  The silence of the hams

By Dr. E.A. Richards, Special to Arab News

WASHINGTON, 1 August — Sunday morning is the period when the American talks shows peddle their propaganda to the nation.

Who are they? Let us see!

On NBC it is Tim Russert that leads off with his usual criticisms of Palestine and Yasser Arafat, criticizing both for not being nice victims to the Israeli Nazis.

On ABC it is Sam and Cokie, ably supported in their anti Palestinian diatribes by Steffy Stefanopolous and pro-Israel all the way pundit, George Will.

On CBS it is another Sharon mouthpiece, Bob Schieffer, who cannot see anything wrong with what Israel does.

If you switch to Fox News, Brit Hume will expound on why it is fine for Israel to murder Palestinian civilians, but not all right for Palestinians to take revenge against Israelis.

What were they silent about this time? Read further!

A “brave” Israeli pilot committed a crime against humanity when he flew an F-16 fighter aircraft into undefended civilian territory in the Gaza Strip and fired a missile into a Palestinian home in a Gaza residential area.

This F-16 was American made, with American rockets and machine guns, with special American supplied laser guided missiles, all of which was provided free of charge to the Israeli government by a pro-Israeli administration and Congress.

If you had tuned in on Sunday to said political talk shows you would have heard nothing about the brutal attack, which, most Nazi-like in character, was made in the dead of night.

What was the result of this cowardly sortie?

Sixteen Palestinians killed, of which two were innocent babies, and one was a 15-year-old girl. 5 Palestinian homes leveled, and 145 Palestinians wounded.

Did you hear any of this on Sunday? Was the wanton murders of Gaza civilians decried by Bob Schieffer? Did Brit Hume fume at the injustice of the butchery? Did Sam or Cokie give any excuse for the cowardly F-16 attack? Did George Will or Steffie come out against the killing and wounding? Did Timorous Russert criticize Sharon’s dastardly action in ordering this appendage to the ongoing genocide?

Not a chance!

In fact, they probably were as pleased with the attack results as was “The Butcher”, Sharon, who chortled over the body count, in his illegal use of American supplied weaponry for attack purposes rather than for defense.

There they stand, with their bosses, pro-Israel as they can be, aiding and abetting the Israeli jackboots in their genocide against the Palestinians, knowing that the American party line for both the administration and the congress is also mainly on the Israeli side.

Again Ariel Sharon, “The Butcher”, thumbs his nose at Bush, Cheney, Rice and Powell, and the American people, who wish someone, any one, had the guts to combat this mad killer for the sake of Middle East peace.

Can it be done?

Not by those scared Americans in our government with spinal columns constructed of damp pasta!
