‘No Hope’ of Indian Troops for Iraq, says Colin Powell

Arab News, Reuters

WASHINGTON, 30 September 2003 — The United States, struggling to get more countries to send troops to help to stabilize Iraq, said on Sunday it had given up hope that India might contribute soldiers.

“The Indians... have indicated they would not be in a position to provide troops and I don’t expect that position to change,” US Secretary of State Colin Powell said in an interview on CNN. Powell said he was disappointed, “but, you know, each nation has to make its own judgment.”
