63 Palestinians dead and 300 injured in a week of Israeli brutal, terrorist attacks on Beit Hanoon, Gaza Strip

PNN, (Beit Hanoon) Wisam Afifeh Tuesday, 07 November 2006

In six days of Israeli brutal terrorist attacks on the Gaza Strip 63 Palestinians are reported killed and at least 300 injured. The destruction to the town of Beit Hanoon in the northern Strip, the loss of agriculture and homes, and the devastated infrastructure is difficult to describe.

Local sources reported on Tuesday morning as Israeli forces began withdrawing that making an estimate of the devastation is nearly impossible at this point as it looks as if “several earthquakes struck."

Israeli occupation terrorist forces had begun to partially withdraw from the town of Beit Hanoon and are now on the outskirts, residents reported this morning. However later on Tuesday morning Israeli forces shot and killed two more Palestinians while Israeli aircraft bombed and destroyed the Jabaliya Refugee Camp home of a Legislative Council Hamas member. And later still Israeli forces bombarded the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia, killing another Palestinian and injuring four.

Israeli Army Radio says that occupation forces stopped much of the resistance, found large quantities of weapons and arrested and interrogated dozens of northern Gaza Strip residents after taking them into Israeli boundaries.

Facts indicate that until the last moments the armed resistance continued to launch projectiles at Israeli towns in response to the week-long Israeli attack, marking an Israeli military failure to reach the objective of its major assault.

Palestinian children are dead and injured, with Israeli missiles hitting near a school bus. Israeli forces also killed members of the armed resistance, elderly people, and civilians living in their homes. Israeli forces destroyed homes, agricultural land and infrastructure. The water was diverted to the only area hospital which was consistently short on medicines and blood. Much of the electricity was cut, as was area phone service.

Yesterday Israeli forces killed six Palestinians, including a leader of Al Qassam Brigades as the Hamas-linked armed resistance group defended against the invasion.

Israeli forces killed two teenagers; 15 Ramzi Al Sharafi in the northern Strip's Shaikh Zayed neighborhood and and 16 year old Mohammad Ashour during a shelling. And 19 year old Mervat Mansour from Jabaliya Refugee Camp, detonated explosives near a group of invading Israeli soldiers invading Beit Hanoon yesterday. The young woman taped a message before she died, indicating that the explosion was in response to the killings of tens of Palestinians.

Humanitarian catastrophe in Beit Hanoon, infrastructure is ruined

Gaza - Ma'an -

The governor of the northern province in the Gaza Strip, Ismael Abu Shammala, has warned of an impending humanitarian catastrophe in the area as a result of the Israeli incursion. He said that the number of Israeli tanks, vehicles and troops is a sign that the Israeli military is preparing to invade the whole area.

In a press conference in Gaza, Abu Shammala said that the incursion resulted in a great many victims and losses, in addition to much destruction left in its wake.

Abu Shammala said, "the number of Palestinians killed in the Israeli attack in Beit Hanoon is 53, while the number of injured is 240. A lot of them are women and children and 15 are very critical, 20 are critical. 70 of the injured are going to be handicapped."

He added that the infrastructure for the electricity, sewage and water was destroyed and many agricultural areas and farms were destroyed and bulldozed by the Israeli forces.

Abu Shammala added that the Israelis are claiming they want to stop the projectile-launching and to release the Israeli soldier. But, he said, they have killed 400 Palestinians since the capture of the soldier and thousands have been arrested and interrogated.

At the end of the conference, the governor called on the international community to intervene and put an end to the Israeli attack on the Strip.

Earlier official numbers released regarding the killed and injured in Gaza

Gaza - Ma'an -

A new medical report confirms that the ongoing Israeli incursion into Beit Hanoon in the northern Gaza Strip killed 57 Palestinians killed and injured 292. 42 of the injured are in a critical condition.

The report, which was prepared by the general management of emergency and first aid in the Palestinian health ministry, called on the opening of the Egyptian border so that injured Palestinians could be treated in Egyptian hospitals.

The administration warned against Palestinians from rushing back to Beit Hanoon as the Israeli military has only partly withdrawn from the area. The report also warned the Palestinian children against approaching or playing with any objects left behind by the Israeli forces.

In the statement, the management also called for the parents of children who were shocked because of the incursion to head to the social centres for treatment

Al-Jazeerah Editor's Note:

Israeli media describe killing civilians as terrorism. However, when Israeli occupation soldiers kill Palestinian civilians, they do not describe the Israeli killers of civilians as terrorists. It's time for Israeli terrorist acts to be described as terrorism.

Israeli occupation forces use the term "arrest" for "kidnapping" Palestinians from their homes. Objective media worldwide should not fall to the Israeli trap. This is kidnapping.

The Israeli occupation of Palestine is illegal under international law. The Israeli occupation government and its occupation forces have no jurisdiction over Palestinians. Only legitimate governments can arrest citizens. It follows that the correct term is "kidnapping" Palestinians, not "arresting" them by Israeli occupation forces.
