. Moratinos Blaming Palestinians for the Intifada By Hassan El-Najjar Al-Jazeerah, December 4, 2004
It was not nice, prudent, or diplomatic from Moratinos to say that the Palestinian Intifada was a mistake. (Spanish Foreign Minister Moratinos Blames the Victim Palestinian People, Saying the Intifada Was 'a Mistake', Al-Jazeerah, December 4, 2004). As Nabil Sha'ath replied to him, it started as peaceful protests against the Israeli occupation but escalated into armed struggle only after Israeli occupation forces used live bullets and killed Palestinian protesters, even inside Al-Aqsa Mosque. At least, Moratinos could have also criticized the Israeli occupation brutality and the Israeli government for its decision to use force against the Palestinian peaceful demonstrators. But like most of Western politicians, he preferred to be on the safe side by blaming the victim, the Palestinian people, and by keeping quiet about the war crimes and the brutality the Israeli occupation government commits in Palestine. The Palestinian people have demonstrated that they will not accept to live as slaves under the Israeli occupation. They have also demonstrated that they will not accept any solution that does not include the Palestinian inalienable rights contained in UN resolutions since 1947. Politicians like Moratinos should be respectful of the sacrifices of the Palestinian people if they want to contribute to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. They only make fools of themselves when they blame the victim and praise the aggressor. |
