Gratitude

Dr. El-Najjar,

I am writing to express my gratitude to you for your commitment to journalism. Your running theme across the top of your web page is exactly correct. "True Journalism is the Scrutiny of Government and its Policies". What Americans get for journalism is biased opinion.

I feel indebted to you for your vigilance and energy to present a more rational voice. I also enjoy two of your regular columnists, Hamod and Whitney. Religious fundamentalism of any color by necessity values belief more than fact. This is always the perfect recipe for war, exactly the underpinnings of this crusade in Iraq. No facts about WMDs, just belief, no facts to tie Saddam to terrorists, just belief. 'The list goes on and on.

I am a small business owner in Pueblo, CO, I am constantly amazed to watch my fellow small business owners going out of business while cheering the policies of the Bush Administration. Once again, facts about how their business came to its demise are lost in cheering Bush for his marriage amendment.

To me, this corporate media has focused irrelevant issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc., and never on the huge and growing economic disparity between the corporate multinationals burgeoning fortunes and the struggle of small business in this country.

They stay with their racist, sectarian social issues and obscure the greater issues of foreign policy, the first amendment, etc.

Let me thank you again for your dedication to journalism and the focus of your energy.

 Sincerely,

William Ludwig

Campaign to send 100,000 postcards to the Whitehouse.

As part of its mission in responding to the needs of the Palestinian American Community in defending the Palestinian rights and to activate participation in the American political system, the Palestinian American Congress (PAC) has initiated a massive campaign to send 100,000 postcards to President Bush to urge the American Administration to support the ICJ ruling against the apartheid wall being constructed on the Palestinian land by the occupying forces of Israel.

The post card contains the following message:

Dear President Bush,

“The construction of the wall being built by Israel, the occupying Power, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem, and its associated régime, are contrary to international law”
(International Court of Justice ruling of July 2004).

As the leader of the free world, the most outspoken advocate for democracy, liberty and freedom, and for your vision of two states to be realized, we implore you Mr. President, to demand that Israel abide by the will of the international community, or risk losing America’s economic,
military and political aid.

Is there a McCarthy in the audience?

I see Linda Ronstadt, a singer, was ejected from the Aladdin Casino in the US for dedicating a song to Michael Moore and praising his Fahrenheit 9/11 film. Two points:
  • Would she have been ejected for praising Bush or dedicating a song to him?
  • Wasn't there some (outdated?) nonsense in the US about freedom of expression and/or tolerance?

In any case, the apparently extreme neocon/neofascist leanings of casino customers suggests that the casino should quickly change its name. After all the name Aladdiin could suggest covert sympathies with mysterious Middle Eastern figures, agencies or underground groups. Indeed,  Aladdin himself might even be planning to cast a vanishing spell on Bush at the next election. I suggest Michael Moore re-name the casino Stupid Losers or Stupid Ignorant Losers.

America is certainly sick.

Reactions on Sharon's call for French Jews to Immigrate to Occupied Palestine

The Israeli PM, Ariel Sharon, most likely supported by the US administration and the Zionist groups, wants to create a hysterical situation of 'Anti-Semitism' in France in particular and in Europe in general.

It is always important to remember what Theodor Hertzl, the father and founder of Zionism, said. He said, "Anti-Semitists are our (Zionists) best friends". And presently Sharon wants to show France to the world as an 'anti-Semitic' society in order to force French Jews (about 600,000) to immigrate to Occupied Palestine.

It is the same strategy that has been taking place over the last century, i.e., since Zionism was founded in Europe and is still supported by many Europeans and North Americans. This support to Israel is mostly based on the fact that Zionism represents the modern driving force of European colonialism and American imperialism.

Zogby Poll on Bush and Blair

Just as the pre-war intelligence report. the " Butler Report"- which criticized the reliability and "thinness" of the intelligence used to justify the war in Iraq was released --nearly three in four residents of the United Kingdom (73%) give British Prime Minister Tony Blair a negative performance rating. The telephone sample of 1000 adults throughout the United Kingdom was taken from June 24 through July 14, 2004. Overall results have a margin of sampling error of +/-3.2%.

When respondents were asked if the British Prime Minister deserves another term, less than two in five (35%) supported another term, while just over half (55%) say "it's time for someone new."

When respondents were asked their opinion of President George W. Bush, less than one in three (29%) responded favorably, while more than half (52%) responded unfavorably. Fourteen percent of respondents were unfamiliar with Bush and four percent were undecided.
