White House Increasingly Desperate to Rewrite History - The Guardian (Al-Jazeerah, Nov.19, 2005)

Dear Editor:

Not that I would have expected Sidney Blumenthal to have read three novels by Newt Gingrich, however, it should have been relatively easy for him to have learned that the Civil War trilogy co-authored by the former Speaker who has a Ph.D. in Modern European History ended in a victory for the North and not the South as he incorrectly writes in his piece (White House Increasingly Desperate to Rewrite History - The Guardian - Nov.19, 2005). Blumenthal goes on to write a little alternative fiction of his own when he claims that Gingrich told an unnamed source that "we are at war with the Democrats". You will not find any record of Gingrich saying any such thing because Blumenthal, the author of the book called "The Clinton Wars," made it up, which raises the question. Just what were these "wars" Clinton waged and who were they with?

Best regards,

Rick Tyler

Americans must push for troops' withdrawal from IRAQ NOW

As the Israeli Likud government, led by the notorious war criminal Ariel Sharon, is going to be dissolved soon, Americans must grasp this golden opportunity and work very hard on kicking the Neo-Cons out of power and also on bringing their sons and daughters from the Hell of Iraq, as soon as possible.

Simply, Sharon out of power means GW Bush and Tony Blair will be also out of power, which will result in immediate withdrawal of the Anglo-American Occupying forces from Iraq.

Mr Green and Mrs. Campbell Opinion Article

In the opinion piece written by Mr Green and Mrs. Campbell they try to compare the persecution of the Jews by the Nazi regime to the Zionists' treatment of Palestinians simply because the Palestinian don't have Jewish DNA.

If the Arabs would have simply accepted that the Jews inhabit a tiny peace of land to which they had an historical link and wouldn't have tried to destroy the incipient Jewish state instead of attempting its destruction in 1948, closing the Tiran straits in 1956 (which constitutes an act of war) , the declaration by Nasser in 1967 of its intention to push the Jews into the sea, then maybe the Palestinian would be in their own territory ruling their lives instead of living like refugees in other Arab countries where they lack the rights of citizenship after 50 years!!!

Don't compare then the extermination based on racial motives of the European Jewry , Germans, Italians, French, Polish, Dutch, Bulgarian, Yugoslavian, etc by the Nazis to a political struggle in the holy land were the Arabs bear an equal responsibility as the Jews, if not even more

It's interesting to sense irrational antisemites like you trying to show a twisted sick logic. take care

Henry Leibowitz

Editor:

The Palestinian problem started when the Israelis refused to allow Palestinian refugees to return to their homes at the end of the 1948 war. They became refugees when the Israelis denied them the right to return and instead started to bring Jews from all over the world and grant them citizenship while the Palestinian indigenous people were denied the Israeli citizenship.

Until this moment, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is over the property of the Palestinian people that has been taken from them by force, no matter what you say. Palestinians have the right to be citizens inside their own homeland (Palestine/Israel), not in other Arab countries.

Moreover, Palestinians are not responsible for what Nasser did or said in 1967 or for what the Germans did to Jews in Europe.

It's astounding that you are belittling the horrors that Israelis have inflicted on the Palestinian people since 1948, including genocidal massacres, hundreds of thousands of deaths and injuries, uprooting them from their homeland, dispersing them around the world, and subjecting them to a brutal military occupation since 1967, for no reason other than being the lawful owners of the Holy Land.

With all its arsenal of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, and with the US unqualified and unlimited support, Israel has been the one who pushed Arabs to the desert (1948) and to the sea (from Beirut in 1982). Any claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. Only Arabs were thrown to the sea and the desert by the Israelis, not the other way around.

Finally, people need to stop accusing others of anti-Semitism everytime they criticize the Israeli occupation and its Zionist supporters. Actually, such criticism is pro-Semitism and pro the Semitic Palestinian Arabs, the victims of the Israeli occupation, which is being criticized now by a great number of Israelis themselves.
