GENEVA - The President, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, received President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt here yesterday. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the situation in the Arab world and developments in the region and stressed the need for efforts to make peace and alleviate sufferings of the unarmed Palestinian people, who are subjected to continuous Israeli onslaught.

The meeting was attended by Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director-General of the President's office; Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Information and Culture; Shaikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Guest house and Protocol Department; Ali Al Kaabi, Director of the President's Office; Adviser Ahmed Al Obaidaliy; and Nasser Al Abdouli, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN headquarters in Geneva.

From the Egyptian side, the meeting was attended by Omar Sulaiman, head of General Intelligence; Dr Zakariya Azmi, Chairman of the Presidential Court; and Naila Jabr, the Egyptian Permanent Representative to the UN.

The Egyptian leader was also expected to meet Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines King Fahd bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, who has been receiving medical treatment in the region, according to diplomatic sources. - Wam, AFP
