Let's Have the Courage This is in response to Professor Ali Al-Hail, Let's Have the Courage....Al-Jazeerah, January 24, 2005, Very nicely put. Very nice. But how do we go about making it a whole planet again? If I were on the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, I would vote for you. Dwight Huth
Let's end the talk of eliminating the filibuster in the Senate Comment: It is clear that the attempt by Republicans to kill the filibuster in the Senate is undemocratic and against the will of the people. Refer to the following polls for the evidence. Let's stop talking about it as if it was a real option and start talking about how we can work together for the benefit of ALL the people. Consensus is better than control. Cooperation is better than competition. The filibuster prevents a majority party from ignoring the voices of the minority. It needs to stay the way it is now. RE: ISRAEL, ON ITS OWN, IS SHAPING BORDERS OF THE WEST
BANK, April 10, 2005
This article downplays the
truth of the dangerous Israeli control of the West Bank, especially, East
Jerusalem.
The above-mentioned article
did not mention international law and Israel's refusal to abide by it. By
ignoring International Law and in talking about Israeli settlements, the West
Bank, including E. Jerusalem, Erlanger did not include the importance of the
international community, including the UN, the ICJ, and respected human rights
organizations.
Instead, Erlanger creates only a dispute between Palestinians and Israelis, showing a sorry lack of information for judging both sides equally. This kind of journalism is very deceptive, and confusing to the reader. A recent editorial in the Boston Globe by Jeff Halper on April 11, reveals honestly the horrendous conditions that the Palestinians have been enduring....loss of homes, murder, destruction of properties such as Olive trees, which used to be of great help to the economy, etc. Under these conditions, it is difficult to see how a healthy Palestinian state can exist.
The Wall is the most dangerous
of all: near 200,000 Palestinians, residents of East Jerusalem will be
impacted by this Wall. Ignoring this is unacceptable, and most of all, cruel.
This barrier should not exist. If Israel is a "democracy," then, to be sure,
it should start acting like one.
Biased reporting should be
stopped, and now.
Sincerely,
Paul Bradford

Secret war doubts revealed Mr. Martin, the question of the legality of the war in Iraq resurfaces; in the British election; as a question of trust. The questions about motivation and premeditation as well as the technical legality of war in Iraq just won't go away. Does the ongoing reassessment of global oil supplies, future supply and demand, now suggest more plausible reasons for war in Iraq than terrorists with WMDs? Does the impending global shortage of oil necessitate a deeper level of control than business arrangements supported by military safeguards which worked well for the US in the second half of the past century? Are there plans for war in Iran? Mr. Martin, do you think there is a new cold war brewing across the South China Sea catalyzed by this same impending shortage of oil in an area of historical conflict between two of the world's major economies, both dependent upon imported oil? The technical legality of war in Iraq is not nearly as important as motivation. How does the Chinese, Russian or Iranian government view US and British motivation in Iraq? As an illegal war of self-interest? As a grab for oil? As a calculated first in a series of resource wars? Makes living in even good old safe Canada much, much more dangerous. Bill Henderson
