Hundreds of Syrian Civilians Killed in US-Led, Russian, Regime Air Strikes

July 24, 2016

Editor's Note:

The US-led coalition which fights the Islamic State in northeastern Syria consists of US-led NATO forces, Syrian Alewife government forces, Iranian-backed Shi'i militias, and Kurdish peshmerga forces. The coalition's continuous attacks have resulted in the killing of thousands of Iraqi Sunni Muslim Arabs and the eviction of thousands as a result of the destruction of their cities and villages.

Millions of Iraqi Sunni Muslim Arabs have already left their cities and villages as the fighting intensifies towards an all-attack by the US-led coalition on Raqqa and Mosul. The end outcome is going to be evicting (ethnic cleansing of) Sunni Muslim Arabs from the upper Euphrates region of northwestern Iraq and northeastern Syria.

The following news stories from the official US and Syrian websites do not (or rarely) mention any civilian casualties, despite the facts that air strikes and bombardment target cities, including residential neighborhoods!

Syrian opposition groups condemn US-coalition airstrikes after 140 civilians killed

SOHR, 23/07/2016 s

Syria’s foreign-backed opposition groups have called on a United States-led coalition bombarding purported Daesh positions in Syria to suspend the attacks following the recent death of some 140 civilians in coalition raids.

On Thursday, Reuters cited the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) as urging the coalition to temporarily stop the aerial campaign in Syria while an investigation is completed into recent coalition attacks thatkilled 140 civilians in and near the northern Syrian city of Manbij.

Anas al-Abdah, the SNC’s president, warned in a statement issued late Wednesday, “It is essential that such investigation not only result in revised rules of procedure for future operations, but also inform accountability for those responsible for such major violations.”

The airstrikes that killed the 140 civilians were conducted by the US and France — another member of the coalition.

The Syrian government has written to the United Nations (UN), asking the world body to condemn the airstrikes. The US-led aerial campaign inside Syria has no authorization from Damascus or the UN.

Abdah, the president of the SNC, said in his statement that the civilian fatalities of the recent strikes could “prove to be a recruitment tool” for Daesh.

The Free Syrian Army, another foreign-backed opposition group, called the fatalities of the US-led airstrikes “shocking massacres.”

“We will not allow any crime to be justified under the pretext of combating terrorism,” it said in a statement signed by more than 30 militant factions.

Reacting to the reports of the civilian fatalities, the French Foreign Ministry has said it does not recognize the figures released by the Syrian government and would wait for the results of an investigation conducted by the US-led coalition itself.

French President Francois Hollande claimed he had no precise information on the French air forces’ responsibility for the civilian deaths.

The UN children agency and UK-based rights group Amnesty International have sharply criticized the airstrikes.

The US-led coalition has been backing the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab forces, to capture Manbij since last May.

US led strike kills 56 civilians in Northern Syria

20/07/2016

At least 56 civilians have lost their lives in northern Syria due to air strikes by the US-led coalition purportedly targeting Daesh militants operating in the violence-wracked Middle Eastern country, says a UK-based monitoring group.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said 11 children were among the victims of the coalition’s Tuesday air raids near the Syrian village of al-Tukhar, situated close the Daesh-held city of Manbij near the Turkish border.

SOHR director Rami Abdel Rahman said the aerial assaults left dozens of civilians injured, including “some in critical condition.”

According to the monitoring group, the civilians were hit as they were fleeing fighting in Tukhar.

On Monday, the observatory said 21 civilians had been killed in the coalition raids in the area, 15 of them in a northern district of Manbij and another six in Tukhar.

Manbij, situated in Syria’s Aleppo Province, is a key point along Daesh’s main supply line from the Turkish frontier to its Syrian stronghold of Raqqah.

Since May 31, the city has been the target of a US-backed offensive by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab forces.

The U.S.-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters, broke into western districts of Manbij, but its advance has been slowed in the past month because of bombings and landmines planted by the extremists.

The coalition started its mission in Iraq in late 2014 after Daesh seized control over territories west and north of the country. The air campaign was later expanded to cover areas in northern Syria, despite criticism from the Syrian government that the attacks violate the sovereignty of the Arab country.

Jordanian border conditions worsen: Syrian refugees begin returning to Daesh-controlled areas

23/07/2016

Khaberni reports that some Syrian refugees staying at al-Ruqban, the refugee camp at the Jordanian border, have left to travel back to Daesh-controlled areas.

A source from the Syrian “SMART” agency told Khaberni that more that 70 families have left, citing “poor treatment” at the refugee camp.

Refugees also confirmed that water has risen to $3 USD a barrel at al-Ruqban, which is unsustainable on their limited budgets. Electricity is scarce in the camp. Important medications, especially diabetes and heart condition medicines, are difficult to obtain and in short supply.

