Sharon: The unchallenged leader of the world
By Hassan A. El-Najjar
The Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has proved that he is the unchallenged leader of the world. The US Presidential envoy, Anthony Zinni, has achieved a breakthrough yesterday. The Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat, declared an unconditional ceasefire. At the same time, the Arab summit in Beirut has adopted the Saudi peace initiative that recognizes Israel. Instead of responding in kind by accepting these peace offers from Palestinian and Arab leaders, Sharon launched his campaign to arrest the Palestinian President and to end the Palestinian Authority.
This is a demonstration of power. He has challenged the whole world. Nobody is accepting the challenge except the Palestinian people. He has demonstrated that Israel is the Superpower of the world, not the United States. There will be no more doubts about who is the leader and who is the follower in the world.
