Editor: History of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict did not start with Gorbachev being forced by the US to allow Soviet Jews to immigrate to Israel. There were many milestones even a century earlier.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict started in 1897 when the World Zionist Organization was established to colonize Palestine, bring European Jews and evict Palestinians from their homeland.

Between 1917 and 1948, Britain made sure that illegal Jewish immigrants had the upper hand in Palestine. Thus, Israel was declared in 1948, annexing more land than what was given to it according to the 1947 UN Partition Resolution 181.

In 1956, Israel participated with the two world colonial powers, Britain and France, in attacking Egypt and Gaza Strip, and occupying Sinai and the Strip. President Eisenhour forced the three aggressors to withdraw.

In 1967, Israel launched its infamous pre-emptive strike against Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. By the end of the war, the Israelis occupied Sinai, the Golan Heights, the West Bank of Jordan, and Gaza Strip.

In 1973, Egypt and Syrian launched their counterattack in which they regained some of their lands.

In 1982, Egypt had regained its Sinai territory but Syria has not regained the rest of the Golan yet because of the Israeli insistence to deny Syria access to Lake Tabariya.

Also, in 1982, Sharon led Israeli forces in the invasion of Lebanon, during which he supervised the massacre of Sabra and Shatilla in Beirut, where about 3,000 Palestinians were massacred. The PLO left Lebanon to Tunis and other Arab countries.

The problem lies with the expansionist Zionist ideology, which has aimed at controlling not only Palestine but the Middle East as a whole.

Israel could not have been able to launch all these wars without the unlimited support from the West generally and the US in particular.

With regard to the immigration of the Soviet Jews to Israel, it was a continuous US demand throughout the 1980s. As Secretary of State, James Baker, mentioned in his memoirs, US representatives in the negotiations with the Soviet Union about the arms control, like Ken Adelman, were always relentless in their demand that the Soviets let Soviet Jews immigrate to Israel. Actually after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Jews were denied entry to the West in an attempt to force them to go to Israel.

The Bush administration & torture of Iraqi Prisoners

GWB thinks that what happened at Abu Ghraib was only mistreatment. Well Mr Bush maybe you could imagine this, someone has been arrested. It's 2 am, soldiers are yelling at you and they have put a hood over your head so you can't see.

You can still hear though. You are driven to a prison you don't know what's going to happen as you can't see. You can hear dogs barking when you get there.

The soldiers take your hood off and tell you to strip. Naked. You refuse, so a soldier hits you over the head. You strip. A rottweiler is straining at the leash and he is not friendly. You are terrified.

The hood is back on. You are tied to the bars of your cell, arms outstretched, after two minutes you are tired, after an hour you are in agony. No one cares, someone sets up a cd player at a very loud volume.

You are beaten repeatedly. Mr Bush that and worse has been done to the prisoners in Iraq, This is torture that will affect those subjected to it for the rest of their lives.

Maybe you could ask yourself how would I like to be treated like that and maybe be really sorry not just say it.

God, The Rapture and Vera Casey

"What will your God be doing on June 11?" I asked George Bush.

"We will be closing down the Vera Casey Parent-Child Center in Berkeley. And, of course, occupying Iraq."

"But why?" I asked. "I thought you guys were pro-life."

George looked at me like I was the veriest fool. "You are just not getting it, Jane." Obviously not. The Vera Casey Center offers excellent child care services to teen mothers who chose not to have abortions. It should be a pro-lifer's dream! They should be funding it right and -- gulp -- left. Instead, the Bush administration's Scrooge-like grip on the educational purse strings of America is causing the center to close down on June 11.

George was kind enough to spell it out for me. "Ever since the Garden of Eden," he said, "Mankind has sinned. Born into sin." Okay. "You pop out the womb? You're a sinner!" Aha. So as long as you don't have an exit strategy, you're okay?

"Congratulations. You've grasped the concept. Fetuses rule, real folks drool." So perpetual war, global warming, capital punishment, no Medicare, slave-labor economics and closing down the Vera Casey Center are all part of God's plan?

"Exactly. You gotta cut the wheat from the chaff. Kill off all the sinners. No pain no gain." And what, pray tell, will be the gain?

