Israeli Elections: Occupation Continues, More Sadism, Savagery, and Slavery Against the Palestinian People

By Hassan El-Najjar

Al-Jazeerah, March 28, 2006

Today, Israelis go to elect their representatives to the parliament. The three main political parties that dominate the political arena are all Zionist and imperialistic-colonizers in their attitudes towards the Palestinian people. They only differ in the size of the Palestinian lands they want to annex to Israel and in the degree of the oppression and subjugation they want to exact on the Palestinian people.

In 1948, Israel was established according to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution Number 181, which was passed the year before. The resolution called for a two-state solution with clear and specific borders. However, Israeli Zionists did not abide by that resolution and launched a war against the Palestinian people that resulted in annexing major parts of the Palestinian Arab state, particularly in the Galilee, the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Auja border area.

The 1948 Israeli war of aggression on the Arab state of Palestine resulted in creating the Palestinian refugee problem, when Israeli Zionists refused the return of about 700,000 Palestinian refugees to their cities and villages at the end of the war.

The UNGA passed Resolution Number 194, in 1948, calling on the Israeli government to allow the refugees to return to their homes. The Israeli Zionist government did not respect this resolution, too. That’s why the UNGA reiterates its position by affirming Palestinian inalienable rights, as stated in these and later resolutions, every year.

The Arab state of Palestine, which was supposed to be created by the same Resolution 181 did not materialize. Instead, Palestine became divided into three territories, one occupied by Israel, another united with Jordan, and a third became under the Egyptian administrative control.

The Israeli Zionist appetite for annexing Palestinian lands and for controlling the Palestinian people has not stopped ever since.

In 1956, Israel took part in the imperialist British-French invasion of Egypt for the control of the Suez Canal. Israeli Zionists occupied the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula and the Palestinian territory of Gaza Strip. The brutal occupation lasted only four months as a result of the intervention of President Eizenhower, who insisted that Israelis withdraw from Gaza and Sinai. But before they did, they committed horrendous massacres and war crimes against the same people they just forced out of their lands.

On June 5, 1967, they did it again. They launched what they called “pre-emptive strike” against three of their Arab neighboring states: Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. The colonialist-imperialist war resulted in the occupation of Sinai and the Gaza Strip again, together with the West Bank of Jordan, and the Syrian Golan Heights.

In order to maintain their occupation of the Palestinian territories, Israeli Zionists exacted the worst forms of sadism, savagery, and slavery on them.

Palestinians have been humiliated on daily basis by Israeli occupation soldiers at checkpoints inside the Palestinian cities and villages and between them. House searches have been used to vandalize property and insult people inside their own homes. People have been assaulted in the streets for no reasons other than being there.

Palestinians have been killed, injured, arrested, beaten on daily basis. Palestinian lands have been confiscated to be used as settlements for Jewish immigrants. Palestinian population centers have been cut off from each other in a way that would prevent the establishment of a contagious and viable state.

The Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall has been built to annex not only Palestinian lands, but also underground water beneath them. The Wall also isolates East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, which makes it almost impossible to become the capital of the Palestinian state.

The Palestinian Authority has been forced to sign the Paris agreement, which has placed the Palestinian occupied territories officially under the Israeli economic control. The agreement requires that Palestinians cannot export or import anything without Israeli supervision. If they violate it, then they cannot trade with Israel and the link between the West Bank and Gaza will be cut off.

Even after the Palestinian resistance forced Sharon to take his settlers away and leave Gaza Strip, the Israeli government did that unilaterally, without coordination with the Palestinian Authority. Now, the entire Gaza Strip, with its 1.5 million people are living in one prison, surrounded by fences and Israeli forces from the north and the east, a metal wall in the south, and Israeli naval boats in the west.

Every possible measure has been taken by the Israelis and their supporters to subjugate and enslave the Palestinian people. The current measure against Gaza is subjugation by starvation. The Israeli government is withholding the taxes it collects from Palestinians, which are used to pay the salaries of government employees. The US and the EU, are also participating in the economic war to subjugate the Palestinian people. They announced their intention not to pay what they used to pay to the Palestinian Authority following the Hamas winning of the parliamentary election.

What does this mean?

It means simply that Israelis and their enablers in Europe and the US want the Palestinian people to continue living under the Israeli occupation. They want to show the Palestinian people that freedom means hunger and starvation. They want the Palestinian people to accept humiliation, sadistic measures, and brutality of the Israeli occupiers if they want to eat. In a word, they have to accept slavery under the Israeli rule, or risk continuous Israeli raids, assassinations, starvation, travel limitation.

However, occupation is a curse on the occupier before it gets to the occupied. Without continuous and unlimited help from the US and Europe, Israelis could not have been able to maintain their occupation of Palestine. But the US is sinking so heavily in debt ($8.3 trillion) that it is on the verge of an economic collapse itself, because of its occupation problem, too. Simply, this cannot be allowed to continue, if there are sane people left among the power elite in the US and Israel.

With money aside, occupation is a disgrace to the occupying nation. Actually, when one nation allows itself to occupy another, it not only robs it its resources but it robs itself of its humanity. Indeed, the Israelis and their supporters are the biggest losers in this conflict. They have lost their humanity. They behave like monsters, out of control.

Most important, invasions and occupation won't work.

It didn't work for Napoleon. It didn't work for Nazi Germany.

It didn't work for imperialist Japan.

It didn't work for Fascist Italy.

It didn't work for colonialist French in Algeria.

It won't work, because it's against humanity.

God has created humans as free, and He has always helped them regain their freedom.

Anybody out there learning ?
