FBI to Start Tracking Hate Crimes against Arabs

ADC, 6/6/2013

Last year, ADC submitted an official request to the Department of Justice (DOJ) requesting the inclusion of “Arabs” among the race identities that may be recorded on the FBI Hate Crime Incident Report. Earlier this year, we asked you to contact your Senators and House Representative and request they join two Sign-on Letters. These Letters were sent to FBI and DOJ urging them to track hate crimes against Arabs.

Yesterday, ADC attended a meeting in Portsmouth, VA where an FBI advisory board voted to expand standard hate-crime incident reports used by thousands of police departments across the country to include crimes motivated by bias against Arabs as well as Sikhs and Hindus.

Remember, it always starts with you! Don't miss the opportunity to join us next week for our national convention, the largest gathering of Arab Americans in the nation. On Saturday there will be a special workshop entitled, "Hate Crimes in America," that will focus on empowering participants to work towards preventing future hate crimes. Meet with the White House and Congress, get to know other Arab Americans, learn about ADC’s efforts and achievements, and help shape our priorities. The success of our work is largely determined by your participation and involvement!