"The faster everyone dies off, the sooner I get into Heaven." Okay. Lord knows that America is now a nation committed to securing The Rapture (as well as the national treasury) for George Bush. No sacrifice is too great! "Bring it on."

Support for Rabbi Joseph Dershowitz ideas

Dear Sir,

I have read the article by Rabbi Joseph Dershowitz (Al-Jazeerah, May 31, 2004) and I wish to express support for some of his ideas.

Islamic teachings tell us that while we may not trust a Jew or be a friend of one, this does not mean that we cannot be a good neighbour or deal with them. And in fact Muslims have lived with Jews for over a thousand years with very little or no problems.

Certainly Jews live in Turkey and Lebanon and perhaps there are some in the other Arab states. The Zionists along with the previous colonial masters conspired to make the Jews from the Muslim countries move to the Zionist state through the instigation of Muslim violence against the Jews - much of which were orchestrated by Zionists against the Jews - which was very successful.

At this point in history Muslims are at a point where they can reverse some of that evil and encourage Jews who lived in Muslim countries (and their descendants) to move back and become productive members of Muslim controlled society.

Show that Muslims do not hate Jews and that we are willing to rectify previous evils where we can. Christian countries are also falling into the anti-Jewish trap because this only makes the Zionists more happy- as they can continue to say "see we told you that our Zionist state is the only safe haven for Jews".

For example many French Jews have gone to Israel for fear and for their safety - this action and attitude by the French has made the Zionists only stronger. This is why the Zionists were angry when Germany took in a few Russian Jews recently.

We have to take away the "raison d'etre' of the Zionist state which is that "the Zionist state is the only safe place for Jews". If Muslims and Christians should embark on this reversal of evil, be sure that they will have to be vigilant against evil Zionist conspiracies to do evil to these repatriated Jews and blame it on the Muslims.

It means that it will cost Muslims and Christians to protect their repatriated Jews, but the cost will be well worth the outcome.

Freedman and his New York Times are like a tabloid

Dear Editor,

Recently I read an article by by Friedman of New York Times in an Asian Magazine " Oil is a Curse for Arab Nations". This letter is in response to his article on a trip to Japan and Korea.

This man mentions that while Korea and Japan are developing robots as technology tools, Arabs are converting their youths into robots. This reflects Friedman's prejudice and ignorance. If anywhere in the world human race is being converted into machine, it is US and its allies, like Israel and UK.

Zionists are feeding youths with the mythological and invented ideology that Jews were promised by their God to come back to the promised land, slaughter its inhabitants, demolish their home, steal their lands, kick them out and name the land Israel. This false propaganda (read The Promised Land) has generated so many robots, not only in the state of Israel but in the US that it will take a long effort to deprogram this mentality. This myth is being taught in Israeli schools to generate and pump out fresh robots so human thinking is extinct from that land. This will create an atmosphere where mechanics like Sharon will control every robot in the land with a remote control. In contrast to this, Muslims do not tolerate genocide and religious cleansing of others not only in their home land but also anywhere on earth. They rise to fight back whether they are labeled terrorists or fundamentalists by the masters of robots. I challenge Friedman to probe and find who is really a Robot?

The New York Times and American media created many robots in the US by programming human beings with the news that Iraq had WMD and that it can attack the US any day. The impact of the programming was used as training of neural networks which resulted in a generation of such an impact that 90 % of the population supported the invasion of Iraq. Robots hoped that they would hear about WMD because people like Friedman were programming them. One can imagine the intensity of the false propaganda that despite massacres, religious cleansing, and torture in Iraq, these robots fail to acknowledge the truth. Such robotic conversion plays well with the likes of Friedman. Muslims do not tolerate such an inhuman treatment to even the worst of their enemies because their code is different from that of Friedman's programming. I admonish Friedman to judge who is a robot.

Finally whether Oil is a curse to Arabs or a bounty from God in response to the prayer of Abraham, the righteous, can be judged by various standards. It is a bounty from the Lord since it made life better for humankind and generated wealth, some of which was used for righteous cause. However, it became a curse since it brought Western tyranny to the doorsteps of Muslims