Refugees explained further to Khaberni’s source that they felt mistreated by both the New Syrian Army and humanitarian organizations within the camp. They felt as if their concerns were being dismissed instead of addressed.

Khaberni describes the situation in al-Ruqban as “catastrophic conditions.”

Some refugees at al-Ruqban had traveled as far as Raqqa, the Daesh stronghold in northern Syrian, over 340 miles away. They are beginning their return journey, hoping to find better structure and access to basic living supplies under the Daesh regime.

About 600 civilian casualties including more than 250 children and women among about 6000 killed by coalition airstrikes in 22 months of bombing

SOHR, 23/07/2016

It rose to 5857 at least, the number of people who’s the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented their death in 21 months of raids and airstrikes by Arab-International coalition on areas in Syria since the dawn of the 23rd of September 2014 until the dawn of the 23rd of July 2016, also hundreds of people were injuries in the same raids and airstrikes, the overwhelming majority of them are members of the “Islamic state.”

Among the total casualty there are 594 civilian Syrian citizen, including 163 person under the age of eighteen, and 89 citizen women over the age of eighteen, killed in raids by warplanes on oil areas where there is an oil refineries, oil wells, buildings and vehicles, in the provinces Al-Hasakah, Al-Raqqah, Aleppo, Idlib and Deir Ezzor, including a family of a man and his wife and their five children, were killed by the bombing of the Coalition’s warplanes on the village of Dali Hassan east of Sarrin town northeast of Aleppo province, and 57 persons including 12 children killed in bombing by the coalition’s warplanes over al-Tokhar area in the northern countryside of Manbij, and 64 citizens killed in a massacre on the night of Thursday-Friday 30th/4 and 1st/5 of 2015 in the village of Bir Mahhalli near Sarrin town south of Ayn al-Arab (Kobani) city as following: 31 persons under the age of eighteen (16 male and 15 female), 19 citizen women over the age of eighteen years, 13 men over the age of 18, and an eighteen years old boy.

Also the “Islamic State” informed the family of a man from the city of al-Mayadin that he was killed in the bombing by the International Coalition’s warplanes on one of the organization’s headquarters in the area, where the man was detained by the organization during the bombing, while one of the guards in al-Omar oil field was also killed in the International Coalition’s bombing on the field.

A commander in the “Islamic state” organizing was also killed with his wife and four of their children, in the bombing by the International Coalition’s warplanes on Dabeq area in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Also 5107 members at least from the “Islamic state” were killed, the majority of them are not Syrians, was killed by airstrikes and raids of the Coalition’s warplanes in the provinces of Hama, Aleppo, Homs, Al-Hasakah, Al- Raqqah and Deir Ezzor, including tens of leaders of Syrian, Arab and foreign nationalities, most notably Abu Omar al-Shishani, Abu Osama al-Iraqi the Wali of “al-Baraka State”, Amer al-Rafdan” the former Wali of “al-Baraka State” and Abu Sayyaf and others.

Also 136 fighters at least from Jabhat Al-Nusra (al-Qaeda in Levant) were killed in the bombing by the International Coalition’s warplanes on headquarters of Jabhat Al-Nusra in the western countryside of Aleppo and the northern countryside of Idlib, the most prominent is the leader in al-Qaeda Muhsin al-Fadhli, Abu Humam, Abu Omar al-Kurdi, Abu Hamza al-Faransi and Abu Qatada al-Tunusi.

Also a media man works agency belong to the “Islamic state” was killed in airstrikes carried out by warplanes believed to be for the International Coalition on areas in the village of Tal Battal in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

We in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights believe that the number of casualties in the ranks of the “Islamic State” and other Islamic Factions is much more than the number we were able to document, due to the extreme secrecy by the targeted parties about their human casualties.

We in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights call upon the international coalition to be very careful in the military operation of Manbij, due to the presence of tens of thousands of civilians inside Manbij city, which –in case it was targeted by inaccurate air and missile strikes– will cause tens of new massacres against civilians, also after 22 months of the start of the international coalition’s operations in Syria.

We renew our condemnation of the targeting of civilians by the coalition, which their missile strikes and warplanes’ bombing in areas of Syria have resulted in the death of about 600 Syrian civilian citizens, including 252 children and women, and we strongly emphasize that the shelling, targeting and the military operations should be out of civilian areas, where mainly civilian Syrians were killed, wounded and displaced as a result of the shelling that targeted areas of their presence, while the international community continues to its awful silence toward the Syrian people’s pain, and their hopes of reaching a country of justice, equality, democracy and freedom, And to put their murderers to trials in the specialized courts so they and their commanders and instigators get their punishment.
