The "Debate" Between Greenstein and Atzmon Dear Editor, "A debate between Tony Greenstein, an anti-Zionist ethnic Jewish activist and Gilad Atzmon, an ordinary Jazz musician", was an amazing conversation. Despite my strong preference, it was informative, polite and graceful. There were even subtle signs of reasoned capitulation (compromise?) Why can't politicians work through issues like those guys! I remember a story about WWII and the lend-lease program. When the French surrendered to the Nazis, Churchill ordered the surrendered French naval vessels sunk with all hands aboard. When the American defense industrialists witnessed this "ruthlessness", they signed the papers and lend-lease went through. Mr. Abbas has survived a brutal occupation - he does not need to prove anything. A professional [Jewish] acquaintance of mine is an Israeli. His family has lived in Palestine since before the Zionist migration. He related stories his grandparents shared about how well Jewish, Arab and Christian communities were integrated and prospering before the Zionists. They were neighbors in every sense. He says his grandparents still say the Zionists ruined everything. Recent speeches by Bush have hinted at a "continuous" Palestine. I hope that means the West Bank would be connected to Gaza. I worry he means to let Israel have Gaza. Would one state be better than two? I have this sense that outside the halls of power in both Israel and Palestine the people could work this out. What a power house the middle east could be if peace only came. Imagine the world after that issue is settled. Everything else would be so easy. I really enjoyed the "debate". It would be neat if Palestinian scholars could share such a discussion regarding the one state - two state solution. A similar discussion by Israelis would also be great. If you could locate "brief" minutes of those kinds of arguments, please share them with us. Terry Thurber
Batman begins at 9-11: "Fixing the facts" on Gotham City as well as on Iraq Holy nightmare, Robin! Bush lied to us about Iraq! So why should we continue to believe that he told us the truth regarding 9-11? According to newly-released Downing Street memos, the Bush Republicans "created the conditions" and "fixed the facts" to get us involved in the War on Iraq. There is a pattern here, Batman. They probably "created the conditions" and "fixed the facts" on 9-11 to get us involved in the War on Terror too. I can just hear The Penguin now as he whispers into Two-Face's ear on that fateful morning in the fall of 2001. "The conditions are right. The facts are fixed. Get out your goat book and practice your reading." To the Bat Cave, Robin! Let's send these Jokers to jail. PS: If you have ever heard the mating call of a penguin, it sounds just like a little old lady who is totally furious because her purse has just been snatched. It is sure to be an interesting discussion, so please make a note of it. Again, the website for the program may be accessed at www.currentissues.tv
US Media Shamed by Brit Journalist By now, it has become recognized world wide (except in the U.S), that the Bush administration's efforts to control what people see and think are without precedent. These Efforts are not limited to domestic sources, and means to accomplish this task are equally varied. In order to understand the extent to which this administration has been willing to accomplish this goal, and the consequences of these actions, the following examples post September 11th 2001 provide some assistance.
