Nasrallah slams US and its ‘military
boots’
Badih Chayban
Daily Star staff, 2/25/03

Washington claims it wants to teach Arab
leaders to respect the will and rights of their citizens, but any military
action against Iraq would be against the will of people across the world,
the head of Hizbullah said Monday.
“America is stepping its military boots on the will and rights of the
rulers and citizens of the world,” Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah told
supporters at an inauguration for a mosque in Haret Hreik.
Hizbullah’s secretary-general said that US President George W. Bush
reiterated Washington’s desire for war just one day after millions of
people around the world demonstrated against a US-led attack against Iraq.
He also said that those Arab rulers who don’t respect democracy and
human rights “were put in their positions by the Americans” in the
first place.
The aim of Washington in the expected war was not just to control the
Middle East, but to control the whole world by securing valuable oil
resources. “This was why the French, the Germans, and the Russians are
defending the region and are against the war, as they are only protecting
themselves and their interests in the world from American control,” he
said.
Nasrallah also said that Washington was trying to put pressure on Syria,
threatening to challenge its control over Lebanon if Damascus doesn’t
support a new UN Security Council resolution backing war against Iraq.
“I hope that some of the Lebanese leaders will not be fooled by those
threats and won’t bet on the success of the American plans to gain more
resources and accomplish some of their selfish goals,” he said.
