It is strange that media and general public come to know the finer nuances of Islamic Shari'a, through media's less than friendly coverage of the subject.

The focus on veil has primarily started in UK, by a comment by British labour MP, Jack Straw, who felt full Niqab makes Muslim ladies complete strangers in British society.

As it develops, the focus shifted from the right of choice by a Muslim woman, to wear whatever pleases her or according to her is ordained by religious strictures --- to the veil itself. Jack Straw and Tony Blair, have successfully by passed the issue of the rights of every citizen in a multi-cultural pluralist society to make his or her life-style choices. In fact, the general feeling in knowledgeable circles is that Straw and Blair are targeting British Muslims for not fully supporting UK invasion of Iraq. Their ingenious way to attack British Muslims, by picking on a distinct practice adopted by very miniscule minority of women, that is not specifically covered by any Qur'anic injunction, but which cannot be condemned as some kind of treasonable act.

Indian media too has, as usual followed the lead of the British media, in a fall back to a herd mentality that unquestionably apes the Western media.
