted on Sunday as saying that Tal Afar will be the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul.

On Saturday, 17 IS female members were killed and injured as unknown missile targeted a headquarter of the all-women al-Khansaa brigade in the town.

News reports mentioned that powerful blasts rocked the western suburbs of Tal Afar, earlier on Saturday, as airstrikes targeted a building with huge amount of explosives inside.

Lt.Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, of the Nineveh Operations Command, had said that the fourth phase of liberation will be launched soon to free Tal Afar and other regions to complete the liberation of the whole province.

Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014.

Iraqi command dismisses Independent’s Mosul civilian death count

 The Iraqi military command which fought Islamic State militants in Mosul denied Thursday a report by The Independent which put the civilian death toll throughout the almost nine-month campaign at 40.000.

In a statement published by the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said  the numbers provided by the British newspaper were “inaccurate”.

“The official figures released by the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps stated that the number of bodies pulled from the rubble amounted to 1,429 bodies, while 102 other civilians were rescued and 200 families were evacuated,” read the statement.

The command said editors overlooked facts that the liberation battles were postponed in order to save the “innocent souls”, and that “liberating civilians comes before liberating the land,” as the statement put it.

“Kurdish intelligence believes that over 40,000 civilians have been killed as a result of massive firepower used against them, especially by the federal police, air strikes and ISIS itself,” Hoshyar Zebari, former Iraqi finance and foreign minister, told the Independent.

Zebari suggested that many bodies were still buried under the rubble, stressing that ‘he level of human suffering was “immense”.

A week ago, Airwars, a London-based independent organization, said that the United States-led coalition against Islamic State killed 5,805 civilians in the city between 19 February and 19 June. The Independent said that residents of Mosul were killed by Iraqi ground forces attempting to expel IS elements, as well as by air strikes and the elements of the terror group, noting that the overall toll was higher than official estimates.

On July 10, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi declared, victory in the city of Mosul, ending an eight-month campaign backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, which has displaced more than 900.000 civilians.

U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria yesterday, conducting strikes and engagements, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

Operation Inherent Resolve - Targeted Operations Against ISIS U.S. Central Command continues to work with partner nations to conduct targeted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria as part of the comprehensive strategy to degrade and defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.

Officials reported details of yesterday's strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes consisting of 17 engagements against ISIS targets:
