The Douglas Wood Affair: By William Hardiker Who is William Hardiker? Is this an opinion editorial, or is this Al-Jazeerah’s viewpoint on what happened with Douglas Wood? It’s important that readers understand the position that Al-Jazeerah takes on this particular issue (the Douglas Wood kidnapping). Please clarify. Prevent future catastrophe Dear Editor, The pullout from Gaza by the Israelis may point to great horrors to come. In my opinion you should investigate this seriously. Once the occupiers have left, the Gaza strip can be attacked with poison gas, infectious diseases and other horrors. As soon as their own people are out of Gaza, they can distribute bacteria, viruses, airborne poisons and the like. Please get monitors for such things in place or at least publish this idea so that international scientists can be ready to analyze new illnesses when they happen. A response to Iman AL-Saadun's letter addressed to the British people On a Letter to the British People, we will not have peace until the people of the world realize that this is a war on all people. As an American I feel the shame brought to us by our government through the suffering of many innocent people. Many young military have no comprehension of the scope of their actions but the memories are a disease festering in their minds for leaders who drool over the power of shock and awe. Despair will accompany our actions as Israel will be firing on citizens of the occupied territories by summers end and resistance to our own government's actions is growing more present every day. I watched as Bush met with Vietnamese leaders and wondered if 30 years from now wounds from present aggression could be overlooked by those who did not know the sacrifice and suffering. Neatly packed into the past with some sort of twisted history lesson for the gullible. It is not the British people, I marched with them on global days of resistance to this war, we are millions. So to get to the source of these acts of illegal war look no further than those who wrap themselves in the secure environment of highly protected patriotism, as more innocent civilians tragically experience the repercussions of corporate dominance everywhere. A Response to the Letter to the British People By Iman Al-Sa'adun (Uruknet, July12 ,2005) Dear Editor, Please pass on the apologies of the British ordinary people to Iman Al- Sa'adun. It is true great crimes are being committed by those who wield weapons in the name of our governments. You are not forgotten in our prayers and there are many who shed tears for the sufferings of the children of God no matter where they are on the world. God has given much rope for the violent amongst us and it may well be too late to repent before it is tied tightly and binds the murderers. In this time, no war using weapons can be won. Only the war within our own souls can be won with patience and humility. God demands that we love each other no matter what our race or creed is. The gentle Jesus has shown that to suffer and still keep the law of God is the way. The shame of oppression eventually brings it's own doom upon those who oppress and cause suffering. Keep the beautiful faith of God and be patient. All things pass and God values love of each other as the only true quality we can take with us beyond this life. There is no need for any person to take up arms against another or to make war in Gods name. It is unfortunate for man to be tempted in these times. Yet, it is also this very time that can determine those who have kept the sacred laws and those who have fallen into the pit of self delusion. Peace be upon you Iman Al-Sa'adun and the grace of God fall upon those who have suffered. Love. Francis R. Tobin
In response to Iman AL-Saadun's letter addressed to the British people I guess this maybe not the correct reply address but I would be most grateful if this could be passed on. War anywhere, war in Iraq, I despise any war, but as for British being free you are totally wrong. We have no say in any war and our freedom and freedom of speech has been totally removed from us too. I live in a small borough in London and as not to offend all those of different cultures, our lives have been turned around. We are not meant to celebrate Christmas any more it has been renamed winter festival as not to offend it seems nowadays aliens of other countries residing here have more of a say in general welfare of everyday living than the Brits do. Even Tony Balir discussing with other Muslims what choices should be made to Muslims in this country that are believed to be involved in terrorism, should they be deported, etc. It is disgusting it should be down to the British people to decide, there should be a mass vote on what should happen to these people. I think that the UK should pull out of Iraq but at the same time I believe anyone living in the UK who feels so patriotic about what is going on in Iraq should reside there and give Iraq all the support it needs. All war seems to be around religion. Enough is enough. May God be with those who have had their innocent lives taken away from them whether it be in Iraq, or anywhere. Dick Blue, UK
Why Few Graphic Images from Iraq Make it to U.S. Papers
NEW YORK
American service members in Iraq were appearing in U.S.
publications. Newspaper editors seemed to agree that
one primary obstacle was logistical: Given the sporadic
nature of the violence occurring in a country the size of
California, getting to the news is a dangerous challenge
in itself. But when photographers are indeed able to capture such scenes,
what happens to those images?
